Tour of Capel Manor College gardens (Enfield, UK)
Capel Manor is a college teaching gardening, horticulture, landscaping, animal care, saddlery and floristry in Enfield, just north of London (or more precisely: Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield, Middlesex EN1 4RQ).
In mid-April 2015 (tulip & flowering tree season!), we visited the beautiful Capel Manor College gardens & grounds, and here is a short video showing the highlights of our 2-3 hour tour.
I made this video for:
1.) Potential visitors: So people can see what Capel Manor is like and know roughly what to expect of their visit before making the trip out (although bear in mind that the plant displays will be different all the time due to the changeable nature of seasonal plants and due to the diligent staff constantly making new garden design displays).
2.) Alumni: it can be fun for old students and teachers / staff to reminisce so I thought this would be a fun video to see what the college looks like in April 2015
3.) Me: I wanted to to remember the day and also wanted practice video-making using a new technique - in making this I tried a new method of filming in a way that wasn't disruptive to the people I was with - no asking anyone to wait for me while I found the perfect shot, and I tried filming from the hip and hoping for the best, rather than seeing the whole day through a lens etc.. hence the shaky cam - sorry about that!

In this video you will see:
- The Entrance to the college
- Snapshots of most of the gardens, featuring lots of colourful tulips of many different species and also featuring primroses, pansies, greenhouses, apple tree blossoms, the remnants of the daffodils of the year and cherry tree blossoms
- Some animals including the wallabies, meerkats (including baby meerkats!), barn owl, koi fish, guinea pigs and rabbits (unfortunately all the other animals were not out on display when we visited.)

Apologies again for the shakey footage - I hope you enjoy the video despite this and hopefully you won't get motion sick :D

York Gate Garden. Yorkshire, England
My first video of York Gate was blocked in Germany so I have now put Kevin MacLeod’s Royalty Free Music to it in the hope that my followers and subscribers in Germany can view it.
The Spencer family, Sybil and her husband Frederick bought the property in1951 when their son, Robin was 17. It was at that time a farm, but they soon started to create a garden. When Frederick died 1963 it was Robin who went on to develop it into rooms that you see today with his mother’s knowledge of plants. Sadly Robin died in1982 at the age of 47. Sybil cherished the garden, adding to the plant collection. She died in 1994 and it was her wish it was to pass to the “Perennial” Gardener’s Royal Benevolent Society who now maintain this special garden. Hope you like it. CAPEL MANOR COLLEGE SAFELY USING THE PETROL LAWNMOWER DANIEL LEE REGENT’S PARK
The teacher Daniel Lee was undertaking a turf renovation practical with the level 2 horticulture and the landscape operative class.
The students were learning how to use the machinery in a safe manner, and why they use the individual machines and how this affects the quality of the lawn.
There is a variety of different confidence levels within the group and some were more used to using their machines than others, however the whole group attained a lot of new learning from the practical and increased their confidence levels as a result of taking part in their free hour practical.
This practical forms part of the ornamental turf unit, and the practical session is taught in conjunction with the classroom sessions at the Capel Manor Regents Park campus.

CAPEL MANOR COLLEGE - SAFELY USING THE PETROL LAWNMOWER - DANIEL LEE - REGENT’S PARK
Two of the earliest Budding machines sold went to Regent's Park Zoological Gardens in London and the Oxford Colleges.[3] In an agreement between John Ferrabee and Edwin Budding, dated 18 May 1830, Ferrabee paid the costs of development, obtained letters of patent and acquired rights to manufacture, sell and license other manufacturers in the production of lawn mowers. Budding realised that a similar device could be used to cut grass if the mechanism was mounted in a wheeled frame to make the blades rotate close to the lawn's surface. Budding went into partnership with a local engineer, John Ferrabee, and together they made mowers in a factory at Thrupp near Stroud.[4]
