Mississippi outing
Cassville, WI. The ferry. It just left when we arrived. We have coffee and plan to catch it on the rebound. When we get back to the ferry, it just left. Again.
Oh well, waiting.....
A train horn in the distance, another waiting car, not much else.
The ferry arrives, we take off. To my horror, the tug detaches shortly after we leave!
Ah, it just turns 'round, it turns out. Meanwhile that train heard in the distance comes through Cassville. Is that second engine an SD-60?
Onwards to Guttenberg, next day to
Dubuque. The 4th street incline also known as Fenelon elevator (worlds
shortest, steepest) creaks up the hill. Dubuque shot tower and the former IC, now CN bridge across the river. Open. No luck there either. The rails disappear in the distance in a tunnel,
but not before crossing the BNSF right in front of it. Too bad the shot tower isn't open for the public. It would be a grand view from up there.
Young cassville Comet Wade Okey's interception
My son Wade had a nice interception. I missed the actual catch, but you can kind see what happened. He was sooo happy, and so were we! He's awesome! NUMBER 27!!!!!!!

Wisconsin’s Iconic Merrimac Ferry: As Popular as Ever
With a history that dates to the 1840s, the Merrimac Ferry remains among the most popular destinations in the state of Wisconsin. Part state highway (WIS 113) and part tourist attraction, Wisconsin’s only free ferry transports around 300,000 vehicles and one million people each year across a half-mile stretch of the Wisconsin River between Sauk and Columbia counties. Who owns and operates the ferry? What should travelers keep in mind when coming aboard? These questions and more are answered in a new video produced by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation in cooperation with the Columbia County Highway Department.
