Monaco-Ville (Old Town), Prince's Palace - ???????? Monaco - 4K Virtual Tour
Walking around Monaco-Ville, the historical part of Monaco City sightseeing the Prince's Palace of Monaco. Click here ▶ to see highlights and guide.
Monaco-Ville Old Town is very picturesque and is located on a hill that is surrounded on three sides by the Mediterranean. Once you get to the top you’ll find yourself in the Place du Palais in front of the Prince’s Palace of Monaco. The palace belongs to the current prince of Monaco, Albert II. The building is open to visitors, and tickets can be bought at the box office in front of the palace.
The square in front of the palace is spacious and provides a view of Monaco’s port and the buildings running up to the Monte Carlo district. A good eye will even be able to see the famous Monte Carlo Casino. The inner Old Town is built of charming, narrow streets that dates back to the 13th century when the principality was founded.

Cafe de paris, Monaco, MonteCarlo
A Walk Around the Place de Palais, Monaco
The Prince's Palace of Monaco is the official residence of the Sovereign Prince of Monaco. Built in 1191 as a Genoese fortress, during its long and often dramatic history it has been bombarded and besieged by many foreign powers. Since the end of the 13th century, it has been the stronghold and home of the Grimaldi family who first captured it in 1297. The Grimaldi ruled the area first as feudal lords, and from the 17th century as sovereign princes, but their power was often derived from fragile agreements with their larger and stronger neighbours.
Thus while other European sovereigns were building luxurious, modern Renaissance and Baroque palaces, politics and common sense demanded that the palace of the Monegasque rulers be fortified. This unique requirement, at such a late stage in history, has made the palace at Monaco one of the most unusual in Europe. Indeed, when its fortifications were finally relaxed during the late 18th century, it was seized by the French and stripped of its treasures, and fell into decline, while the Grimaldi were exiled for over 20 years.
The Grimaldis' occupation of their palace is also unusual because, unlike other European ruling families, the absence of alternative palaces and land shortages have resulted in their use of the same residence for more than seven centuries. Thus, their fortunes and politics are directly reflected in the evolution of the palace. Whereas the Romanovs, Bourbons, and Habsburgs could, and frequently did, build completely new palaces, the most the Grimaldi could achieve when enjoying good fortune, or desirous of change, was to build a new tower or wing, or, as they did more frequently, rebuild an existing part of the palace. Thus, the Prince's Palace reflects the history not only of Monaco, but of the family which in 1997 celebrated 700 years of rule from the same palace.
During the 19th and early 20th centuries, the palace and its owners became symbols of the slightly risqué glamour and decadence that were associated with Monte Carlo and the French Riviera. Glamour and theatricality became reality when the American film star Grace Kelly became a chatelaine of the palace in 1956. In the 21st century, the palace remains the residence of the current Prince of Monaco.

Watching the Monaco scene
Monaco Casino , dinner night :)
Monte Carlo , is officially refers to an administrative area of the Principality of Monaco, specifically the ward of Monte Carlo/Spélugues, where the Monte Carlo Casino is located. Informally the name also refers to a larger district, the Monte Carlo Quarter (corresponding to the former municipality of Monte Carlo), which besides Monte Carlo/Spélugues also includes the wards of La Rousse/Saint Roman, Larvotto/Bas Moulins, and Saint Michel. The permanent population of the ward of Monte Carlo is about 3,500, while that of the quarter is about 15,000. Monaco has four traditional quarters. From west to east they are: Fontvieille (the newest), Monaco-Ville (the oldest), La Condamine, and Monte Carlo.
Monte Carlo (literally Mount Charles) is situated on a prominent escarpment at the base of the Maritime Alps along the French Riviera. Near the quarter's western end is the world-famous Place du Casino, the gambling center which has made Monte Carlo an international byword for the extravagant display and reckless dispersal of wealth.[1] It is also the location of the Hôtel de Paris, the Café de Paris, and the Salle Garnier (the casino theatre which is the home of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo).
The quarter's eastern part includes the community of Larvotto with Monaco's only public beach, as well as its new convention center (the Grimaldi Forum), and the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort. At the quarter's eastern border, one crosses into the French town of Beausoleil (sometimes referred to as Monte-Carlo-Supérieur), and just 8 kilometres (5 mi) to its east is the western border of Italy.

Touring Monaco and Monte Carlo can involve a considerable amount of walking but you'll drive directly up to the district of Monte Carlo, where you'll find the Place du Casino, the Hotel de Paris, Cafe de Paris and the legendary Monte Carlo Casino. View the exterior of the magnificent casino and take some time to stroll along the luxury boutiques and cafes. Head up to Monaco Rock, where you'll walk the narrow streets of Old Monaco. Here you'll see the cathedral where Prince Rainier married Grace Kelly and where they are both now laid to rest. Your walking tour will bring you further to the Prince's Palace Square where you'll have free time to admire the exterior of the Grimaldi Palace and do some shopping.
Note: During summer months expect extreme heat, crowded venues and long lines. We recommend that you dress in layers, wear comfortable shoes, a hat, sunglasses and bring bottled water. Guests must be able to walk approximately 1 1/2 miles over various surfaces. Tour order may vary. The Monaco city buses used are exclusively reserved for Norwegian Cruise Line guests. These local buses are designed for standing and seated occupancy, so some guests will stand during the short transfers. Casino de Monte Carlo opens its Salles Americaines (free admission) at 2:00pm, with slot machines only. Salles Publiques (entrance fee of 10 Euros in cash) is open at 2:00pm for Roulette and slot machines. Visitors must be at least 18 years of age and show passport or ID Card. Morning tours to Monte Carlo will not be able to enter the Grand Casino. There is a free-admission, American-style casino at the Cafe de Paris, which opens at 10:00 am.
Monte-Carlo (day and night)
Looking around Monte-Carlo, Monaco. You can see the Cafe de Paris on the left, the Casino in the center, and Le Louis XV (which, I'm told, is the most expensive restaurant in the world).
