Hiking the Casque Isles Trail in Terrace Bay
The Casque Isles Trail is a gorgeous, hike within the communities of Terrace Bay, Schreiber, and Rossport in Northwestern Ontario. The trail skirts the edges of Lake Superior and provides some amazing views, incredible beaches, and good change of spotting some wildlife. A relaxing hike is the 30 minute one from Terrace Beacy Beach into the area of Danny's Cove as shown in this video. It was a cool April day when the hike took place and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

I have done parts of this trail before but this is my first time 'thru-hiking' the entire trail. Although the trail isn't very long ~53km there are sections that are very very rough.
Davys Cove along Casque Isles Trail near Terrace Bay
One of many sandy scenic coves and bays found along the north shore of Lake Superior. I was doing some solo hiking along the Casque Isles Trail on Saturday July 21, 2012 and found this cove. I recorded the sound of the surf as it was quite nice. It was also a pretty hot day so did some wading into the lukewarm water to cool off.

Aguasabon Falls in Terrace Bay
This video shows the magnificant Aguasabon Falls and Gorge in Terrace Bay, Ontario at one of its highest recorded levels of 200 cubic metres per second. The sight is simply incredible and hard to imagine that it is one of the main water diversions into Lake Superior and has raised water levels 2.8 cm! The attraction has a nice park and washrooms for tourists and leads into the 52km Casque Isles Hiking Trail. For more information visit terracebay.ca.
Terrace Bay Ontario, Canada
This video is a montage of the 3 days I spent in Terrace Bay. Terrace Bay is a town with just over 1,000 people and has plans to grow in the coming years- this place is INCREDIBLE and offers more than I can fit into this nine minute video as I was only here for a few days. Hiking trails that extent around Lake Superior (51 kilometres long), a scenic beach & marina, a golf course, Aguasabon falls & gorge, Danny's cove, the Slate Islands boat tours & more are all here... I know I will be back here one day and I predict this hidden gem will continue to grow.
Hiking the Casque Isles Trail - Part 2 of 3
I continue along the Casque Isle Trail along the norht shore of Lake Superior.
The trail gets even rougher than in Part 1! The 'Death Valley' section of this trail is definately the most difficult section of trail anywhere on the north shore of Lake Superior. As I am solo I take it slow and careful. I am rewarded with some stunning vistas.
If you are looking for a difficult trail with solitude and great vistas this is it. During this whole trip I only encountered one other hiker - a day hiker near Schrieber.

Terrace Bay Ontario & Terrace Bay Pulp: SMOG or FOG? June 1st 2013
Driving on the Northshore Friday (June 1st, 2013) I saw an unusual sight (well unusual to me perhaps not to people who live there) as I drove nearer Terrace Bay (from the West on Hwy 17) I could see brown smog ahead, coming from the direction of the Mill on the other end of town. On Lake Superior there was blue skies. It was around 6pm mild weather and up until this point it had been an uneventful day of delivering ONN On The Road.
At Subway I asked a couple guys if the town was often covered in this smog they argued that it wasn't smog but rather fog but this seemed unlikely clearly coming from the direction of the Mill (the only reason I can't say for certain if it was coming directly from the mill is because the mill couldn't be seen (AT ALL!) for all the thick smoke/smog.
