The medieval town of Oria
The town of Oria is located in the North of Salento and belongs to the province of Brindisi. The center is situated on the most elevated heights, a cordon of hills of ancient coastal dunes, overlooking the plain of the Tableland D'Otranto (also called the board of Lecce ), on the ancient route of the Via Appia, 6 km from Francavilla Fontana 32 Km from Brindisi, 36 km from Taranto, 42 km from Lecce and 100 km from Bari its territory has an area of about 9000 hectares and adjoins one of Francavilla, Torre Santa Susanna, Erchie and Latimer in Brindisi and Sava Manduria in Tarantino. Charming town of ancient origins, as evidenced by the impressive and beautiful medieval castle, today the city, for its beauty and monumental landscape, is among the most important destinations in the region's territory. In addition, several archaeological excavations have brought to light findings and evidence from various eras from the past. The center is beautiful, with large squares and ancient churches. Among its treasures, stands the Castello Svevo: The imposing mansion was built between 1225 and 1233 by an order of Emperor Frederick II in the highest part of the city. It has a characteristic shape of an isosceles triangle, very nice inside and out and offers a beautiful view from the Torre Dello Sperone , like the prow of a ship. Thanks to its favorable and ideal location it is a pearl between the Adriatic and the Ionian Sea, the two seas that bathe Puglia - it is a great stop for those who choose Apulia for the holidays. The town is about 15 km from the beautiful beaches of Salentos Ionic coast , approximately a 15 minute drive away. You find there: Field of Maruggio Marino, San Pietro in Bevagna, Torre Colimena, Punta Prosciutto etc. . Excellent local kitchen that will delight you with sublime food
Magnificent Castle In Italy, 13th Century Completely Restored
The Suevian castle in Oria is a splendid building constructed between 1225 and 1233 by Frederick II one of the most powerful Holy Roman Emperors of the Middle Ages, nephew of Frederick Barbarossa (also known as Frederick Red beard).
The castle has been defined as a gigantic stone jewel by the french Paul Bourget, summarising the splendour of this Suevian manor positioned on the highest hill halfway between Brindisi and Taranto along the roman Appian Way. Frederick intended the castle to be a defensive fortress to preserve the old and rich town of Oria. Because of its position - just in between the Adriatic and Ionian Sea along the Appian Way - Oria has always been a crossroads of cultures and strategic routes. Its triangular plan is characterised by three towers called Quadrata, Del Cavaliere and Del Salto: the first tower is a Frederican matrix, while the other two date back to Angionian domination.
The castle is surrounded by legend that makes its history even more fascinating and over the centuries it has been the residence of princes, knights and nobles.
Since 1933 this National Monument is owned by privates who restored it with lovely care and attention. The castle has an isosceles triangle shape with vertex faced North while donjon and the two cylindrical towers on South enclosing a big yard which could contain up to five thousand soldiers. Through the yard is still possible to get access to the old crypt, part of the former cathedral of Oria.
The whole estate runs along the south and west sides of the triangle with the historical complex on the south side with the towers Quadrata del Salto and del Cavaliere. The historical part is nowadays also a museum with a private collection of archaeological remains of pre-roman age. The west side of the estate is on two levels: the ground floor has a main hall, offices, a direct access to a private apartment, kitchen and bathrooms. From the main hall, an internal staircase (there is also a wonderful stone staircase outside leading up to first floor from the courtyard) lead up to first floor with conference halls, the private apartment and the access to the historical part of the building. Because of its position the castle lift the spirit from any external window and door with stunning views on the medieval town of Oria with its old jewish quarter, the surrounding countryside and on the private garden running along the west side of the castle. The manor, in fact, also has a second access throught the garden, with parking areas created in the greenery of the park.

