CASCADE FALLS JACKSON, MI
CASCADE FALLS PARK (SPARKS FOUNDATION COUNTY PARK)
The best-known attraction of this 457-acre park is the Cascades, a man-made, illuminated waterfall with musical accompaniment enjoyed by all since 1932. Some prefer to watch the dancing lights and listen to the beautiful music from comfortable seats, while the more energetic climb to the top of the 500 foot hill alongside the six giant fountains while dodging the spraying water.
The falls are illuminated every night from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The falls are both illuminated and choreographed and are the site of concerts and civil war reenactments.
Address: 1233 South Brown Street, Jackson, MI 49203

For a community that is known as being at the state's crossroads
History unveils the story of a nation's pioneer
It was under the oaks where the Rose City was cultivated
Trailblazing industries that would foreshadow an economic revolution
Our blue-collar workers left fingerprints on more than just the tools of their day
Forging a nation's identity by standing for values such as conservation and hard work
The pulsation of progress never left our veteran workers
Even when weathered industries flatlined
You see, we were called for such a time as this
A time to refocus on faith and family
A time to reinvest in human capital and community
A time to innovate a nation as we have done before
From Jacksonopolis, To Jacksonburgh,
This is Jackson.

Police chase 2016, Jackson, Michigan
*** Subscribe to Police Officers: ***
Jackson, Michigan, United States, August 16, 2016 - A preliminary examination for a man accused of fleeing police who were responding to a report of shots fired will continue in two weeks.
Keith Mcleain, 33, returns before Jackson District Court Judge Darryl Mazur Sept. 13, after prosecution and defense attorneys agreed to adjourn the case Thursday, Sept. 1, after hearing testimony from only one Jackson police detective involved in the brief police chase that led to Mcleain's arrest Aug. 16.
Mcleain is charged with one count of third-degree fleeing from police, one count of carrying a concealed weapon, two counts of obstructing police, one count of felony firearms and a misdemeanor count of altering or forging a document.
After hearing testimony from Jackson Police Det. Gary Schuette, prosecuting and defense attorneys agreed to continue the at the later date to hear testimony from the lead detective in the case, Det. Brett Stiles, who was unavailable Thursday.
Mcleain was arrested after a brief police chase following a shooting that occurred between persons in a green GMC Yukon and a silver Chevrolet Impala in the 300 block of Summit Avenue on Aug. 16.
Schuette testified while he was on his way to the scene of the shooting, he witnessed a green GMC Yukon with several bullet holes in it traveling westbound on E. Washington Avenue.
The vehicle made a sharp left turn into a parking lot at the corner of Washington Avenue and Cooper Street where he attempted to stop the vehicle, he said.
The Yukon traveled around the building, through a grass lawn and was blocked in by fellow Jackson Police officers converging on the scene, he said.
Schuette testified Mcleain talked to him after he was arrested and told him he was fleeing after being shot at by his baby momma's new boyfriend.
Police located a handgun laying on some woodchips under a bush along the route Mcleain took around the building. As it had recently rained, everything was wet except for the handgun, Schuette testified.
Defense attorney Alfred Brandt argued there was nothing directly linking Mcleain to the weapon.
You don't know if the driver tossed it, a passenger tossed it or if it was just there, he said. I assume the gun is in the crime lab and we may get it back this year or in 2017.
Schuette said he lost sight of the vehicle for a brief moment when it went around the building and did not see a gun tossed from the vehicle during the police chase.
In the dashcam video obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, it shows Jackson Police Officer Dean Schuette leaving the police department on E. Washington Avenue heading east towards the reported shooting.
Schuette quickly turns the cruiser around upon hearing a suspect had fled into a nearby parking lot. He catches up with Det. Schuette and quickly blocks the exit of the parking lot.
Officers ordered Mcleain to keep his hands visible and to exit the vehicle. Appearing somewhat confused of what is going on, he follows the officer commands and exits the vehicle peacefully.
Police have been keeping close watch on Summit Avenue after the area experienced a rash of shootings one incident of which sent four individuals to the hospital, police said.
Mcleain's preliminary examination will continue at 9 a.m., Sept. 13 in Mazur's courtroom.

