I’ve had the pleasure of riding all over the world. I’ve been to China, Argentina, Europe, and all over North America. While there are some amazing destinations out there, none of them compare to my home of Williams Lake and the Cariboo. Its not only the most unique riding offering everything from big mountain to epic XC, but the mountain bike culture here is amazing. People are so eager to share the goods, and welcome people with open arms. I have yet to come across anything like it. Ride the Cariboo!

The Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Region spans across the province from the Pacific Ocean to the Cariboo and Columbia mountains to the east. Craggy peaks and snow-capped mountains accompany vast plateaus and luscious valleys. The landscape seamlessly flows from arid dessert to thick forests and rolling grasslands, creating diverse micro-climates with unique flowers, wildlife and aquamarine fjords.
The Cariboo Chilcotin region has an extremely small population with most locals residing in the districts of Williams Lake, 100 Mile House and Quesnel. The sparse population and limited amount of roads allows wildlife to flourish. You’ll witness infamous herds of mustang horses sharing a habitat with other wildlife such as caribou, bears, bald eagles, hawks, moose and big horn sheep.

Welcome to the Wells Barkerville Mountain Trails. Our area has one of the most incredible trail networks in the province of British Columbia. We have hundreds of kilometers of trails, through a variety of diverse ecosystems. From gentle boardwalk trails through quiet wetlands to several-day-long epic mountain expeditions through wild, rugged terrain, the Wells Barkerville Trails network offers access to some of the most beautiful country you will find anywhere.
Some of these trails were constructed before British Columbia was a province -- history is infused in our trails. You can find evidence of the great Cariboo Gold Rush throughout the area, yet because of the lack of development, you're still able to experience much of the landscape in the same condition it was in when the first prospectors came.
Our trails experiences are limitless, but don't forget to leave some time to experience the colourful arts community of Wells or the amazing 1860's Gold Town of Barkerville Historic Town. Also nearby is Bowron Lake Provincial Park, one of the top canoeing circuits on the planet. Whatever your schedule, you're sure to have a unique and thoroughly memorable experience.
The Rudy Johnson Bridge replaces the Soda Creek Ferry on the Fraser in 1968
When Rudy Johnson's wife nearly drowned crossing the Fraser River on the Soda Creek Ferry, Johnson decided he needed to build a bridge.
Rudy located a bridge in Kenai Alaska, dismantled it into 3000 pieces and paid to have it transported to the building site near Soda Creek.
As there was not enough room on the river edge to build the bridge using traditional methods, Johnson borrowed techniques from loggers and assembled a 300 foot truss to span over the Fraser River. For 10 days half the bridge hung over the river on skyline cables.
It is the only private toll bridge the Fraser has ever known. Completed in 1968, the government incorporated it into the provincial highway system in 1978 and it is still used today as an access point to the West Fraser Road north to Quesnel from Soda Creek Road out of Williams Lake or off of Highway 97 North.

B.C. Rivers Day 2008 in Prince George
Children could hook a live fish during B.C. Rivers Day held Sept. 28 in Prince George at Fort George Park.
There was also a First Nations elders story telling area to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Simon Fraser's voyage down the Fraser River.
The eighth annual celebration was held from noon to 5 p.m. and featured performers at the Kiwanis Bowl, who include Legs N Wheels from Quesnel, who have just returned from recording in Nashville, Lakeside Ramblers, a bluegrass group from Cluculz Lake, and the First Nations showcase featuring Bradford Star.
BC Rivers Day is a part of the provincial event held the last Sunday of September. It offers people an opportunity to celebrate BC's spectacular river heritage and enables cross-cultural presentation of the very groups that made up the beginnings of our city.