Domus Aurea, The Golden House of Nero, Rome - Italy 4K Travel Channel
The Domus Aurea, the Golden House was built by Emperor Nero, as his palace in the center of Rome.
At the time of Nero, the palace extended from the Palatin up to the Esquilin, a part of the Caelius was also included. In the center, where the Coloseum stands today, was a large artificial lake. The area encompassed 80 ha. A number of jokes about the megalomania of the emperor circulated in Rome .
The previous palace, the Domus Transitoria, was still under construction when the great fire of Rome in AD 64 destroyed it.
After the fire in the Domus Aurea in the year 104 AD, the interiors, columns and sculptures were taken away and reused elsewhere. The palace was filled with soil to create a foundation for the Baths of Trajan. The Colosseum was set up on the place of the lake.
Today, only the part of the palace which was used as an entertainment area, is preserved. Most of the wall paintings were created by the Roman painter Fabullus. You still can see some fragments today.
The dome of the dining hall (one suspects at least that it was a dining hall) was made of unreinforced solid concrete. The dome was the largest of its time, until it was surpassed by the dome of the Pantheon. The dome rested on an octagon. On the south side, the room offered a clear view of the lake and the garden. From the north side, an artificial waterfall splashed through the room.
Many areas were covered with marble, of which nothing remains. The private rooms were gilded, hence the name Domus Aurea.
This caused a vaulted passage to collapse in 2010.
The height of the rooms and the dimensions of the halls were nearly unbelievable. The remains of the mural paintings conveyed at least an impression how it may have looked like originally.
It is still open up to 28.12. 2014. Afterwards the Domus Aurea ill be closed until 2018.

Danach erst wieder 2018.

Places to see in ( Brindisi - Italy )
Places to see in ( Brindisi - Italy )
Brindisi is a port city on the Adriatic Sea, in southern Italy’s Apulia region. The red-stone Aragonese Castle stands on a small island at the harbor’s entrance. The tall Monumento al Marinaio d’Italia, a rudder-shaped limestone memorial to sailors, has sea and city views. Across the harbor, the Swabian Castle of Brindisi dates from the 13th century. At the top of Virgil’s Staircase are the Roman Columns.
Like all ports, Brindisi has its seamy side, but it's also surprisingly slow paced and balmy, particularly along the palm-lined Corso Garibaldi, which links the port to the train station, and the promenade stretching along the interesting lungomare (seafront).
The town was the end of the ancient Roman road Via Appia, down whose length trudged weary legionnaires and pilgrims, crusaders and traders, all heading to Greece and the Near East. These days little has changed except that Brindisi's pilgrims are now sun-seekers rather than soul-seekers.
Brindisi has een known as the «Gateway to the East» since ancient times, when it became an important port, first for the Roman troops, and later for the merchants of Venice. This port in Apulia even today provides important travel connections to and from a long list of sea and airports.
The shoreline is low and sandy for the whole stretch of coast, favored by a mild climate. Charming vacation destinations, along with one of the major natural areas of the region and an important spa, attract tourism to Brindisi's coastal strip, with many important traces left from ancient times.
Much of the hinterland is occupied by the Murge Platueau that, in the north, meets the Itria Valley, known as the Land of the Trulli. Cultivated fields alternate, in a mosaic of colors, with large expanses of olive groves, vineyards and colorful orchards, interrupted only by roads and sporadic clearings. Ancient villages dominated by fortresses and watchtowers tell the story of Frederick II of Swabia and the Angevin domination, but even more ancient testimonies relate the presence of the prehistoric Messapian Civilization.
( Brindisi - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Brindisi . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Brindisi - Italy

Altidona - Fermo - Marche - Italy
There is proof that the territory of Altidona was inhabited since Paleolithic times. During Roman times various villas with sea views could be found like the Barbula one named after a well known Palmense wine producer.
In the Middle Ages the Farfensi monks and the Benedictine ones from Monte
Cassino founded churches and castles here. In the XII century the scattered settlements were abandoned and the inhabitants gave life to a new castle around the parish of Santa Maria and San Ciriaco which was transferred onto the hill of the present town. From its origins it is listed as being under Fermo as a second class castle.
