Castles in North Brabant, The Netherlands Episode 1
First episode in what will probably become a series of aerial impressions of castles in The Netherlands.
Starting off with 4 castles in my local area.
All are located in the province of North Brabant.

Gestichte stad. Het begin van Helmond (NWO Odyssee 28)
Rond 1200 breidde het hertogdom Brabant zich uit en verrezen er steden waaronder Helmond. Onderzoekers vermoeden dat de stad gesticht is door de lokale adel die connecties had met de hertogelijke familie van Brabant. Amateur archeologen en hun professionele collega's hebben sinds 1980 opgravingen uitgevoerd, maar een standaardrapportage zoals nu gebruikelijk, was er nog niet. Het onderzoeksproject, uitgevoerd door drs. Theo de Jong en drs. Nico Arts (Gemeente Helmond), bracht alle losse gegevens bij elkaar en hoopten zo meer te leren over de geschiedenis van de stad en het ontstaan van de Brabantse steden zoals Helmond en Eindhoven.

Kasteel Helmond Castle
The castle in Helmond dates back to the 700 or earlier. It was not always the same building as it was the centre of numerous conflicts. The Castle is now used as a museum but has also served as City Hall and wedding place.

Three test versions were first constructed in 1974, and in 1977 18 houses were constructed in Helmond.The many houses required for a woonwoud (English: living woods) were never realized. The cube houses in Helmond surrounded a theater, Theater 't Speelhuis, which was destroyed by a large fire on 29 December 2011.

Dutch Open Park Series - Miniramp Madness - NK Miniramp Helmond 2019
Last weekend was the first stop of the Dutch Open Park Series. A contest serie fully focussed on ''park'' skateboarding. We kick off with Miniramp Madness. A miniramp contest with a total prize purse of €5000 at a castle in the city of Helmond of all places. Watch the video and take a look at the first DOP event.
