Kuang Si Waterfalls Luang Prabang, Laos
Day trip to Kuang Si Waterfalls in Luang Prabang, Laos. The falls and water are pristine. Park entrance fees are 20,000 kip per person or roughly $3USD, and well worth every penny. Included in the entrance fee is a bear sanctuary which was really neat to see as well. Kuang Si is about 35 kilos outside of downtown Luang Prabang. Taxis are easily accessible to falls, or for the more adventurous like ourselves, we drove our motorbike out to the falls.Read more about the waterfall and how to get there here:
#95 LUANG PRABANG - AMAZING KUANGSI WATERFALLS - MARCH 2017
TRAVEL VLOG #95
LUANG PRABANG - MARCH 2017
Our first day in Luang Prabang was a Temple day. We started the day at a restaurant opposite the river. We paid 15,000 for pork noodles which were awesome. With our bellies full we headed off to explore. Chompsey Hill was a bit of a hike up but gave great views over the city. You walk up one side and down the other where there are loads of Buddhas and even Buddhas footprint. Our next stop was the UXO Visitor centre. Lao is one of the most bombed countries in the world and there are still millions of them left and they reckon it will take at the current rate of clearance 150 years to get rid of them completely. Mad.
We finished the day watching the sunset over the river with a beer and a quick stroll around the night market.
The following day we hired a bike and headed to Kuangsi Waterfall and there is also a bear sanctuary on the way in. The waterfalls are the most amazing blue colour and great to have a dip in.
Our last stop was Pak Ou Caves. I think most people take the boat to the cave but we decided to us the bike we'd hired in the morning. There are thousands of Buddha statues inside the cave. Its a very cool place to visit.
KUANG SI WATERFALL near LUANG PRABANG, Laos
The Kuang Si Waterfall and turquoise pools are a MUST-SEE highlight when visiting Luang Prabang, Laos! The waterfall is located about 18 miles (29 km) south of Luang Prabang, about a 30-minute drive. The falls begin in shallow pools atop a steep hillside that lead to the main fall with a 200 ft. (60 m) cascade that then flows through a limestone-rich jungle into dozens of multi-tiered brilliant turquoise pools. It's impossible to take a bad photo!!
TRAVEL TIPS:
TIP # 1
The entrance fee is 20,000 kip ($2.40 USD). The waterfall opens daily from 08:30-17:30. If you forgot to bring a water bottle with you from your hotel, don’t worry, there are vendors selling snacks and drinks. Do bring insect repellant with you.
TIP # 2
Bring the right footwear! It’s only a 15-minute walk from the bottom entrance to the big falls but the walking trails are not paved. They are hard-packed and fairly flat but can become very slippery when wet.
TIP# 3
Some of the pools are considered sacred. Obey the signs and swim only where permitted. But do get your ankles wet for a great photo! There are public changing huts available (no showers).
