Catatumbo Lightning - The Neverending Storm (A Short Film by Jonas Piontek)
The Catatumbo Lightning in Venezuela has captured me from the first moment I set foot in Ologa, the fishing village in the heart of Lake Maracaibo. What locals call the Relampago de Catatumbo is also known as the everlasting storm, raging on in up to 300 nights every year with intensities reaching multiple flashes every second at a time. Just 15 kilometers NW of the camp lies the one point on earth with the most lightning strikes, here up to 250/km2 are registered every year. The Catatumbo Lighting is not just a Guinness World Record holder but also has been immortalized in the flag of Zulia, where people proudly call it the Maracaibo Lighthouse after saving Maracaibo on multiple occasions from nighttime ambushes of foreign naval fleets. But Catatumbo is much more than just lightning, it's an overall crazy place filled with amazing people, incredible wildlife, beautiful flora and unbelievable light scenes on an almost daily base. All these things coming together have made me fall in love with this place and after visiting 3 times I feel a deep connection to the Maracaibo Lake - It has become my second home. A ferocious and unforgiving home but the best home I could possibly imagine. This film shows the highlights of those three trips, all in a very cinematic fashion. Some of the lightning videos are indeed the real time, but many others are slightly shortened in order to look the most impressive, but everything you see in here did actually happen and wasn't altered using any After Effects etc.

The Lightning Camp in the Heart of Venezuela's Maracaibo Lake is situated just few kilometers South of earth's (by far) most electric place where the Catatumbo Lightning happens. Storms rage for almost 300 nights every year and are fueled by a strong Caribbean Jetstream, more than 10.000 square kilometers of low lying water that heats up tremendously in the tropical sun and the cold wind that flows into the lake basin from the Andes, that are situated on three sides of Lake Maracaibo. The cold wind, however, starts mixing up the atmosphere and dynamic storms emerge almost every night, even more often from April to late-November.

Shooting the Everlasting Storm | That’s Amazing
Lake Maracaibo, Venezuela, is the unofficial lightning capital of the world. There, lightning strikes occur, on average, 300 days a year. When dangerous storms approach, most people flee. But 21-year-old Jonas Piontek does just the opposite. The German photographer stays put in the face of certain danger to capture amazing photographs of the electric storms.

Auyan Tepui // 12 Tage Trekkingtour / Venezuela

The Orinoco River Delta, Venezuela HD sound:MONOCAMPERS-3D Funk HD
Delta Orinoco camp
is located on the north eastern edge of the Delta Orinoco nature reserve which was established in 1991 in order to conserve the plants, animals and birds of this area.
The Orinoco River Delta is inhabited by the Warao Indians and the camp is designed and construction according to their customs. The sleeping huts are located in clearings in the jungle and have thatched roofs but no walls. Visitors sleep in intimate contact with the forest in beds or hammocks protected by mosquito nets.
After reaching the camp we’ll give you a brief tour of the facilities and then you have time to settle into your rooms before heading out for the day’s adventures. During your stay you can join in the following activities:
Canoe excursion in the Orinoco delta
Jungle walk: A native Warao guide will lead you on a walk through the dense jungle of the Orinoco Delta; and for those who have never penetrated virgin jungle before the experience is unforgettable. The tranquil silence is punctuated by the songs and calls of birds and the scary screeching of howler monkeys as you wander through a myriad of exotic plant life. Wellington boots are provided for all guests.
Canoe excursion: Warao means canoe people and there is no better way to explore the delta than a canoe. A native guide will take you up narrow backwaters tunnelling through the dense vegetation where other boats can’t go. Venturing deep into the jungle will give you unique glimpses of the delta fauna; including multihued exotic birds like the Toucan and Macaw, fresh water dolphins, multihued butterflies and howler and capuchin monkeys.
Buffalo Farm visit: An evening visit to a local farm where the dense rainforest meets the open swamp introduces you to the contrasting landscapes of the delta and opens up a view of a spectacular sunset. The Buffalo farm is populated by many interesting animals and horse riding can be arranged.
Night Safari;A favourite adventure for guests is a night-time canoe trip to spot crocodiles and water snakes, before or after dinner depending on the river water level.
Warao style private cabin
Your accommodation in the camp is in private cabins, Warao style, each with a wonderful view of the river, often garlanded with floating beds of bora, purple hyacinth. Sleeping is in single or double beds or in hammocks if you prefer. There are toilets, showers, and wash basins in the common house, as well as outlets to recharge batteries for your electronic and camera equipment. The groups and the boats that carry them are kept as small as possible to minimize our carbon footprint and to let you see more wildlife and enjoy more intimate contact with the local Indians.
We make a point of caring for all the fauna and flora. Many of the animals and birds in the camp have been raised from infancy and treat the camp as their home.
The Warao Indians still live in their traditional rain forest culture that has existed for thousands of years. For visitors coming from a modern consumer society meeting them is an extraordinary experience which can stimulate and enhance your appreciation of life.

Venezuela: 3 Colombian Paramilitary Leaders Arrested
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has confirmed the capture of three leaders of paramilitary organizations inside Venezuela. The arrests came as part of the operations underway to secure the country’s border with Colombia. Maduro accused the paramilitaries and their backers, such as ex Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, of being behind the massive smuggling of subsidized food, fuel and medicine out of Venezuela to sell it at a higher price. On Wednesday ministers of both the Venezuelan and Colombian governments met to discuss how to fight crime along their border. teleSUR

HEROES (english version)
They are heroes they follow the flow of time - they are rich – they own nothing at all – they’re born in the shadow of Auyan Tepui - where life stops - from dusk till dawn
a hidden path we follow – into a secret world - observed by frozen creatures – immortalized in stone - pre-historic nature – alive for million years - time journey - to a long forgotten world - For the blink of an eye - I see the world through different eyes
They are heros they follow the flow of time - they are rich – they own nothing at all – they’re born in the shadow of Auyan Tepui - where life stops - from dusk till dawn - Oh-oh-oh-oh / Oh-oh-oh-oh
Kerepacupai Vena – waterfall of the deepest place - setting out our dugout (canoe) – long ride to wonderland - built at age Gondwana – pure nature at its best - time journey – to an old endemic world - For the blink of an eye - I see the world through different eyes
They are heros they follow the flow of time - they are rich – they own nothing at all – they’re born in the shadow of Auyan Tepui - where life stops - from dusk till dawn - Oh-oh-oh-oh / Oh-oh-oh-oh
HELDEN (deutsche Version)
