Aboyne is a village on the edge of the Highlands in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on the River Dee, approximately 26 miles west of Aberdeen. It has a swimming pool at Aboyne Academy, all-weather tennis courts, a bowling green and golf course. Aboyne Castle and the Loch of Aboyne are nearby.
Aboyne has many businesses, including a supermarket (Co-op), two banks, several hairdressers, a butcher, a newsagent, an Indian restaurant and a post office. Originally, there was a railway station in the village, but it was closed on 18 June 1966. The station now contains some shops and the tunnel running under the village is now home to a firearms club. The market-day in Aboyne was known as Fèill Mhìcheil (Scottish Gaelic for Michael's Fair).
The locale was inhabited since very early times with the west wing of Aboyne Castle dated to 1671 AD. The siting of the castle itself is related to the limited number of the crossings of the Mounth of the Grampian Mountains to the south. In 1715 Aboyne was the scene of a tinchal, or great hunt, organised by John Erskine, sixth Earl of Mar, on 3 September, as a cover for the gathering of Jacobite nobles and lairds to discuss a planned Jacobite uprising. The uprising began three days later in Braemar.
Aboyne has a Temperate climate similar to all of the United Kingdom. Due to its high inland position in Scotland, Aboyne can record some very low temperatures and some high snowfall. In summer, when tourists visit, the number of people and vehicles increases dramatically. The Highland Games on the Village Green features in August. Aboyne is unusual in having The Green on which events are held, as the village was modelled by one of the first Marquesses of Huntly (inhabitants of Aboyne Castle) on a traditional English village with a green at the centre. The green includes facilities for rugby and football and a play park.
The British Royal Family are residents in nearby Balmoral Castle during the Summer. Outdoor pursuits include golf, walking, cycling, and gliding from the airfield just outside the village. Aboyne has become popular with gliding enthusiasts from Britain and Europe due to its suitable air currents (due to the surrounding terrain). The airfield has two parallel tarmac runways running east-west, a webcam and small weather-monitoring centre on its premises.
The close-by pass of Ballater is a rock-climbing area. The village of Dinnet is a few miles west and is the first being located inside the Cairngorms National Park. Walkers and cyclists can ascend Mount Keen by cycling as far as they can from Glen Tanar forest before walking to the summit. There are two schools, Aboyne Academy and a primary school. The academy has around 650 pupils, about a third from Aboyne itself, with the remaining two thirds from surrounding villages. The school has access to a full-size swimming pool and gym run by the adjacent Deeside Community Centre.

Haunted History of :Burgh Castle
Burgh Castle is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It is situated on the east bank of the River Waveney. Almost 2,000 years since it was built, three of the four imposing walls still stand, meaning Burgh Castle is one of the largest Roman structures in Britain, standing strong as part of a line of forts along what the Romans called the Saxon Shore
It is reported that once a year the sounds of clashing swords and screaming (in Latin and Anglo Saxon) can be heard near the castle.The castle is also said to be haunted by a figure with what appears to be “a white flag wrapped round it”, that is thrown from the ruins onto the foreshore.
Burgh Castle is the site of one of several Roman forts constructed to hold cavalry as a defence against Saxon raids up the rivers of the east and south coasts of southern Britain (the Saxon Shore). Possibly this was Gariannonum, a name that appears in a some sources; the identification was once thought secure, but is now thought doubtful by specialists. The fort is roughly rectangular, approximately 205 m (673 ft) by 100 m (330 ft), with three of the tall massively built walls still extant; the fourth fell into what was once an estuary but is now a marsh, Breydon Water.
Nearly every local group will have investigated it, collecting some sort of possible evidence. It also boasts different claims in different areas, which is great for multiple visits.

Paranormal Account One:
Stalking around the ruin, close to the marshland, a large dog has been seen prowling when darkness falls. Some claim that it is a werewolf: one investigator witnessed a man morph into a fearsome dog-like creature at the site before padding off into the night. With a single eye that glows either red or green, the beast has been nicknamed Old Scarfe after Baron Rudolf Scarfe, a 13th-century villain who lived nearby – a German mercenary from the Harz mountains, he was excommunicated in his homeland and fled to the castle where he continued to lead a black-hearted life of depravity.
When he was finally killed, the Devil turned him into a huge dog and sent him back to earth to create further havoc.
Paranormal Account Two: Battle cries have been heard many times over the years. There is a date specific report of clashing swords and men screaming on the 27th April.
Paranormal Account Three: Apparitions have been seen throughout the ruin. A young boy wearing rags, a Roman solider, and a man who seems to be walking a dog have all been witnessed multiple times.
The site is owned by the Norfolk Archaeological Trust with the walls in the care of English Heritage. The site is freely open to the public and has a major access and interpretation scheme created by the Trust, with funding and collaboration from Natural England and English Heritage. There is a timber viewing platform overlooking the rivers and marshes which provides an ideal spot for wildlife observation.The walls are in excellent condition and are missing only the parapet that ran along the wall top and protected soldiers patrolling the wall.
Since William Camden, Burgh Castle has been suggested as the site of Cnobheresburg, the unknown place (a castrum or fort) in East Anglia, where in about 630 the first Irish monastery in southern England was founded by Saint Fursey as part of the Hiberno-Scottish mission described by Bede. Historians find many arguments against this location, but are unable to agree on a better one. The Roman fort at Burgh Castle was excavated by Charles Green during 1958-61. A detailed report by Norfolk Museums Service in 1983 (East Anglian Archaeology 20) shows that there was never any monastic settlement in Burgh Castle itself.

Thetford is a market town and civil parish in the Breckland district of Norfolk, England. Thetford is on the A11 road between Norwich and London, just south of Thetford Forest. After World War II Thetford became an ‘overspill town’ taking people from London, as a result of which its population increased substantially.
The Ancient House Museum, situated on White Hart Street, is an oak-framed Tudor merchant's house. The museum holds replicas of the Thetford Treasure and has displays about flint knapping, rabbit warreners and wildlife in the brecks. You can also find out more about Thomas Paine and the Maharajah Duleep Singh. The Ancient House was gifted to the town by Prince Frederick Duleep Singh. The surrounding Breckland has been largely replaced by the Thetford Forest, though Thetford Chase remains.
East Harling near Thetford hosts an annual Autumn Equinox Festival for astronomy. The town is also the site for the UK's Star Party, as it is centrally located in a rural area with dark night skies. An annual concert, STORM open air festival used to take place at the Castle Green.
Thetford is just off the A11 road between Norwich (28 miles (45 km)) and London (86 miles (138 km)). The A11 previously ran through the town but a bypass was constructed in the 1990s. It is served by Thetford railway station, with Abellio Greater Anglia running services between Norwich and Cambridge, and East Midlands Trains from Norwich to Liverpool Lime Street (via Nottingham, Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly). From Cambridge, regular services run to London King's Cross.
The Iceni were a Celtic tribe living in Norfolk and parts of Cambridgeshire. Archaeological evidence suggests that Thetford was an important tribal centre during the late Iron Age and early Roman period. A ceremonial 'grove' was uncovered there during excavations. In 1979, a hoard of Romano-British metalwork, known as the Thetford treasure was located just outside Thetford.

The Engine Yard at Belvoir Castle opened this year, a huge success with hundreds of cars filling the three parking lots every day in the run up to Christmas.
