PORTUGAL, Cascais - walk in old town
Cascais, Portugal May 2017
Cascais is a delightful Portuguese fishing town that is situated on the western edge of the beautiful Lisbon coastline, and is the region’s most popular holiday destination. Historically the town was a favourite with the Portuguese nobility, and today the town is an elegant blend of grand 19th century architecture, traditional Portuguese charm and outstanding tourist facilities.
These factors combine not just to make a great holiday destination but also an enjoyable day trip from Lisbon, which is less than 20 minutes away by train.

ABOUT THIS VLOG:
➡ Cascais, Portugal, has for many years been a popular tourist destination for sunshine hungry people. Cascais actually became popular before Lisbon, which is why Cascais is a very polished area that today is where the rich and famous live in their huge mansions.
Cascais has a lot to offer so it can be hard to know where to start.
What we did was to explore the best and most popular things to do which includes the old town of Cascais, Boca do Inferno, Guincho Beach and Cabo da Roca.
The old town of Cascais is super charming and a great place to relax and just enjoy life. There are a lot of tourists traps, but if you do your research you will be just fine. This is also a place where you can shop til you drop although the selection isn't overly impressive.
A short drive from Cascais Old Town is Boca do Interno, which is a beach front cliff area with magnificent views and nice restaurants. It's a wonderful place to come a unwind and just enjoy the waves coming in. And speaking of waves Guincho Beach is an obvious must-visit. This is the go-to beach of Cascais, where surfers, tanners, tourists and locals mix together in a good blend without causing too much traffic. The beautiful beach is surrounded by plenty of restaurants and hotels including Fortaleza do Guincho, which has a 1-star Michelin restaurant that is worth visiting.
Finally, visiting Cabo da Roca is great way to end the day and enjoy the sunset. This is the most western point of continental Europe, which is also why lots of tourists flock to the place. There are a lot of tourists, which is a drawback, but you can't beat that view. It's just incredible!

Estoril - Cascais - Sintra - The Riviera of Portugal
Often called The Riviera of Portugal, the coastal regions of Estoril and Cascais are known for their beautiful beaches, pleasant climate throughout the year and a thoroughly modern cosmopolitan atmosphere. These area's area are known in particular as the home of some of the most beautiful homes in Portugal and indeed, in Europe.
Estoril has a wealth of attractions to offer visitors, including Europe's largest casino, no less than ten world class golf courses in the region, international schools, marinas and unequalled beaches along its waterfront, luxury hotels, tennis facilities, health clubs, equestrian centers and certainly no shortage of gourmet dining and excellent shopping.
Another of Estoril's many claims to fame is that Ian Fleming, best known for his series of James Bond novels spent much of World War II in Estoril as a spy for MI6. His book Casino Royale is partly based on his time in Estoril - and the film version of the Bond novel On Her Majesty's Service was filmed in Estoril and the nearby town of Sintra.
Located just 15 miles from Lisbon International Airport and even closer to Tires Airport (which is a private airport), Estoril is located perfectly for anyone in search of a vacation property, a permanent home to settle down in or simply to visit while on holiday. Cascais, a pleasant seaside town is close enough to walk to from Estoril, all the charm of Sintra a short drive of ten minutes away; and even all of the activity and culture of Lisbon is less than twenty minutes away by car. As you would expect from its proximity to the city of Lisbon, Estoril is a city which is up to the minute and offers leisure, sport, nightlife and cultural activities to rival any other in Europe.
Cascais is has a slower pace, despite being so close to the bustle of Estoril and Lisbon; this is a fishing village where life still follows traditional patterns in many ways. If you'll be in Estoril or Lisbon, Cascais is a place you simply must see. You can enjoy the beauty of Guincho Beach, located on the Atlantic Ocean, visit the Cascais historical center, or take a quick trip back to Estoril and its many golf courses.
Sintra, a town which holds the distinction of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a town which has lost none of its charm despite the short distance to all the modern amenities of Estoril and Lisbon. The town is located in a microclimate which allows incredible gardens and orchids to thrive nearly the whole year round. Sintra was formerly the summer home of the Royal Family of Portugal, so here you will see their royal palace, the Palacio da Pena, which looks as if it came right out of a fairytale. Lord Byron's source of inspiration for his renowned poem Childe Harold was Sintra's Monserratte gardens, which should be on your list of places to see in this incredibly charming Portuguese town.
It's easier than ever to visit Sintra and see all of its historic charm thanks to recent transportation upgrades which allow you to make your way to the beach at Estoril or Cascais or the many golf courses to be found nearby in just minutes. Since Sintra is also only 25 minutes away from Lisbon Airport by car, you could literally be here within minutes of landing. Living in Sintra means living amongst the rich history and culture of Portugal and literally walking in the footsteps of royalty.

Lisbon's Beach Resort, CASCAIS, PORTUGAL // PT17 ep.4
Hi everyone! In this next episode of the PT17 series, let's go to the beach! The most popular beach near Lisbon is called Praia de Carcavelos, easily reached by a direct train from central Lisbon towards Cascais, getting off at Carcavelos station and then a 10 minute walk, (just follow the other people!) It's got everything you would expect of a good beach - overpriced sunloungers for rent, (guilty!) parasols, plenty of cafes and bars serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, soft golden sand and surprisingly cold water.
If you get bored and fancy a change of scenery though, get back on the same train and ride to the end of the line - Cascais. This very pretty little town looks like a sleepy fishing village that developed into a tourist hive with several hotels, international big-brand restaurants, souvenir and boutique shops and pretty little streets with a Portuguese flair for those al fresco evenings. Highly recommended if you like to be well-catered for in a peaceful and beautiful area while on holiday, but want the buzz of Lisbon within a half hour train ride!