I have more, when he ran between building and van, there was a camera in the window, looks like it will have to go to the state Governor as our local police department is not doing their jobs and do not intend to.
Sad to say that on Nov 19 My store was broken into, they Pulled my power meter, not realizing that my building was solar powered I have them on video doing this, not to mention the fact that they left two of there tools at my store that they used to break in, I have three tracking dogs, geez, guess whats going to happen, they turned my power off at 12:16 at 12:18 they broke through my back window that had a camera on it, Problem is I know who did this but the local police department is not willing to peruse this matter. they got me for approx 20,000. not to mention the mental anguish. today I had new info as tho my post on craigs list. I had someone come in and id the tools used during sthe break in. the past 5 years it has been getting worse 5 fold each year. this one being the worst, 5 figures this year between retail fraud and break ins, makes it impossible to run a business in blackman township. 1 year has passed and they still have not investigated the first two incidents. this time I have video feed, evidence, statements, know without a doubt it is 1 of two people and they want to wait untill next week, repeatedly explained to them that if they do not respond quick that all the inventory will be gone, just goes to show how caring they are, not to mention the fact this summer they sent a police officer to my store this summer to tell me to mow my yard and take a tent down. this thing should have been mailed with a .0001 cent stamp. but instead they send an officer to my store to tell me this, this officer should have been researching criminal investigations. just goes to show how the legal system goes. this is going to force me to close my doors after 25 years, I enjoyed the first 22 years and greatly appreciate all the local people that came by, everything this month is 10% off at least, next month 20% off. maybe if the law will respond to who I know broke in I may be able to recover from some of this but so far it is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Maybe if everyone called with concern it could get better. if not maybe it was meant for me to close down after 25 years. I would be very grateful if you would repost this so that it can be massively seen, if you do not want to I understand and will not condone it. just means that it was meant to be for me to shut down. thank you all for a great 25 years of being in business and I wish the best of all and may you all have a great holiday -s
The Great blizzard of 1978 - Jackson Michigan
Peek Through Time: Jackson Michigan was buried by 23 inches of blowing snow during 'Blizzard of '78' --- .By Leanne Smith from the Citizen Patriot --- JACKSON, MI -- This week, the weather talk has been about below-zero temperatures and brutal wind chills. --- Those around long enough to remember this same week can tell a very different story about what meteorologists at the time said was the most extensive and most severe blizzard in Michigan history.
The first warnings of the storm came in the Wednesday, Jan. 25, 1978 Citizen Patriot under the headline 14 inches of snow predicted. Residents were warned to warm up the snow blowers and ready the shovels and plows.
By the time it was over, the Blizzard of 1978 had dumped 23 inches of snow on Jackson, and more elsewhere in the state and the Midwest.
All those snow blowers, plows and shovels on the ready were rendered ineffective by the storm's heavy, thick, wet snow, compounded by 60 mph winds.
In Jackson, two people died, 500 residents were without fuel, farmers were forced to dump their milk, the roofs of a half-dozen buildings collapsed and mail wasn't delivered for four days.
The snow began at about 11 p.m. Jan. 25. By midnight, Jackson police were reporting that roads were impassable.
( Blizzard of 1978 vs. 2011. Which was the weather knockout? )
Heavy snow began falling on parts of the Lower Peninsula late Jan. 25. About 23 inches of snow fell in Jackson Michigan over the next couple of days.
...The blizzard left more than 20 people dead statewide and more than 125,000 vehicles stranded on roadsides. --- Clogged roads and poor visibility left much of Michigan snowbound. Only emergency traffic was permitted on primary and secondary roads in the hardest hit areas, with freeways.
Michigan's Great Blizzard of 1978
The most extensive and very nearly the most severe blizzard in Michigan history raged throughout Thursday January 26, 1978 and into part of Friday January 27. About 20 people died as a direct or indirect result of the storm, most due to heart attacks or traffic accidents. At least one person died of exposure in a stranded automobile. Many were hospitalized for exposure, mostly from homes that lost power and heat. About 100,000 cars were abandoned on Michigan highways, most of them in the southeast part of the state.
Michigan winter storms all but demand a showdown: The blizzard of 1978 versus the Groundhog Day blizzard of 2011.
High winds. Treacherous roads. Schools closed. Snows exceeding 17 inches.
And the winner?
No contest, say the experts. By knockout.
It's 1978, said National Weather Service Meteorologist Brandon Hoving.
It had longer duration impact across the area. People were stuck in their homes for several days. We had road closures, stranded cars. High winds. It was as bad as it gets.

The Grand Rapids LipDub Video was filmed May 22nd, with 5,000 people, and involved a major shutdown of downtown Grand Rapids, which was filled with marching bands, parades, weddings, motorcades, bridges on fire, and helicopter take offs. It is the largest and longest LipDub video, to date.
This video was created as an official response to the Newsweek article calling Grand Rapids a dying city. We disagreed strongly, and wanted to create a video that encompasses the passion and energy we all feel is growing exponentially, in this great city. We felt Don McLean's American Pie, a song about death, was in the end, triumphant and filled to the brim with life and hope. - Rob Bliss, Director & Executive Producer
