NCBeerBuzz - Catawba Brewing Company, Morganton
This episode of the NCBeerBuzz finds the NCBeerGuys in Morganton visiting with Billy Pyatt at Catawba Brewing Company. The brewery is located at 212 S Green St in Morganton and was founded by Billy and his brother Scott in a former furniture factory in Glen Alpine, and later relocated to Morganton. Catawba's Red Ale is an original recipe from Billy's home brew days and the first keg was sold in 1999. Catawba is a live music venue with a nice stage and sound system! In 2010, Catawba decided to can their most popular beers - White Zombie, Farmer Ted, and Firewater. Kevin Sondey joined Catawba as the Head Brewer in 2013 and a rebranding effort that same year lead to new can labels and Kevin's first beer release in their first canned seasonal - Winterbolt Winter Ale!

Deschutes Brewery Looking at Asheville Area
ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- One of the 10 biggest craft breweries in America considers expanding near Asheville.
Deschutes Brewery, out of Oregon, has already visited here twice.
The Brewery's president Michael LaLonde says one of the sites he looked at was a 137 acre property near Bent Creek, which the Buncombe County government recently purchased.
The brewery is also considering locations in three other states.
Kevin Parker spent the evening hiking near the Blue Ridge Parkway. He loves to get away, like the time he moved to Bend, OR.
I was down on the Deschutes working as a fishing guide down there, really lovely area, said Parker.
Right on the Deschutes River in Bend, you can find the seventh largest craft brewery in the country.
I've had a couple of their beers, I enjoyed them. I can't remember off the top of my head, which ones, but I definitely enjoyed some Deschutes brews, said Parker.
Deschutes is intrigued with Asheville, because of the beauty and the beer.
With Sierra Nevada up and running and New Belgium on the way, there's a precedent for bigger breweries from out west moving to Asheville.
LaLonde says he's looking for a place similar to Bend. He says he won't just pick a city, because it offers the most money. He says they care more about the city's quality of life.
It's the biggest factor, we want a place where our employees who live in Bend can be really interested in moving to a second location where we can make sure that the culture we've developed as a company can be replicated to a certain extent, LaLonde said.
LaLonde says he's returning to Asheville in late May. They plan to open their brewery in 2019.

Episode #215 - Blowing Rock Brewing - Legacy Series
Today we are drinking three beers out of the Blowing Rock Brewing Company of Blowing Rock. Their Legacy series offers us their flagship brews, three of which we are sampling today - the Blowing Rock High Country Ale, the Blowing Rock IPA and the Blowing Rock Mountain Shadow Black IPA. Blowing Rock Brewing Company began with a single idea — to create beer that captured the finest qualities of the High Country. They believe in the clean mountain water, unique ingredients, and local community. In 2013, Blowing Rock Brewing Company opened their first brewery in the heart of historic Blowing Rock and their brews are now being distributed to retailers and restaurants statewide in six-pack cans, kegs and growers. In 2014, they opened an additional state-of-the-art brewery in Hickory, which will offer 6,000 renovated square feet of brewery and restaurant space.
