SUBSCRIBE: - Historic Castletown, Isle of Man. Castletown (Manx: Balley Chashtal) is a town lying at the south of the island, it was the Manx capital until 1869. The centre of town is dominated by Castle Rushen, a well-preserved medieval castle, originally built for a Viking king.
The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown dependency in the Irish Sea between England and Ireland. It’s known for its rugged coastline, medieval castles and rural landscape, rising to a mountainous center. In the capital, Douglas, the Manx Museum traces the island’s Celtic and Viking heritage. The Isle of Man TT is a major annual cross-country motorcycle race around the island.

An intense special service on the Isle of Man Railway's as part of the four day Rush Hour event during Saturday 30 March 2013. Filmed on a iPhone camera - apologies for the poor camera work as I am not the best with a video camera and probably broke every 'rule' of videoing in the book, but just enjoy the trains....
Isle of Man Steam Railway (Douglas to Castletown)
The wonderful steam railway on the Isle of Man. This is an edited journey from Douglas to Castletown. This was part of a holiday and thanks to my friend Mark Davies for allowing me to use his footage.
Castletown & Port St Mary
Castletown, once the islands capital is situated about 9 miles south of Douglas. It is here where trains presently cross, exchanging tokens to run the single track railway between Douglas and Port Erin. Here on Saturday 22nd July 2017 we see running bunker first with plenty of steam No 10 G H Wood arriving with the 1745 from Port Erin. She is seen waiting for No12 Hutchinson to arrive with the 1807 to Port Erin. The clip continues with Hutchinson departing from Castletown. After a swift (and legal) drive she is once again recorded rounding the curve running into Post St Mary station amid the sound of cows in the adjacent field.

Name Origin: Sir Walter Scott's Novel Peveril of the Peak
Originating from 1894 and named after a character in a novel by Sir Walter Scott, popular at the time, this locomotive was for many years based on the Ramsey Line of the railway and indeed remained in service until the Marquess of Ailsa revival in 1967. She carries a unique, 2'11 diameter, 160psi boiler, which gives her the same theoretical power output as the medium boiler locomotives, but in reality she was inclined to run short of steam on heavy trains. She was purchased by a preservationist group in 1978 with a view to complete restoration and in 1988 the boiler was lifted from the frames and sent to the workshops of the Severn Valley Railway for re-construction. This was a long-term project and as relationships between the owners and management soured, the project did not reach fruition. Happily, the owners offered the boiler (now complete) to donor locomotive No. 1 Sutherland so that she could return to service for the Steam 125 celebrations in 1998 and after an agreed three years in No. 1 the boiler was lifted into No. 8 which operated as a member of the active fleet until early summer 2008. Being the sole representative of the smaller engines (No. 4 has been rebuilt to a medium configuration) she was often to be seen on lighter trains, specials and acting as station pilot. She operated in May 2010 on non-passenger duties as part of the annual Rush Hour event and since this time a long dispute has been settled and the locomotive returned to railway ownership in April 2012 seeing service once again for the Rush Hour event. No. 8 made a return to the site of Peel Station for display to commemorate the 140th anniversary of the Peel line on 1 July 2013, placed on a short length of display track next to the former water tower at the station.
