Alcoutim Castle Alojamento Local features comfortable accommodation in the Algarve. The green areas of the Vale do Guadiana Natural Park are an 18-minute drive away and feature a number of hiking trails and picnic spots.

Alcoutim by the Rio Guadiana - Portugal
Oppover grenseelven Guadiana ligger denne idylliske lille byen Alcoutim. Her finner man to gamle borger. Den eldste er det bare ruiner igjen av og ble bygd av maurerne rundt det 8 og 9 århundre. Denne borgen er opphavet til et gammelt eventyr om Algarveprinsessen. Et eventyr som de fleste i Algarve har latt gå i glemmeboken. Men, kort fortalt, en maurerprinsesse blir altså holdt fanget av et monster under denne steinhaugen. Om en ung mann stiller seg opp mellom to spesifikke trær vil monsteret oppfatte dette som en ufordring og komme ut. Da kan du velge mellom å stikke av eller kjempe mot monsteret. Vinner du er prinsessen din. Har vært der flere ganger, men har tydeligvis ikke funnet de rette trærne. Dessuten er jeg nok for gammel (68). Men området er absolutt verdt et besøk. Besøk den nyere borgen som er riktig så fint vedlikeholdt og er gjort om til et flott museum. Ta en liten matbit mens du ser utover elven med alle seilbåtene.
Up the borderline river Guadiana lies this idyllic small town of Alcoutim. Here you find two old castles. The oldest is only ruins left and was built by the moors around the 8th and 9th centuries. This castle is the origin of an ancient Algarve fairytale. An adventure that most people in the Algarve have forgotten. But, in short, an moorish princess is thus held captive by a monster under this stone pile. If a young man stands up between two specific trees, the monster will perceive this as a challenge and come out. Then you can choose to run or fight the monster. If you win the princess is yours. Have been there several times but have obviously not found the right trees. Besides, I'm probably too old (68). But the area is definitely worth a visit. Visit the newer castle which is properly maintained and is transformed into a great museum. Take a snack while looking out over the river Guadiana with all the sailboats.

Alcoutim, Portugal - Nature and history in Algarve
Alcoutim is a small town in the Algarve, with only 3000 inhabitants, it's actually the town with the lowest population density in Portugal. To make up for it this town seems to have a festival every other week and this time it was to celebrate the smugglers - the smugglers festival. Historically smugglers would cross the border to bring supplies and because of this there was a strong exchange of culture and crafts between Portugal and Spain. We loved getting to know the different artisans and we enjoyed walking up to the castle and having a tea while enjoying a fantastic view. Be advised that during festivals the town seems way too small for the amount of people.

VUELO DESDE EL CASTILLO DE ALCOUTIM - PORTUGAL
Hoy volamos junto a mis amigos José A. Gil y Javier Baena sobre el castillo de Alcoutim. Este tiene forma de polígono irregular, con una superficie aproximada de unos 3.100 m2. Actualmente se conservan dos puertas: La principal, orientada hacia el norte, y otra hacia el este. Ambas son ojivales, lo que indica que se tratan de las de Mértola y del Guadiana mandadas abrir en tiempos de don Dionís. En el patio de armas se ha habilitado el pequeño museo donde pueden contemplarse objetos de distintas épocas, así como parte de la cimentación más primitiva de la fortaleza, y también algunos sarcófagos de piedra encontrados allí mismo. El resto del patio es un cuidado jardín que, aunque impropio de un sitio semejante, convierten el recinto en un agradable lugar.
Podemos apreciar algunas viviendas de Alcoutim, bonito pueblo a orillas del río Guadiana, a unos 40 kilómetros al norte de Vila Real de Santo António, perteneciente al distrito de Faro en la region del Algarve. Su arquitectura es la típica del Algarve, con casas blancas rodeadas de un anfiteatro de colinas en las que destaca su castillo y los veleros anclados a la orilla de su río. Finalizamos el vuelo con una panorámica del municipio español de Sanlucar del Guadiana.

Hoje, voamos juntos para meus amigos Jose A. Gil e Javier Baena em Castelo de Alcoutim. Este é um polígono irregular, com uma área de cerca de 3,100 m2. Duas portas são conservadas: O principal, virada a norte e outro ao leste. Ambos são apontados, indicando que tratou de Mértola e do Guadiana enviado aberta em tempos de Don Dionis. No pátio que está habilitado pequeno museu onde objetos podem ser vistos a partir de eras diferentes, bem como algumas das primeiras fundações do forte, e alguns sarcófagos de pedra encontrados ali. O resto do jardim é um jardim que, embora indigno de um tal lugar, transformar o quarto em um lugar agradável.
Alcoutim é uma cidade agradável sobre o Rio Guadiana, cerca de 40 quilômetros ao norte de Vila Real de Santo António, pertencente ao distrito de Faro, na região do Algarve. Sua arquitetura é típica do Algarve, com rodeada por um anfiteatro de colinas, onde se ergue o castelo e veleiros ancorados nas margens do rio casas brancas. Nós terminamos o voo com uma visão geral da cidade espanhola de Sanlucar del Guadiana.

ALCOUTIM,located in the Northeast of Algarve, between Serra do Caldeirão and Guadiana river, away from the bustle of the tourist centers it's a place of unparalleled natural beauty, rich cultural heritage and very peaceful, people are very friendly. The historic center keeps in its narrow streets and steep side of a quiet atmosphere, typical of a mountain village where you can find the Castle, which was built in the begining of fourteenth century. In the Museum of Archaeology you can see archaeological findings of the county. Also, in the center of the village you can visit the Church, is one of the best examples of the Renaissance in the Algarve.
