The Capilano River flows from north to south through the Coast Mountains on Vancouver's North Shore and empties into the Burrard Inlet. The river is one of the primary sources of drinking water for the residents of Greater Vancouver, and flows through the Capilano watershed. Great place to hike and to see the salmon run.

CAPILANO RIVER REGIONAL PARK | Exploring the Cleveland Dam, Capilano Canyon, and Salmon Hatchery!
Capilano River Regional Park in North Vancouver is one of Metro Vancouver’s oldest parks. The park boasts 26 km of walking trails, the incredible Capilano Canyon, the Cleveland Dam, the Capilano River, the Grandpa Capilano tree, and a salmon hatchery, among other highlights.
Capilano River Regional Park is popular for hiking, fishing, and even kayaking. It’s hard to call Capilano Park a hidden gem since it sees many visitors every year. But due to its proximity to the Grouse Grind and the Capilano Suspension Bridge, its beautiful trails are probably not explored as often as they should be.

Swim up the Capilano Salmon Ladder, North Vancouver, BC Coho Salmon
Swim Up a Salmon Ladder!
Coho salmon swim up the salmon ladder back to the gravel beds where they hatched.
The Capilano River in North Vancouver, British Columbia was dammed in 1954.
Cleveland Dam blocks Capilano Lake for hydro power and fresh drinking water. This blocked the spawning ground stream beds for the native salmon.
A fish ladder with a rising staircase of pools was constructed to assist the return of the salmon to the hatchery.

Capilano River Coho Salmon Indian Reserve Massacre North Vancouver British Columbia
Capilano Coho Salmon Indian Reserve Massacre in North Vancouver British Columbia September 2012. Not saying anything illegal was done here. But sometimes you should not do stuff just because you can, legally speaking. Oh and read this on Wiki about the Indian Band The Capilano Reserve is the site of major commercial and residential developments, mostly on the West Vancouver side of its area. These include the Park Royal Shopping Centre and associated apartment buildings, and a small office tower adjacent to the intersection of Taylor Way, and a large recreational vehicle park more or less beneath the northern end of the Lions Gate Bridge (the highway interchange for the bridge is also on reserve land). Foreshore properties along Vancouver Harbour leased from reserve lands include bulk terminals and other port facilities. Revenues from all these arrangements are part of band finances.

Fishway at Capilano Salmon Hatchery to show how salmon climb the staircase of water , 参观北温的卡皮拉诺鲑鱼养殖场
Visited Capilano Salmon Hatchery in North Vancouver, Canada on October, 12, 2013.
The hatchery was built under Cleveland Dam, the salmon fish ladder beside the dam along the smooth swim into farms, where salmon egg (Chinook) retrieval, fertilization and cultivation are done, so the fry grow up safely in the training pool. Hatched young salmon will eventually be put back in the river, back into the sea.

North Vancouver Salmon Hatchery - GoPro Family Video
A day trip to the Capilano River Hatchery in North Vancouver. The kids love watching the salmon from the glass viewing areas in the hatchery. During certain times of the year, you can watch the salmon jumping up the stream. Outside the hatchery there are a few easy hikes which are perfect for kids. You can also watch people fishing for salmon along the river. Nearby is the Cleveland Dam and water reservoir. Everything is free admission!
