La Villa Medicea di Cafaggiòlo, detta anche Castello di Cafaggiolo, si trova nel comune di Barberino di Mugello, a nord di Firenze ed è una delle ville medicee più legate alla storia dei Medici. In passato, veniva indicata anche come Cafagiolo, com'è indicato nella famosa lunetta di Utens della fine del XVI secolo. Dal 2013 la villa rientra nell'elenco del patrimonio dell'umanità dell'UNESCO.

The Villa Medicea di Cafaggiolo is a villa situated near the Tuscan town of Barberino di Mugello in the valley of the River Sieve, some 25 kilometres north of Florence, central Italy.It was one of the oldest and most favoured of the Medici family estates, having been in the possession of the family since the 14th century, when it was owned by Averardo de' Medici.Averardo's son, Giovanni di Bicci de' Medici, is considered to be the founder of the Medici dynasty.The villa was reconstructed following designs of the eminent Renaissance architect Michelozzo in 1452, becoming a meeting place for some of the greatest intellectuals of the Italian Renaissance.

Un investimento di oltre 170 milioni di euro, con un impatto occupazionale di 2.780 nuovi posti di lavoro generati dall’investimento, dall’attività a regime e dall’indotto. Un valore aggiunto per tutta la Toscana, ma soprattutto per il Mugello, pari a 165 milioni di euro.

Aquí observaréis bosques imponentes, donde albergan cantidades de jabalíes, cabras y zorros, como así también zonas de olivos, cultivo de cereales y una amplia vegetación.
¿Os apetece conocer Mugello en solo un día? Pues entonces, debéis iniciar el recorrido en Scarperia, fundada a comienzos del siglo XIV por Florencia, donde podéis conocer el Palazzo dei Vicari (sede del Museo dei Ferri Taglienti o Museo de los Cuchillos), y próximo a la vía Solferino, la antigua cuchillería Bottega del Coltello.
Ahora bien, continuando con el trayecto, os aconsejamos seguir por Santa Agata, donde se localiza una preciosa iglesia romántica, considerada como la edificación más sacra de Mugello.
Llegando a Galliano, podéis optar (siempre y cuando dobléis hacia la izquierda) por visitar el Convento di Bosco ai Frati, rodeado de un grandioso bosque de robles, donde en su interior se conserva un imponente Crucifijo de Donatello. Asimismo, con dirección hacia el lago de Bilancino, vais a disfrutar de un merecido baño.
Y previamente a finalizar el día por Mugello, camino hacia San Piero a Sieve (un pequeño pueblo ubicado a la derecha del río Sieve cuya historia está relacionada a la de los Médici), se presenta la Villa Medicea di Cafaggiolo (o también Castello Mediceo di Cafaggiolo), un hermoso palacio renacentista perteneciente a la Familia Médici, con un torre ameada en el frente, dos alas y viejas estructuras en su interior.
Pues para cerrar el recorrido de un día por la ciudad, en lo que es la cima de una colina, bañada de cipreses, podéis visualizar el Castello del Trebbio, una construcción aristocrática del siglo XII, cuyo objetivo principal fue el de servir como residencia para la familia Pazzi. Hoy en día, veréis que sus alrededores están repletos de viñedos, los cuales producen no solo unas 350 mil botellas de vino chianti, sino también aromáticos aceites de oliva.

Description of the building
This beautiful restored medieval villa (850 sq.m2) has 5 levels: a large cellar and 4 elevated floors.
On the ground floor there is a large entrance with a caisson ceiling. Medieval walls, laid out of stone, are left unplastered in a natural very beautiful form. A wide corridor leads to two large rooms with painted walls, which were decorated in early 19 century by a famous local artist, coffered ceilings, original parquet in the early 1900s.
Then the large kitchen is equipped with a large fireplace, very suitable for grilling, and a dining room.
On the first floor there are bedrooms with bathrooms.
On the second floor there is a bedroom with a separate bathroom.
On the third floor there is a practical attic.
In the caretaker's house, which is today called the North Tower, there is a kitchen and a dining room with a fireplace on the ground floor.
On the first floor there is a large master bedroom with a spacious bathroom with two sinks, a bath and a shower.
On the second floor there are three bedrooms.
The third floor is currently used as a library.
Large cellars have been restored. They are located almost under the whole building.

Throughout the centuries, the dwelling expanded and to the medieval tower, dating back to the eleventh century, the central building of the thirteenth century was added and, finally, the northern tower - the house of the superintendent.

Villa, even if it is equipped with all modern conveniences, has been restored using prestigious materials in an elegant architectural style with maximum preservation of the original valuable medieval elements. We can find wooden beams, coffered ceilings, terracotta and parquet floors, beautiful small windows providing a wonderful panoramic view and protecting from the bright sun, elegant lamps and open stone walls.

The Villa is located in one of the most picturesque regions of Tuscany, away from the noisy road.
All property is fenced and protected, has an internal parking and a driveway with gravel.
In the park towers the mighty centuries-old Lebanese cedar, on the green lawn there is a gazebo, with a curling yellow rose of elite varieties. In the gazebo there is a sitting area with sofas and armchairs, dining tables.

ToscanaDay ha intervistato il presidente del Consiglio regionale Eugenio Giani durante la presentazione del Masterplan per il recupero e la valorizzazione del Castello di Cafaggiolo, patrimonio Unesco dal 2013.
Su 385 ettari tra boschi e terreni da semina si trovano il Castello e 14 poderi oltre a mulini, fienili, scuderie ed annessi agricoli caratteristici della campagna toscana.
Nel cuore del Mugello sorgerà un Resort esperienziale con quasi 400 suites, ristoranti, bar, piscine, spa, campi da golf e da polo, da calcio e da tennis.
Numerose le collaborazioni in vista con Università italiane e straniere per avviare scuole professionali.
Un investimento iniziale di circa 200 milioni di Euro che produrrà circa 3000 posti di lavoro ed una occupazione a regime di circa 650 unità.
