A cyclist POV of traveling from South Portland, over the Casco Bay Bridge, down Commercial Street in the Old Port, onto the Eastern Trail, passing the Graffiti Wall, up onto Tukey's Bridge, and connecting to the Back Cove trail. Nothing dramatic - just a taste of biking in Portland Maine area. This was relatively early on a Sunday morning so no big crowds yet, although a cruise ship was in port.

EXPLORING THE ISLAND - Portland, Maine

Today I spend the morning exploring Long Island, Maine, just of the coast from Portland in Casco Bay. After that, I take the ferry back to Portland and venture to a tiny lighthouse called, Bug Light, that is actually on the Portland City Seal. I then get some delicious lunch at a very popular restaurant called Duck Fat. They are famous for their fries that they fry in, you guessed it, duck fat. I then head north to Maine Beer Co. to grab a tshirt for a friend and then explore the MASSIVE L.L. Bean campus. It's comprised of 4 huge stores that are all open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. After getting lost among the gigantic selection of outdoor goods, I head back to Portland to have dinner and a drink at a local brewpub called Sebago.

#39. Portland, Maine WELCOME YOU!

Portland is a city in the U.S. state of Maine, set on a peninsula extending into Casco Bay. The Old Port waterfront features working fishing wharves and converted warehouses with restaurants and shops. Nearby, the Western Promenade is a public park atop a bluff, offering river and mountain views. Its surrounding district, the West End, is full of Victorian-era homes, including the Victoria Mansion museum.

If you like historical places, Portland city is right for you. For me, Portland is my favorite place for cheap and fresh lobsters.

Casco Bay Mailboat Tour

We found a new way to travel and sightsee! We hitched a ride on a mailboat! Yep, a true working boat carrying passengers, mail and freight to the islands of Casco Bay—Little Diamond, Great Diamond, Long, Cliff and Chebeague. We stayed on board the entire 3 hour trip. It was a wonderful way to see the sights of the Bay.

Portland is the largest city in Maine which is located in Cumberland County.

Visitors enjoy Portland's historic Old Port district along Portland Harbor, at the mouth of the Fore River and part of Casco Bay, and the Arts District, which runs along Congress Street in the center of the city. Portland Head Light is located in nearby Cape Elizabeth and marks the entrance to Portland Harbor.
