CASCADA DE BASASEACHI | Private Tour from Creel | Chihuahua
On our second day in Creel, Chihuahua we continue with the adventures and book a tour to the second highest waterfall in Mexico. It's a two hour car ride from Creel to Basaseachi, so we gave ourselves the entire day to explore. It is possible to do the hike on your own, but we do recommend getting a driver to drive you there, seeing as the roads are very, very bad. There are tons of potholes on this one lane road and it is probably safer to have a local that is familiar with the roads drive.
Give yourself about 2 hours to hike down to the bottom and back up, plus what ever time you spend at each view point. It was a pretty epic view from all view points so it's definitely worth making the trip to Basaseachi. It's not as popular as the Cusárare waterfall we visited on the first day in Creel, which you can check out below, but it is a much more epic waterfall and worth the trip.
We booked our hike with a local guide, Omar and were well taken care of by his associate Fransisco.

We were pleasantly surprised with Creel and how much we got to experience in this Pueblo Magico. You can also check out day one in Creel, where we get to explore more of the pueblo, learn about the Tarahumara culture, understand its people, and visit another waterfall, Cascada Cusárare.

Cascada Basaseachi, Chihuahua. Mex.
Basaseachic Falls is the second-highest waterfall in Mexico, It is 246 meters, is located in the high mountains of the Sierra Madre Occidental, in the Municipality of Ocampo, 3 km (1.9 mi) from Basaseachi community and about 265 km (165 mi) west of Chihuahua. It is reached via Federal Highway 16 and its surroundings make up the Basaseachic Falls National Park.
Basaseachic Falls was considered the tallest waterfall in México until the measurement in September, 1994 of the Cascada de Piedra Volada. Both of these waterfalls are seasonal, drying up in the Spring and Autumn dry seasons.
GOOD TO KNOW!

San Carlos TV Basaseachi Yecora.mov
We decided to escape the Crowds of San Carlos for Easter and travel the winding roads to the Sierras in Chihuahua and visit the National Park at Basaseachi. The highest water fall in Mexico is an 8 hour drive from San Carlos. We also stopped off in Yecora Sonora to observe the Pima Indians celebration of Easter.
