Sousse, Tunisia 2019 + Carthage, Sidi Bou Said and Tunis
Book accommodation in Sousse -
Sousse is the third largest city in Tunisia after Tunis and Sfax. Although Sousse is associated with olive oil manufacture and has other industries, tourism predominates today.
A medina, surrounded by its city walls and fortifications, is of historical interest. The medina includes open and covered bazaars (souks). Buildings of historical interest include the ribat castle, the central mosque, and a historical museum in the Casbah with mosaics from the area's many Roman villas. The Carthaginian catacombs can be visited.
UNESCO declared the medina of Sousse a World Heritage Site in 1988, citing among various things its preservation from modern development.
I also visited Carthage, Sidi Bou Said, Tunis, Monastir, and Hammamet. I loved every minute of Tunisie!

Archaeological Site of Carthage (UNESCO/NHK)
Carthage was founded in the 9th century B.C. on the Gulf of Tunis. From the 6th century onwards, it developed into a great trading empire covering much of the Mediterranean and was home to a brilliant civilization. In the course of the long Punic wars, Carthage occupied territories belonging to Rome, which finally destroyed its rival in 146 B.C. A second -- Roman -- Carthage was then established on the ruins of the first.

the city of Sousse conceals a sumptuous cultural heritage
From its 3000 years of history '
Sousse today retains testimonies of a rare splendor. For the visitor keen on antiquity, his archaeological museum (the second in the country after that of the Bardo) offers an edifying set of vestiges of the ancient Hadrumet. It owes above all its fame to the magnificent collection of Roman mosaics from the first four centuries of our era.
The underground galleries of the Catacombs, the Christian necropolis of the first centuries, are the other ancient archaeological site impossible to circumvent.

Port EL Kantaui,Sousse - Tunisia
Port El Kantaoui is a tourist complex 10 kilometres north of Sousse in central Tunisia. It was built in 1979 specifically as a tourist centre,[1] around a large artificial harbor which provides mooring with 340 berths for luxury yachts, hosting sporting activities from water skiing to paragliding, and several golf courses. The 36-hole PGA approved championship course makes Port El Kantaoui a popular destination for golfing.
The architecture, although modern and dazzlingly white, has been modelled on the more traditional buildings in Tunisia, complete with narrow streets and arches. The hotels that line the beachfront extend from Sousse itself along miles of sparkling clean sea to the harbour of Port El Kantaoui and to the north of the harbour.
In style, the port area Port El Kantaoui is designed as a white and blue Tunisian style village with reproduced medina and cobblestone streets. It is popular with package holiday visitors, families and first time visitors, however its extensive landscaping and detachment from the true Tunisia brings critics; most notably the Rough Guide has described Port El Kantaoui as Tunisia without tears ... artificial, soulless, even anaemic.[2]
Sousse (Arabic: سوسة Sūsa, Berber: Susa) is a city in Tunisia. Located 140 km south of the capital Tunis, the city has 173,047 inhabitants (2004). Sousse is in the central-east of the country, on the Gulf of Hammamet, which is a part of the Mediterranean Sea. The name may be of Berber origin: similar names are found in Libya and in the south of Morocco (Bilād al-Sūs). The city is the capital of Sousse Governorate with 540,000 inhabitants (2005 estimate). Its economy is based on transport equipment, processed food, olive oil, textiles and tourism. It is home to the Université de Sousse.
