Platinum Luxury Auctions: Emerald Hills | Charlottesville, VA
REPRODUCTION COST OF $20 MILLION. NOW SELLING AT OR ABOVE ONLY $5 MILLION! Built over the course of four years, Emerald Hills is situated on 112 acres just outside of Charlottesville, Virginia. Overlooking hardwood forests, a private lake, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, this estate is a stunning example of Neoclassical architecture in the style of Jefferson’s Monticello, which is just 15 minutes south of the Property. The layout of the home, with its main structure connected to northern and southern dependencies by a series of curved hyphens, was modeled on another American President’s residence: Mount Vernon, the estate of George Washington. Interior details from the current White House have been reproduced through the home, and include touches in the dining room and the western colonnade, which mimics the south facade of the White House overlooking the Rose Garden.
At the end of a mile-long private drive accessed via a stately wrought-iron gate, the Property welcomes with a two-story portico supported by Ionic columns. Lush, manicured grounds surround the estate, and include 1,000 dogwoods, redbuds and crape myrtle trees in addition to formal gardens, fountains and a 100-ft long soapstone reflecting pool. A lake, two ponds, a stream, and several brooks with springs are also on the Property. Set apart from the manicured grounds is a vegetable garden modeled on Thomas Jefferson’s with four 100-ft x 8-ft raised beds connected by Shenandoah brownstone walkways, and a home orchard of more than 100 trees (including peach, cherry, nectarine, plum and apple) complements the savory plantings.
In addition to the main residence, the Property has several outbuildings: a Carriage House (with 2,000 sf of living space and 2,700 sf devoted to housing up to 10 vehicles), Garden House, and a log cabin add additional living space from which to relax and enjoy the grace and charm of Emerald Hills.
Driving Route 53 West to Route 20, Charlottesville, Virginia: November 3, 2013
A drive along Virginia's Route 53 West, past the entrance to Jefferson's Monticello, Ash Lawn, and Michie Tavern, ending at the intersection with Route 20 on a beautiful Fall afternoon.
Pregnancy is HARD!
Today we went apple picking at Carter's Mountain Orchard in Charlottesville, VA! Which is a super fun thing to do in the Fall! It is a pretty massive farm up near UVA, and they have rows on rows of apple and peach trees! They stay pretty busy in the Fall, so make sure to go on a weekday if possible! Getting up and down the mountain is hard, but if you are pregnant it is really hard! Very steep hills make for a good workout, pregnant or not! They have a Bold Rock brewery in the basement of the main building, and all sorts of fun souvenirs upstairs. They also make these really good apple cider doughnuts! If you are in that area of the state or close by, check them out!

Ridge State Trout Hatchery - Berkeley Springs, West Virginia- by Dan Gritsko
One of my favorite places to visit when traveling through Berkeley Springs West Virginia, is make a stop at the Ridge State Fish Hatchery. You can see trout of various sizes including: fingerlings, larger ones, those about a foot long, and breeder trout pictured here. These two ladies love fishing, and it was great to take a walk around the pools on a pretty day. Come have a look when you are in the area, camping at Cacapon State Park, or just want to enjoy this cool place.
I've been a big fan of trout growing up with my Dad and Grandfather who were both trout fisherman. Dad taught me how to trout fish in and around Buffalo, New York. My Grandfather, known as 'Granddaddy' - took me as a youngster in the streams around Bedford, PA. Although I'm often too busy to do it, one of my favorite things to do is to trout fish.

Real Estate III Feature Neighborhood - Mountain Valley Farm (Charlottesville, VA)
- Real Estate III TV Featured Neighborhood - Mountain Valley Farm
In 1972, Frank Kessler and business partner Joe Wright founded Real Estate III, the most innovative and progressive real estate company to enter the Virginia marketplace. Frank became sole owner of the company in 1983 and proceeded to build it into the largest real estate firm in Central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley, with over 200 agents and annual sales in excess of $600 million. Frank was a founding father of the Albemarle County Architectural Review Board, which was created to promote and insure orderly and attractive residential and commercial development in the area. He was completely dedicated in his philosophy and in all his deliberations to think of his community and its inhabitants first. Frank created a real estate company whose ethics and client devotion were at the highest level possible. And that is Real Estate III.
In April, 2010, Real Estate III announced that it would franchise with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate LLC. This affiliation allows Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate's network to expand into the Commonwealth, and increases their franchise numbers to more than 110 offices and 4,600 sales associates in 14 states.
We are the largest and most productive real estate firm in central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley. We sell more property than any of our numerous competitors.
