Powerhouse Arts Centre Casula, NSW, Australia
We have a look around at the old Powerhouse Station Casula.
Built in 1951 by the NSW Electricity Commission, the Casula Powerhouse (then known as the Liverpool Powerhouse), was one of a series of identical buildings erected to supplement electricity production during winter and power shortages. In 1955 the 250 foot stack was erected, replacing four shorter chimneys. Residents had complained that the smoke from the powerhouse dirtied their washing.
The Powerhouse was closed in 1976, and bought by Liverpool Council in 1978 for $75 000. The building became derelict over the following decade, and in 1985 the residents of Liverpool decided by plebiscite that the building should become an arts centre. By 1987 Council had appointed two staff members to oversee the first capital works program. Electricity was installed, building reviews carried out and an office space was furnished.
In 1993, while Mark Latham was Mayor of Liverpool, Casula Powerhouse, as it had then become known, was allocated funding in council budgets for the very first time. An ambitious development took place, and the centre opened its doors in 1994.
During the period between opening and June 2006, the Casula Powerhouse ran a busy program of exhibitions and events. Highlights include Shanghai Star, I Love Pho, Vietnam Voices and Cyber cultures.
After a 22 month closure, the Casula Powerhouse reopened on 5 April 2008 with significantly improved and new facilities. The centre now houses an international standard exhibition space, and a 326 seat state of the art theatre. The centre also boasts a multi-purpose theatre/performance space, artists' studios and artists' residency spaces 7 exhibition spaces. In addition, climate control has been installed in one gallery and a collection storage space, and a new office space.

Casula Parklands (Opening Day May 4, 2019) - Casula
Check out Opening Day at Casula Parklands, it is located along Powerhouse Road, just before you reach Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre. You need to program your GPS to the Art Centre as its not on your GPS maps yet.
The entrance is a little bit weird, as it seems like its in between 2 warehouses, lucky for us they had a large mobile sign out on the street. Great adventure playground in Liverpool right next to the Georges River, there’s a small playground for younger kids, climbing equipment and a huge Web/slide for older kids, a ninja exercise course for teenagers /adults, walking, biking and scooter track, large off-leash dog park, toilets, bubbler, and plenty of grassy picnic areas, no BBQ's as yet. Great Ninja exercise course, very modern and covers all parts of your body with detailed instructions. No food shops around so bring a picnic basket with you. There is limited shade and seems to be plenty of off street parking.

The 64th Blake Prize - Casula PowerHouse 2016 (Marsden Gallery)
The 64th Blake Prize challenges artists to investigate ideas, issues and engage audiences surrounding spiritual thought and religion.
From 2016 The Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre will deliver The Blake Prize as a biennial event into the future. Casula Powerhouse will maintain the guiding principles of The Blake Prize in continuing to engage contemporary artists, both national and international, in conversations concerning faith, spirituality, religion, hope, humanity, social justice, belief and non-belief. The Blake Prize is an aesthetic means of exploring the wider experience of spirituality and all this may entail with the visionary imagining of contemporary artists.
The Blake Prize takes its name from William Blake, as an artist of undoubted genius, seemed to belong to no school and succeeded in integrating religious and artistic content in his work. The Prize aims to encourage contemporary artists of disparate styles, religious and spiritual allegiances to create significant works of art which engage in relevant conversations and negotiations.
The 64th Blake Prize has three prize categories that challenge artists to investigate ideas, issues and engage audiences in conversations surrounding spiritual thought and religion in contemporary art. All the Blake Prize’s are strictly non-sectarian. The entries are not restricted to works related to any faith or any artistic style, but any work entered must have a recognisable religious or spiritual integrity.

Ghosts Of Casula #1
The Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre has only been around since the early 1950s, so why are there so many different reported hauntings -- a lot of which do not make sense?
In September 2012, Ashley Hall from The Paranormal Guide visited the Casula Powerhouse Arts Center for the first time. His experience there was quite profound, so much so, that he has teamed up with the Australian Paranormal Phenomena Investigators and The Spirit Level in order to face his fears and the ghosts of Casula.
