Carlisle Bay BARBADOS CRUISE PORT
Carlisle Bay BARBADOS CRUISE PORT
Carlisle Bay is a small natural harbor located in the southwest region of Barbados. The island nation's capital, Bridgetown, is situated on this bay, which has been turned into a marine park. Carlisle Bay's marine park is a popular spot on the island for scuba diving. Many relics, like anchors and cannonballs, from ships can be found on the ocean floor in Carlisle Bay.
The bay takes its name from Barbados' second Lord Proprietor, James Hay, 1st Earl of Carlisle. Lord Carlisle claimed the island[1] through Royal grant on behalf of King Charles I of England in 1627.
Carlisle Bay is home to one of Barbados historic lighthouses the Needham's Point Lighthouse.
During the Second World War a British ship, the Cornwallis, was torpedoed by a German U-Boat, at this location.

BARBADOS: Cruise Day on Carlisle Bay
Beautiful Barbados! One of the many stops we made on our 7 day Eastern Caribbean cruise. A quick highlight video of us spending one day in Barbados. We visited one of the most beautiful beaches known to mankind: Pebble Beach. Carlisle Bay is super close to Bridgetown and the cruise port. Day 6 aboard Adventure of the Seas in Barbados (Carlisle Bay) Bridgetown
Our sixth day aboard the Adventure of the Seas was in Barbados. We traveled to Carlisle Bay by taxi from Bridgetown. The beach at Carlisle Bay was very nice and picture perfect with the aqua blue water. The snorkeling was good as you got out from the shore as well. We did not make it out to the wrecks due to coming in contact with the rope while swimming out that gave me a reaction. This is also why there is not much footage from the end of this day.

Carlisle Bay (Barbados 2019)
My favourite beach in Barbados! Best to stay at the Boatyard, have some Pina coladas or rum punch at happy hour, eat some coconut prawns or fish platter, then go for a snorkel to swim with turtles and rays. Lovely music, lots of helpful staff and beautiful clear, warm water.
Bridgetown Barbados town guide
This is a guide to Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados. It is where the ships dock, it has three bus terminals and free public beaches at Carlisle Bay. There is not much to see in the town if you want to shop you might go north to Holetown, see our other film. If you want a beach where it is quiet, you might try Mullins north or Rockley south.
Here on Doris Visits, is where you will find great advice on so many cruise destination ports, because we have recently been there, got the bus, done the tour, and filmed it.

Boatyard Barbados TRIP REPORT awesome facilities and beach | HENRY TENBY
Boatyard Barbados is situated on Carlisle Bay just a few minute bus ride from city centre Bridgetown. The beach at Boatyard and paid admission covers use of the facilities including beach loungers, sun umbrellas, on site game and restaurant facilities, and even a snorkel tour to see the turtles at the snorkel sites in Carlisle Bay. We love spending the day at Boatyard and highly recommend a visit. It is very good value, and the staff are very friendly and do their best to make sure everyone has a super day.

Harbour Lights, Carlisle Bay Beach, Barbados April 2018
A day at Carlisle Bay Beach in front of Harbour Lights restaurant and bar during a Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas port day in Bridgetown. April 2018
This beach was great for snorkeling. We use this mask, snorkel, and short fins from Amazon. They work great and are pretty inexpensive! Here is the link to the snorkel gear and flippers.
We also love this dry bag! It’s perfect for snorkeling and beach days. We chose yellow so that it would be safer when we snorkel in the water. It keeps our stuff dry and it floats next to us! Here is the link:
This Odrvm Action Camera was a great find! It’s inexpensive, takes beautiful pictures, and comes with a water proof case to take awesome snorkel and water pictures. Here is the link:

This beach is perfect for a day of sun and fun. We booked this excursion while on the Caribbean Princess cruise ship on the 14 day Caribbean Circle cruise. We went snorkeling and swam with the turtles. Wife got a great tan. A must do when in Barbados
Carlisle Bay - Barbados

Carlisle Bay in Bridgetown, Barbados
Carlisle Bay is a small natural harbour located in the southwest region of Barbados.
Lord Carlisle claimed the island through Royal grant on behalf of King Charles I of England in 1627.
Carlisle Bay is home to one of Barbados historic lighthouses the Needham's Point Lighthouse.
During the Second World War a British ship, the Cornwallis, was torpedoed by a German U-Boat, at this location.
Carlisle Bay is an appealing, tranquil bay, with one of the largest beaches on the island and sparkling calm, shallow waters. Home to the ‘Boatyard’, many cruise ship passengers can spend the entire day here. Old or young, there is something for all ages at Carlisle Bay - exercising, jogging, swimming, snorkelling, body or 'boogie' boarding, eating, drinking, or simply relaxing in a beach chair watching the yachts and other small vessels anchored in the bay as they gently roll from side to side on the sea. With car parking facilities, good access for visitors with mobility difficulties, toilets, showers and changing rooms, and a lifeguard on duty, you will not want to leave Carlisle Bay in Barbados.
Carlisle Bay in Barbados has also been developed into a very popular and oft frequented underwater marine park. It is especially well known in Barbados for its scuba diving opportunities, with no less than six shipwrecks in close proximity: Berwind, a 70ft long First World War French tug boat sunk by her own crew in 1919; Ce-trek, a derelict cement boat that was sunk in 1986; Eillon, a 110ft former drug boat freighter that was sunk in 1996 as part of the marine park; Bajan Queen, Barbados' first tug boat when Bridgetown harbour was built in the 1960s, was sunk in 2002; Cornwallis, a Canadian freighter sunk by German u-boat torpedo during the Second World War; and a naval landing barge originally found in Carlisle Bay in Barbados. Beginner to expert divers will not be disappointed in their search for hidden underwater treasures if they visit Carlisle Bay in Barbados.
The sunken vessels are the source of various relics and ship paraphernalia, and anchors, pylons, bottles, cannons and cannon balls mark out a trail from one ship to another. The wrecks also provide habitats for a proliferation of sea life, including sea horses, rays, barracudas, octopus, reef squid, mackerel, moray eel and frog fish, as well as the more unusual mantis shrimps, lettuce slugs, and pencil stars.
Featuring shallow entry and mild waves, the Carlisle Bay is an excellent place to go for a calm swim. Surrounded by local shops and restaurants, the beach is immediately accessible from the main road. Pristine sand is perfect for sunbathers.
Located in Bridgetown, Carlisle Bay is on the South West coast of Barbados. You should consider dropping by even if you are not staying particularly close by. You may notice that beaches throughout Barbados tend to be pretty quiet, but Carlisle Bay is a little different.
The beach is accessible for pedestrians and vehicles and is located directly off of Highway 7. Taxis and a nearby bus terminal allows easy access for those cruise passengers.
Carlisle Bay's beach area enjoys the calm waters of the bay and the close proximity to the capital city. Tropical foliage dots the landscape, though there is little shade to be had when compared to other beaches.
There is also a concession stand available.
For your convenience, restrooms are available at Carlisle Bay. You'll appreciate that showers are available, so you don't have to go back to your hotel sandy. The water here is clear and good for snorkeling, so bring your equipment if you want to see the underwater world.
Carlisle Bay including its availability of conveniences can be located inside a major tourist area. This means that if you think these amenities are a deciding factor, it'll be a good motivator to get there early in the day before the crowds or perhaps even going to a more secluded beach away from the major areas. Otherwise, you might lose the chance to fully use all those comforts that the beach has for its guests.
