[Sky Strider] Carey Island | Selangor | Malaysia
The Carey Island is an island in Selangor, Malaysia. It is a huge island separated from the Selangor coast by the Langat River, connected by two bridges from Chodoi and Teluk Panglima Garang near Banting and a bridge from Pulau Indah and Pulau Carey.
Carey Island was named after Edward Valentine John Carey, an Englishman planter in Malaya has acquired an island from the Sultan Sir Alaeddin Sulaiman Shah of Selangor to start plantations.
It is famous for its seafood such as crabs, prawns, and various fishes. The island has palm oil plantations owned by Sime Darby Plantations.

The Annual Rituals Of The Mah Meri Tribe : Carey Island, Malaysia
A Tribal Ritual Lives On.
This wonderful video takes you to the Carey Island tribal settlement of the indigenous group called Mah Meri, one of the 18 indigenous tribes of Peninsular Malaysia. This annual ritual commenced the evening before at their home altars where the tribe seek an audience with their loved ones who have passed on. The next morning is when the tribe appease the spirits of the sea in the Puja Pantai or Puja Moyang festival. Puja means to praise, Patai means the beach, while Moyang means ancestors. Legend has it that the spirit of the sea saved their ancestors during a storm near Tanjung Rhu. The ritual to appease the spirit of the sea and their ancestors is guided by trance-fixed shamans and the villagers await a complete low tide to be able to reach the age-old grand altar left standing in the sea. Here, they do their offerings and prayers accompanied by music, dancing and songs and later the food is shared amongst the villagers. This annual festival attracts locals and foreigners for its tribal cultural heritage. The villagers’ costumes and the trance-led performance seems out of this modern world that even many Malaysians have not witnessed first-hand before.
Watch out for an extended episode of this ritual on this channel!

Amverton Cove, Pulau Carey - Best weekend getaway in the Klang Valley?
Well, it's probably not the best place for several reasons. There's no beach, no five-star dining, no five-star room, what have you. But if you feel like taking your family to a short weekend getaway that's under an hour away from most Klang Valley areas, then there's several reasons why Amverton Cove is perfect.
Kids and adults have so much to do there! Parents get a nice quiet atmosphere, there's lots of nature and greenery, petting zoo, playground, huge pool, water sports... I could go on, but this is not a paid review - although it might seem like one (I'm just trying new things).
All in, this has so far been our most favourite weekend destination. The drive's just like 40 mins from our place too.

The Mythical Mah Meri Ritual On Carey Island Malaysia
At first glance you would think this video is about some Papau New Guinee tribe. In fact it is right here in Malaysia, just off the coast of Klang on Carey Island, along the Straits of Malacca. The Mah Meri is amongst the 18 indigenous tribes in Peninsular Malaysia and they now reside in a settlement on the island. This video is an extended version of the one found in this channel and it shows the entire ceremonial proceedings of appeasing the spirits and ancestors (Puja Moyang and Puja Pantai) of a folk legend about their ancestors being saved by the spirits of the sea. The ritual starts the night before with prayers at their ancestors altar in their homes. The next day the villagers set upon a ritual of dance, music and prayers led by shamans and await the low tide before they proceed to the grand altar left standing on the far shores. Here the shamans perform prayers and offerings to their ancestors and the sea spirits. At the end of the rituals the villagers share their food amongst themselves. This tribal ritual attracts both locals and foreigners every year. Manaweblife is honoured to be there to witness the event and glad to put all these images on record for all to see. There seems to be more interest from foreigners than Malaysians when it comes to traditional tribal rituals like this.
Therefore, Manaweblife urges you to share, and like, this video amongst fellow Malaysians, and subscribe for more exciting videos in this channel ! May the tribal ritual live on!

Carey Island or Pulau Carey doesn't feel like an island because it is so close to the mainland. This island which is part of Selangor is located south of Port Klang and is quite near to Small Township like Telok Panglima Garang, Jenjarom and Banting. Almost half the island is bordered by Langat River while the remaining part is bordered by the Strait of Malacca.

Beautiful Trip to Sky Mirror in Kuala Selangor, Malaysia. [in clear 4k/ HD1080 ]
During my trip to Malaysia, I got a chance to visit Sky Mirror in Kuala Selangor, Malaysia. Why is called Sky Mirror? Well, its named after its mirror-like reflection of the sky is a mysterious island that will only emerge for several days every month: During the 1st and 15th of a lunar month, as well as 4 days before or after these dates.
It is also dubbed the Salar de Uyuni of Malaysia, after similar natural wonder in Bolivia.
I have to say the whole trip to Sky Mirror is worth it by getting up wee dawn of the day, 1+ hrs of driving(more/less depending on where you are driving from), and a 45mins of boat ride to get there.
If you are visiting Malaysia, I would recommend this place. Just make sure you check the lunar calendar on which date you can go. Best is to contact a tour guide over there to find out more details about this trip.
Also, in Sky Mirror, you'll see a lot of baby Clams, sea clams, and other marines life. On the way out to the Sky Mirror, you'll be also seeing lots of birds like Milky Storks, eagles, monkeys, etc.
ps: Be prepared for a lot of tourists posing for their best pose to capture the reflection of the sky.
TIPS: Go early of the day if possible. And also, you can go a little farther from the crowd to get the best shot of this place.
Happy Traveling!!

Mah Meri - Hari Moyang Ritual at Carey Island ( 1 )
Mah Meri – Hari Moyang Ritual (‘Ancestor Day’) at Carey Island
19 & 20 March 2015
Members of the Mah Meri tribe of Malaysia have just completed their annual ancestor-worship ceremony, an elaborate ritual involving dancers with intricately-carved masks who perform the historic Main Jo-oh dance for the annual Hari Moyang festival in Pulau Carey. From a tourism point of view the island’s main attraction is the Mah Meri community whose craftsmen are famous for their highly prized wooden carvings. The exact date is chosen by a council of elders, who are said to be given the appointed day when visited in dreams by the spirits of their ancestors.
This tribe is concentrated around Kampung Sungei Bumbun on Carey Island. Speaking a language with Mon-Khmer roots, the Mah Meri (meaning forest people) live in modest wooden houses and try to hang on to their traditional culture through practices like carving wooden spirits, traditional dances and music.
On the day of Hari Moyang (‘Ancestor Day’), each village gathers around a Spirit House, which is filled with flowers, incenses and food, to pay homage to their forefathers. The mixture is burned, the smell of which is believed to alert the ancestral spirits to the gift. The men don expressive masks carved from wood, which are similar to those made by Polynesian tribes, and wear a costume made of woven pandan leaves. The women dress in skirts, sashes and origami-like tiaras also made of pandan leaves and they make their traditional dress themselves. The dancers honour the spirits of their forefathers before going before the village shaman to receive their blessing.
