Mt. Haig - near Castle Wildland Provincial Park (Alberta, Canada)
2017-07-09 - Mt. Haig is familiar to many as the mountain behind Castle Mountain Resort, a popular ski hill in SW Alberta. It is surrounded by Castle Wildland Provincial Park but the Haig/Gravenstafel area is managed by the resort. As such, the trails to the mountain are mostly straight-forward as hikers can go along the ski runs or maintenance trails. There is some good scrambling on the summit ridges and an exciting length of exposure between Haig and Gravenstafel Ridge.
One last note: I apologize for the jittery nature of some of the footage! (software issue).

Castle Peak and Windsor Mountain - Castle Wildland Provincial Park (Alberta, Canada)
2018-07-13 - Castle Peak and Windsor Mountain. The impressive Windsor Ridge massif contains a truly iconic pair of peaks. So iconic in fact that they are the namesake of the entire region including two provincial parks, a nearby ski resort, two nearby peaks (West Castle, North Castle) and two river & valley systems (South Castle, West Castle).
Looking from almost every direction the massif (the entirety of which is often noted on maps solely as 'Windsor Mountain') appears steep, daunting and unattainable, almost as if daring one to climb it.
The hike starts with a long bike ride (14+ Km) to get to the trailhead. The hike itself is fairly straight forward -- as long as you find the trailhead! Going up the nearby drainages will add time and frustration to the hike. The entire Castle - Windsor traverse is over 11 Km. I don't know the exact distance as I lost one of my cameras coming down from Windsor Mt. That camera had the GPS track I was recording as well as some of the best photos and videos of the hike. Grrrr. I went up the next week to Windsor Mt again to look for it (no luck) and even wore the same clothes (how's that for commitment to continuity? haha) and spliced some new videos and pics with the ones that were in my alternate camera.

2015 was a tough snow year that hit hard across all of Western Canada and here at Castle. No fear though as we hooked up with 2 locals that toured us around to show us what this beauty has to offer!
This season is already shaping up to be a better one and we can't wait to catch this gem on a full blown powder day!!

This footage was filmed back in February or March, when I took a day trip to Castle Mountain, Alberta with Nick and Quinn. Keagan works at Castle, so he came for a lap with us as well! I just got around to creating this edit now, sorry for the wait.
