Casa Milà (La Pedrera) - Barcelona ✔
➤“Casa Milà, popularly known as La Pedrera, meaning the 'The Quarry', is a modernist building in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It was the last civil work designed by architect Antoni Gaudí, and was built from 1906 to 1912.
The building was commissioned in 1906 by businessman Pere Milà i Camps and his wife Roser Segimon i Artells. At the time, it was controversial because of the undulating stone facade and twisting wrought iron balconies and windows designed by Josep Maria Jujol. Structural innovations include a self-supporting stone front and columns, and floors free of load bearing walls. Also innovative is the underground garage.
In 1984 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Currently, it is the headquarters of the Catalunya-La Pedrera Foundation, which manages the exhibitions, activities and public visits at Casa Milà.”

A masterpiece of nature

La Pedrera or Casa Mila in Barcelona by Antoni Gaudi
One of the more memorable buildings in Barcelona, Casa Mila shows the genius of it's architect, Antoni Gaudi. I bought the visual guide to the building and will no doubt enjoy delving into the finer details like hot water radiators and heaters in each apartment. Remember, this was built a hundred years ago. I neglected many features of this building in this short video. Have fun touring the building on your next visit.

Casa Milà by Gaudi in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain
Casa Milà, also know as La Pedrera, is another great building created by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí at the beginning of the 20th century. You can visit inside to enjoy exhibits about his work, and visit the roof-top observation deck with its whimsical steps and towers, offering a nice view across the city. We listen to our informative guide, Sandra Benzal, who you can find through aguideinbarcelona. Sandra explains the exterior curved facade and marine sculptures remind us of the nearby Mediterranean Sea, and she points out this was the first building in Barcelona held up by columns, so the rooms could be very large and the walls were not load-bearing, giving Gaudí the chance to make curved walls and ceilings in his creative way. To see Casa Milà you walk a few blocks north of Plaza Catalunya along a stylish boulevard, Passeig de Gràcia, which makes a very pleasant stroll. Casa Milà and Casa Batlló are two of Barcelon's great sites you don't want to miss.

There are many beautiful houses in Barcelona. In this wonderful video we can see one of the most beautiful houses in Barcelona. The Casa Mila is one of the richest and the most beautiful houses in Barcelona. The rich family of this house did build this building a long time ago. The people still live in this building. There is a museum, shops, and a restaurant inside of this beautiful building. The beauty of the Casa Mila did make this building very famous beyond the borders of Barcelona. The family, who build this beautiful home, did become even richer, because the house is generating income from tourism and the shops in the house.
La Casa Mila is popularly known as La Pedrera (the quarry in the Catalan language). The Casa Mila is a reflection of the artistic style of Antoni Gaudí, the architect, who build this house for a rich family with the family name of Mila. Since 2013, La Pedrera is owned by the La Pedrera Foundation, which is responsible for organizing exhibitions, activities and visits, and reducing taxes as a non-profit organization. The Casa Mila is located on a corner of Paseo de Gracia with the Provenza street, formerly occupied by a villa that was on the border between the municipalities of Barcelona and Gracia, before the annexation of this town to Barcelona in 1897.
The Casa Mila was declared a historical and artistic monument of national importance, in 1969. The building was built on a plot of land with 34 by 56 meters, with 1835 m2 of surface. The basement, where a garage is located, contains a large pillar of iron and iron beams that support a circular courtyard above the garage. The facade of the Casa Mila looks like a rock that was shaped by the waves of the sea.
Inside of the Casa Mila there is a functionally that was designed for the fluid communication between the various parts of the building. To do this, the ground floor has two entrances with two hallways that connect the exterior and the interior space. There is also a passage between the two parts of the Casa Mila.
Despite the repeated opposition of the city council of Barcelona, The Casa Mila is an important part of the city and of top ten sites that are most touristic places in Barcelona. In the beginning, the government of Barcelona did try to extract as much money as possible from the construction of the building. Now the city is very happy to own this building. Call it what you like. It's envy and greed.
The Casa Mila suffered various delays during construction. The building surpassed the height limit and width which was accepted by the city of Barcelona at that time. Moreover, Antoni Gaudí gave up the construction of the building in 1909, because of personal differences with the owner of the building.
During the Spanish Civil War, the Casa Mila was occupied by the Unified Socialist Party of Catalonia, whose general secretary, Joan Comorera, moved to the main floor. The Mila family were forced to join the nationalist camp, in order to be able to return to their home at the end of the war. The house is so beautiful that the most powerful people want to have it. Everybody is fighting about the ownership of this house and it's beauty.
