Dunoon
When I got the ferry from Gourock to the Cowal Peninsula, I stopped off at Dunoon. I visited the town's museum, as well as the remains of the town's castle.

7 - The Cambusnethan House, Scotland.
Over in North Lanarkshire is this gorgeous castle that was completed in 1820 and built for the Lockart family. The entire castle was built to their exact requirements, right down to the family crest which is still evident over the entry into the castle and on every baluster of the staircase. The crest is an image of a lock and a heart, after their surname. There’s a legend that tells the tale of this family’s ancestors having carried the heart of Robert the Bruce, King of Scots, back from the Holy Land. Nobody has occupied this castle since 1984 since its condition has deteriorated so badly, it’s just too dangerous.
6 - Pidhirtsi Castle, Ukraine
Originally built as a leisure home, this ginormous castle belonged to a high-ranking Polish military commander. It was built between 1635 and 1640 and the palace gardens were said to be breath-taking. There are also two churches on the grounds as well. During the early 20th century the palace underwent a massive restoration and the owners converted it into a museum. The Lviv Historical Museum took over the castle and it was eventually given to the Lviv Art Gallery, who are struggling with funds to renovate the castle properly. The cost to repair this building is astronomical, and throw in a few ghosts, and you have a castle that will remain unsellable for many years to come.
5 - Hampton Lillibridge House, Savannah
It’s been called the most haunted house in Savannah; the entire house was moved to its current location by a local restoration expert. During reconstruction, workers witnesses a man dressed all in black staring eerily from a window. Odd noises were reported, and various ghost sightings have been reported by visitors. The house was originally on the market for $2.9-million but now the asking price is a mere $500,000 and it’s yet to be purchased!
4 - Kreischer Mansion, Staten Island
Standing empty on Staten Island is this gorgeous Victorian mansion, and it’s empty because it was the scene of an actual crime and of course, it’s haunted! Ironically, the road that the house is situated on is called Arthur Kill Road, as if that wasn’t enough to steer a potential buyer far away! The home was built during the mid-1800’s and the owner, Balthasar Kreischer, had huge success with brickworks in the area. He built twin mansions for two of his son’s on top of Kreischer Hill but departed earth soon thereafter. After that, one brick factory burnt down to nothing and the blow was so great, that one son ended his everything in the one mansion. The other was destroyed during the Depression. Stories have just stuck around this house and nobody has stayed there for very long. An actual crime took place there in 2005. The caretaker was reportedly paid a great sum of money to carry out a hit, cutting the remains to pieces and burning them in the basement furnace. Suffice to say, nobody wants to buy it and it’s empty to this day.
3 - The Perkins House, West Virginia
Over in Charles Town, this 6-bedroom, 6-bathroom mansion is yours for a song. The house is linked to abolitionist, John Brown as it’s here that he was executed. He was convicted of treason in 1859, and this was said to be a pivotal point in American history. The mansion is worth $1.6 million, but the dotted line is yet to be signed as the spirit of Brown is said to still haunt the property today!
2 - The Allyn Mansion, Wisconsin
This mansion has been standing since 1885 and it belonged to the wealth Allyn family. The owner was found in the parlour, no longer breathing. The mansion has functioned as a nursing home, a furniture store and a bed and breakfast. The owners of the guest house tried to sell the house in 2008, but they took it off the market when they were unable to sell, despite the constant lowering of the price. Rumour has it that the ghost of the original owner still haunts the hallways.

The Cockleshell Heroes remembered 1942- 2012
On the 30th November 1942, HM Submarine Tuna sailed from the Holy Loch in Scotland. On board were 13 Marines from the Royal Marines Boom Patrol. Their mission was to canoe over 90 miles, destroy shipping in the Nazi Occupied Port of Bordeaux and escape overland to neutral Spain. A few days later they arrived off the French Coast - One Canoe was damaged so the crew were withdrawn from the mission. The reserve crewman was not required so only 10 Marines, led by Major Blondie Hasler participated.
Only 2 Marines survived the mission and escaped, Hasler being one of them. The men were later immortalised in the film The Cockleshell Heroes .
WW2 Presentations were aware that there was no specific Memorial to these men anywhere in Scotland and sought to rectify this. Between May and October 2012 they established a small temporary Display at the Castle House Museum Dunoon and following some local assistance they pushed for and eventually delivered on a lasting memorial to these brave men. On 11/11/2012 the memorial plaque on the wall of the Lazaretto Point Memorial, Sandbank Dunoon - overlooking the Holy Loch itself was dedicated by the Lord Lieutenant of Argyll. Later that same day WW2 Presentations floated the canoe, that had featured in the display as a final mark of respect.

Rothesay...Ilse of Bute
Rothesay is a smart Victorian seaside resort and the main town on the east side of Isle of Bute.
This highly accessibly town is very traditional and good looking with signs of its Victorian heritage including a splendid Victorian frontage cradling the romantic Rothesay Bay. Dominating the shoreline amongst the glorious esplanade gardens is the refurbished Isle of Bute Discovery Centre, a unique 1920s circular structure of cast iron and glass, now incorporating a cinema, theatre and many interactive displays as well as showcasing the best of Bute.
Visitors can also explore the impressive Rothesay Castle, its dungeons, thick outer walls and grand hall which are all now fully restored. Just behind it sits the fascinating Bute Museum.
To the north of Rothesay, through the small community of Port Bannatyne, lies Ettrick Bay, Bute’s most accessible beach, which is a relative safe haven for able swimmers.
The Waverley
After a wonderful summer day's sailing , Scotland's very own Waverley heads home to Glasgow to rest up for the night. She is known to be the last ocean-going paddle steamer in the world and , apart from her home on the Clyde , she ventures to other UK ports to let the public experience her fine lines and characteristics. She and her fleet consort , MV Balmoral , are the olny two day-trip ships to circumnavigate the whole of the British Coast.
You couldn't put a cost on her , as she is priceless!!
Now , here's the rub , get your hands in your pockets and make a wee donation to The Waverley Appeal , as she needs to be operation and not languishing somewhere in a static condition. Her owners have been doing good work in letting people know , through TV programmes and other media , that they have a loss of of over £300,000 this year alone.
UPDATE: It has been reported that the Waverley will sail yet again in 2012 due to a large donation from the Euro Millions Lottery winning couple from Largs in Ayrshire.

Sex sells ... all over the animal kingdom. Females from numerous species use prostitution to get what they want -- and males are eager to pay up. Penguins pay for lurve with rocks, beetles offer nuptial gifts & chimps may bargain with a fruit or two ... For many animals, sex is all about the right transaction.
04:00 Spotted bonobos where there should be chimps? Never fear -- we know our apes! The chimp's frisky cousins made the cut because the clip made us laugh ... and let's face it -- they love their monkey business more. In terms of anatomical accuracy, we challenge you to find any noticeable difference in their private proportions:
