Alaska Tour - Carcross & Caribou Crossing - Stop #7
We headed back into the Yukon Territory of Canada towards Whitehorse, stopping in Carcross and then Caribou Crossing.
In Carcross we had a nice breakfast and shopping, but the real fun started at Caribou Crossing. Here we had a chicken lunch, followed by a tour of their museum. After that, Jeannie and I were treated to a dog sled ride! Man, do those dogs love to run, and they are fast!!

The dogs of Caribou Crossing Trading Post
Day trip from Skagway, Alaska off the Norwegian Cruise Line to the Caribou Crossing Trading Post in the Yukon Territory of Canada. So much barking and excitement from the dogs, almost as if to say pick me to pull the cart that also trains them for winter sled pulling.

Alaska 2013 - sled dog ride, Caribou Crossing, Yukon, Canada
My sister and I get a ride in a two-person cart with five sled dogs at the Caribou Crossing, Yukon Territory. It was a bit warm for the dogs that day - they like it around freezing - but they were kept cool with sprinklers and mud puddles, plus they were given at least a half hour break between runs. Dogs get a day off between days in the hitch. This was a VERY bumpy ride so I hope the video isn't too crazy!

Dog Sledding (Dog Cart) during Alaska Cruise on Skagway to Yukon Tour
I am unsure if this is animal cruelty or sport as they say. These dogs are not huge dogs. They may be weighing around 60-70lbs? They were pulling the heavy cart with 7 humans. The people at this place kept adding as many dogs as needed to pull those people. It seemed heavy for them. On ice maybe it’s different but on regular land it seemed tough on them. This was part of our tour at Caribou Crossing. We did not take the ride.
