Carlisle United Kingdom Castle and Cathedral
In this video I go back in time a bit to view my family history through the eyes of my ancestors. I have worked on my genealogy for years and I have posted my work at:
This journey took us to Carlisle United Kingdom, also known as Cumbria or Cumberland.
In this video I show Carlisle Castle via drone and on the ground. I also take you to Carlisle Cathedral, and down the underneath walkway between the Castle and the Cathedral where there is a cursing stone.
This is a unique tour of Carlisle. Learn about the border reveirs and the conflicting history that came together to form a union between Lords and Robbers.

Exploring Carlisle Castle + Road Trip From Carlisle to Glasgow
After brunch at the wonderful Foxes Café in Carlisle, it's onto Carlisle Castle which is the number one tourist attraction here in Carlisle. You can pay to get into just the castle or an additional fee on top of the castle admission to visit the Military Museum too. If you're an English Heritage member it's free.
We enjoyed pretending we were in Game of Thrones wandering around The Keep before heading around the top of the castle to take in the view of the rest of Carlisle. After that, it was time to take a drive just short of two hours over the border into Glasgow, Scotland.
We planned to have dinner at the Drygate Brewery but sadly, there seemed to be another event on so there was no parking. In hignsight it was probably a good thing, we were really hungry and if it was busy we'd have probably had to wait a long time for food so instead we did the budget and basic thing of going to Morrisons for the most random of dinners before heading back to the hotel ready for a full day of exploring tomorrow!

GREAT BRITAIN: CARLISLE (Cumbria, UK)
GREAT BRITAIN: CARLISLE (Cumbria, UK)
Filmed in February 2018
The City of Carlisle is a local government district of Cumbria, England, with the status of a city and non-metropolitan district. It is named after its largest settlement, Carlisle, aka Carlizzle, but covers a far larger area which includes the towns of Brampton and Longtown, as well as outlying villages including Dalston, Scotby and Wetheral. The city has a population of 107,524 and an area of 1,039.97 square kilometres (402 sq mi), making it the largest city in England by area (although the majority of its territory is not urbanised, but rural).
The current city boundaries were set as part of the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972, and cover an amalgamation of two former local government districts—the City and County Borough of Carlisle and the Border Rural District of Cumberland. The City of Carlisle shares a border with Scotland (to the north), and is bounded on the southwest by the borough of Allerdale, and on the south by the district of Eden. The county of Northumberland is to the east.
Although the present boundaries date to the 20th century, the city traces its origins to a 1st-century Roman outpost associated with Hadrian's Wall. The Brythonic settlement that expanded from this outpost was destroyed by the Danes in 875. Thereafter the region formed part of the Southern Uplands of Scotland, until colonised under King William II of England in 1092. William II built Carlisle Castle, which houses a military museum. Carlisle Cathedral, founded in the 12th century, is one of the smallest in England.
A border city, and the second most northerly city in England, Carlisle predominantly spans the flood plain of the River Eden. Commercially, it is linked to the rest of England via the M6 motorway, and to the Scottish Lowlands via the A74(M) and M74 motorways.
Luguvalium).
