CAPRI, ITALY BOAT TOUR-Featuring The Blue Grotto!
The island of Capri, Italy is a short 30 minute ferry ride from Sorrento. It's one of the most beautiful and famous islands in the world due to it's stunning topography-cliffs that fall into turquoise waters, its many grottoes (caves), its marinas filled with yachts, and of course, the famous Blue Grotto. It's also a great place to people watch and take in the spectacular views. We took a boat ride around the island and my favorites were the Green Grotto (7:56) and the Blue Grotto (9:14)!

Capri, Italy: Pricey Towns and Priceless Views
More info about travel to Capri: The Isle of Capri, a short boat ride from Sorrento or Naples, is well worth a visit. The main square of this cute and touristy shopping mecca has steep prices but the window shopping is free. Up the hill lies Anacapri, the island's second town, with fewer tourists, a little more character, and a passion for colorful Majolica tiles.

Here's the Capri video narrative:
Capri is a small Italian island in the Bay of Naples, about 5 kilometers from the mainland.
We visited on a day trip in April, arriving via a fast jet ferry from Sorrento and avoiding the peak summer season, when the island can be overrun with tourists.
Capri is also easy to reach by ferry from Naples.
We arrived at Capri’s main port, Marina Grande, which is on the north coast.
From here you can take boat trips, for example to the Blue Grotto, which is a flooded sea-cave, or you can take a boat to the south coast to see the Faraglioni Rocks.
However, with limited time we decided to make for Capri town, then on to to Anacapri and Monte Solaro.
To get from Marina Grande up to Capri town we took the funicular railway which connects the harbour to the Piazzetta, the town’s main square.
Capri’s two main centres, Capri town and its uphill rival Anacapri, are almost entirely given over to tourism and prices can be high.
Capri is a world-famous beauty spot and it’s also a summer favourite of holidaying VIPs.
The Piazzetta is full of fashionable bars and it’s well worth stopping for an espresso. You might even see one of those VIPs!
The square is dominated by a free-standing clock tower.
Note the tiled clock face.
Capri is well known for its maiolica tiles.
Here they can be seen forming a map of the island.
We boarded a crowded bus to Anacapri and explored the island’s second town.
Walking along Via Giuseppe Orlandi, we saw the Casa Rossa, a brightly coloured house built in the late 1800s by an American colonel. It’s now a museum.
Continuing along this road, we reached Piazza San Nicola and the Church of San Michele, built in Italian baroque style at the turn of the 18th century.
Built on an octagonal Greek cross plan, the church is famous for its maiolica floor decoration depicting the expulsion of Adam and Eve. It was completed in 1761.
For an impressive view of the entire floor, you can climb the spiral staircase to the organ loft and look out over the church from above.
More maiolica tiles can be seen nearby, decorating the benches in Piazza Armando Diaz.
The Monte Solaro chairlift is also in Anacapri, and it reaches the top of the 589 meters high mountain within minutes.
From the summit there are picturesque views over the island and across the Bay of Naples and the Gulf of Salerno.
There’s also a great view of the Faraglioni Rocks from here.
These three spurs of rock rise from the sea within meters of the coast and are one of the favourite destinations for boat tours of the island’s coast.
We hiked down from the summit back to Anacapri. The path is quite uneven in places but the walk is well worth it for the changing panoramas.
On the way down, you can see a series of small bronze plaques. Each represents a stop on the Via Crucis, or Way of the Cross.
We headed back to Marina Grande and caught the last ferry back to Sorrento, which left late afternoon.
You can see plenty of this beautiful island in a few hours, but don’t expect to fit everything in.
Next time, maybe we’ll get to the Blue Grotto!

Capri Boat Tour around whole Capri Island, Italy
If you're wondering what a private boat tour around Capri island is like, here's a video showing just that!
In May 2019, we got a 2 hour Capri boat tour on a gozzo boat with a company called Gianni's Boat tours which we found highly recommended on Tripadvisor & on Google reviews. (Not gifted, Not sponsored). Our tour guide was Juan Paolo (if I remember his name correctly), and you can hear some highlights of his commentary and explanations about the island included in this video.
Sights you will see on this Capri Boat Tour:
- View of whole of Capri island, as seen from Monte San Costanzo, on mainland Italy (in Massa Lubrense on the Sorrentine peninsula). You can see our beautiful hike / walk on Monte San Costanzo on my video here:
- Marina Grande, Capri (on the central North of the island)
- Sailing across from the Capri side to the Anacapri side of the island
- Our tour inside the famous Blue Grotto / Grotta Azzurra, Italia, found on the North West of the island, and which we entered by switching to a small rowboat: You can see a more focused video of our tour in the Blue Grotto here:
- Punta Carena Lighthouse on the South West tip of the island
- The Green Grotto / Grotta Verde / The Green Cave, on the south side of the island
- Punta di Mulo on the south side of the island, with a little religious saint marking there.

Capri Bus Ride - Full Trip From Anacapri to Marina Grande
This is the amazing bus journey from Anacapri to the Marina Grande on the island of Capri in Italy, filmed from just behind the driver. These small buses only have a handful of seats and are crammed to capacity with people standing. It it heavy going, but it's something I would recommend to anybody to do at least once if they visit this beautiful island. Well worth €1.80 euro ! :)

Top things to do in Capri Italy from riding the Monte Solaro Chairlift in Anacapri to shopping in Via Camerelle and renting a scooter and visiting the Saracen Tower Beach, Monte Solaro, Via Vittorio Emanuele. Cala Ventroso Beach (or viewing it from the top of Anacapri eating at Piazza Umberto and so much more. Visiting the Blue Grotto is also up there on the list but we unfortunately didn’t have time. It begins on the Passetiello Trail high up on Monte Solaro with a fantastic view of the east side of island. For thousands of years, the Phoenician Steps and this trail were the only way for the inhabitants of the island to read the other side. Before the steps, this trail was it. Let's go for a walk!

PERFECT DAY TRIP TO CAPRI! (Best way to see Capri and the Blue Grotto)

During our visit to Naples, we planned a day trip to Capri, Italy. And we are so glad we did!
This was one of our favorite travel moments of our year-long round the world trip!
We rented a vespa and drove around the entire island, exploring both Capri and Anacapri. Exploring the island by scooter is THE BEST way to travel Capri, in our opinion.
Cruising on winding streets overlooking the blue sea with wind blowing through your hair is so exhilarating!
We also went inside the famous Blue Grotto, ate lunch in Anacapri, and went on an incredible boat tour of Capri.
In this video, we share our incredible experience and give out tips to spend the perfect day in Capri. Consider this your Capri travel guide for an unforgettable experience!
We highly recommend you visit Capri if you’re planning a trip to Italy, especially if you’ll be near Naples or the Amalfi Coast.

after staying a few nights in Positano we were sad to leave but excited to stay in Sorrento. From sorrento we did day trips to Amalfi, Isle Of CAPRI and Positano.
We loved Positano so much, we went back there on our way home from Amalfi and it was awesome cause we found a beautiful bar while walking to the beach which had one of the BEST VIEWS (well everywhere along Amalfi coast was gorgeous!)
