Capela dos Ossos Igreja do Carmo Faro Algarve
The Capela dos Ossos behind the Igreja do Carmo in Faro on the Algarve in southern Portugal consists of the 1,250 bones and skulls of Carmelite monks dug up from the local church cemetery when the chapel was built in 1816, just after the end of the Napoleonic Wars, which had ravaged much of Portugal.

Igreja do Carmo Faro: The Igreja do Carmo is a beautiful church with golden interior but the 'Capela dos Ossos' (Bones Chapel) is the more special part of visiting this church. In the backyard of the church is this chapel which is decorated with human skulls and bones. The number of skeletons of monks was calculated to be about 5000.
