Simontornya, Renaissance 13th century Castle / Simontornyai Vár - HUNGARY - 4K
The Simontornya Castle is a Renaissance castle in Simontornya, Hungary. The Tower was built in the 13th century by Simon (Son of Salamon) among the swamps of the Sió river. The name Simontornya means Simon's Tower. Nearly all owners of the castle made some alterations throughout the centuries. The Lackfi's built a new gothic wing in the 14th century, altered the old Tower, and added an arcaded loggia to the back-front. After the extinction of the House of Garai in 1482, the castle again belonged to Queen Beatrix, wife of Matthias Corvinus. Mózes Buzlay, marshall of King Ulászló II improved the castle into a renaissance palace with the help of Italian masters and craftsmen from Buda. After Buzlays' death the castle was taken over by the Turks in 1545. This event marked the beginning of a new era with an emphasis on military requirements. During the nearly 150 years of occupation minor alterations and refinements were constantly being made.
Simontornya, the center of a sandjak was recaptured by Louis William, Margrave of Baden-Baden in 1686. In just two years (1702-1704) major alterations turned the castle into a fortress. During the revolution against the Habsburgs, led by Prince Francis II Rákóczi, Simontornya became the stronghold of the Kuruc rebels in southwest Hungary. The fortress was captured by the Austrian army in 1709 housing troops until 1717. The castle fortress was later donated to the House of Limburg-Stirum, but, after building a new a castle, they turned the old one into a barn. It has been used as a barn by all new owners until 1960, when archeological excavations started.

Esztergom (Hungary) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Esztergom in Hungary.
Esztergom is a city located west of the Hungarian capital of Budapest on the Slovakian border where, situated on a huge rock, there is a Basilica and castle. This, ‘Hungarian Rome’, lives completely in the shadow of the Catholic Church as the centre of Hungary and residence of the country’s Primas, an area that has been inhabited since the Prehistoric Stone Age. On April 23, 1822, the foundation stone of the Basilica was added to earlier church buildings after Vienna’s Imperial Court helped return the city’s archbishops back to power. At its consecration on August 31, 1856, Franz Liszt performed a specially-composed festive mass in the presence of Emperor Franz Joseph. Everything is based upon its dimensions: a hundred and seven metres to the dome, a hundred and eighteen feet long and forty eight feet wide. It can accommodate a congregation of eight thousand and even today each detail of this monumental building radiates both awe and pomp. The former ecclesiastical and secular centre of Stephan’s Empire has indeed survived the ravages of time..

Castle of Sirok - HUNGARY - 4K
The fortress stands on the border of the Bükk Mountains and the Mátra Mountains over the place where the valley of Tarna creek becomes wider. Its Slavic name may originate from here: Sirok. It was built in mediaeval times in the valley of Tarna creek where it was possible to block and check the Northern roads, although it was mainly a squire's private castle with very little strategic value.
The settlement was founded later; written sources first mention the castle in 1267, while the name of the settlement first appears in written form in 1302 as Sirák.
The castle is divided into two different parts. The upper castle originally had inner columns, and its ground-plan was irregularly shaped. It was protected by a stone wall 10 metres below its level, carved into the rocks surrounding it. The lower castle with its three right angle ground-plan, ancient, Italian-type forts was erected later. Excavations proved that it had been a private fortress first and it became part of the border castle system later. Its oldest part is the residential keep, which was placed in the middle of the upper castle. The double barrel vaults, which can still be seen in the middle of the upper castle, make one conclude that as a rule with these types of fortresses it contained a bigger hall (knights’ hall) for receptions and conclaves, probably in the residential keep.
Real protection was provided by the lower castle, where three ancient Italian forts were erected. The forts on the corners were built of broad stone.
The rocks below the castle contain some hive niches that can be seen in other parts of this region as well.

Open air museum (Skanzen) Szentendre, Hungary 2016
Open air ethnographic museums were established at the end of the 19th century owing to various factors. On the one hand, in accordance with the scientific progress branches of museology continually developed and differentiated. A demand for creating an ethnographic museum which is suitable to demonstrate folk life in a most complex way, furnishings and farming equipment included arose. On the other hand, the capitalist economy reaching its developed stage since the second half of the 19th century resulted in an intensive urbanisation and modernisation from the north-west to the east of Europe, as a consequence of which the existing pieces of peasant architecture began sinking into decay at an alarming speed. Preservation of monuments of folk architecture became imperative. For accomplishing this dual task “skanzens” have proved to be exceptionally appropriate.

The Museum next door there is a history museum to see the history of Hungary. However, a relic of history museum seemed simple indeed. Was not fit enough to love and care about Hungarian culture, in many invasions and domination of yiminjok, seemed a reason not properly preserve the relics. The second basement exhibition hall, there was not none of the yen remains. This is the explanation I heard was that the place to show the history of the building as animated as is the look of the old palace. The exhibition fits in with the true meaning of the History Museum in reading the past in the present. Tour inside the museum found a very special place in bodeon. What is dumyeo made up separately exhibit room, I wondered. Buda Castle dig eotneunde be put to recreate the look of the site as a model, a wall yen carefully placed to explain the history of the rise and fall of Buda Castle. I suddenly became curious. Why would that Hungarians are so carefully preserved the history of the invasion and humiliation of yiminjok. History is also a history of shame, the pain is also the scene of history. Rather than eliminate hiding, trying to get a lesson from them glimpse their will.

Travel Hungary - Visiting Vajdahunyad Castle in Budapest
Take a tour of Vajdahunyad Castle in Hungary -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
It's difficult to believe that this castle was originally a cardboard and wood structure.
Though Hungary's Vajdahunyad Castle looks medieval, it's actually only a little over one hundred years old.
Built for an exhibit, the response was so enthusiastic that a permanent version was constructed.
The castle is an intriguing blend of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architectural styles.
Across from the castle is the statue Anonymous of an unidentified twelfth-century Hungarian chronicler.
Vajdahunyad Castle, now one hundred and two years old, is the location of Budapest's Agricultural Museum.
Visegrád Castle / Citadel - Danube Bend in 4K
Visegrád (Hungarian pronunciation: [ˈviʃɛɡraːd]) is a small castle town in Pest County, Hungary. It is north of Budapest on the right bank of the Danube in the Danube Bend. It had a population of 1,864 in 2010. Visegrád is famous for the remains of the Early Renaissance summer palace of King Matthias Corvinus of Hungary and the medieval citadel.
Danube Bend / Dunakanyar, Visegrád, Castles / Várak
The Danube Bend (Hungarian Dunakanyar) is a curve of the Danube in Hungary, near the city of Visegrád. Within a few kilometers radius, one can visit the historical High Castle, Salamon Tower, Mátyás Király Museum (King Mátyás Museum), Juliánus Kilátó and perhaps even stay at the Thermal Hotel Visegrád or at the Silvanus Hotel, behind the castle, on the top of the mountain.
Hungary's Largest Church-Esztergom Basilica and Treasury (With Facts/Figures)
The Esztergom Basilica in Esztergom, Hungary is the largest church in Hungary and the 18th largest church in the world. The beautiful interior contains the largest painting in the world painted on a single canvas. The Treasury contains vestments and church plates in gold and silver, studded with jewels. Filming was prohibited in the Treasury but I did it until I got caught.
