Wine column: Tasting 3 wines at Carbrea Winery on Hornby Island.
Carbrea Vineyard and Winery is the Comox Valley's oldest winery, with plantings started in 2002 and a Silver Medal for its Pinot Noir at the 2006 Northwest Wine Summit in Oregon.
I interviewed owner and winemaker Stephen Bishop in early June 2013, not long after the BC Tied House legislation had been changed, allowing the Bishops to serve their wine at their own restaurant at Sea Breeze Lodge.
NOTE: My apologies for the sound quality - faulty mic cord not noticed until long after the interview. Note also that the correct URL for Carbrea is CarbreaVineyard.com (not Carbrea.ca as listed in the closing credits). We loved what the Bishops, with Chef Vanessa Rundell, are doing at Sea Breeze with local food and wine. If you're visiting Hornby Island in 2013 Sea Breeze is offering EatDrinkVancouverIsland.tv viewers a 10% dining discount via this code: HPMSeaBreeze2013.
At EatDrinkMEDIA.ca our focus is on telling the good food, local food story in the greater Vancouver Island region.

Rocky Creek Winery, Cowichan Valley. BC
@RockyCreekWines #Vancouver Island wineries So so sorry we arrived so late to your winery BUT so so happy we made it! Linda, you and Mark rule... passion, guts, talent, personality galore and great wines! Anyone heading out to Vancouver Island be sure to make a stop to Cowichan Bay and visit the winery Rocky Creek. Their Pinot Grigio rocks, the owners are crazy charismatic, friendly, down to earth and eager to share their story... And it is QUITE the story! Mark, is the winemaker, 3rd generation with over 20 years experience and Linda formerly a technologist working with budgets, business plans and pipeline projects... that was in her former life! They began their gravity fed winery in their house in the basement and the rest is history! What a couple, what a story!
