A trip to Zichron Yaakov, Israel
Zichron Yaakov - Center of Israel's Wine and Art Country
Zichron Yaakov is one of the first settlements in Israel. Located upon Mount Carmel, with magnificent views across the Coastal Plain to the Mediterranean, the town was founded in 1882 by 100 Jewish pioneers, returning to their Biblical homeland from Romania. Today, the town is a big tourist center -- its quaint main shopping street is lined with cafes which sit alongside historic buildings, whilst the town is also famous for the Carmel Winery, one of Israel's top vineyards which is located here.
il town, offering breathtaking views across Israel's Mediterreanean Coastand beyond. Zichron's main street, known as Midrahov, is now a pedestrianised zone lined with cafes and boutique artistic stores. Being the original street of the settlement, many of the houses are of great historic value and plaques outside tell the story of many. At the end of the street is the First Aliyah Museumwhich tells the fascinating story of the pioneers from Europe who established this town over a hundred years ago.
Carmel Winery Israel by Morgan Rees
Carmel Winery is the historic winery of Israel. It was founded in 1882. Carmel produces 15 million bottles a year, including wines of every style and at every price point. Carmel wines are Kosher and are suitable for consumption by orthodox Jews, Vegans and Vegetarians.
Zichron Yaakov - Israel's Wine Pioneer
In 1882, the first commercial winery in Israel in about two thousand years was established in the town of Zichron Yaakov, by a group of some 200 Jewish family from Romania. Today, the Carmel vineyards produce award-winning wines which rival the world's best labels. Newly discovered historical records from the winery's early days tell the tale of how a European-style enterprise survived in pre-state Palestine despite the Ottoman empire's rampant corruption and difficult living conditions.
