Places to see in ( Keswick - UK ) Catbells Lakeland Walk
Catbells Lakeland Walk is a short, sharp, steep climb richly rewarded by the views of mountains and lakes. On its own this short walk could be gently ambled along to make the most of a clear day. An afternoon, or summer evening brisk stroll would delight too. Go around anti-clockwise as we suggest here, the scrambly bits are easier in ascent, and the steps off the ridge whilst tedious get you down quickly and without difficulty. The small car parking area near Hawse End gets quite busy and people park on the roads nearby, please respect local residence and double yellow lines.
Catbells Lakeland Walk takes you to the top of the following hills: Catbells; and includes 1 Wainwright and 1 Birkett. At the start of the small parking area near Hawse End follow the signpost to Cat Bells 1 mile. This narrow path of Catbells climbs across the hillside round to the north ridge. Bear right onto steep zigzags heading straight up the nose of the ridge. The first scrambly bit comes as you reach the memorial stone. Here the easiest way up is a path to the left of this face.
Decided on catbells as a starter walk. All ages walking up. Couple of testing areas If you haven't done lots of walking but a great practice for 26mile mcmillan hike. Catbells is the reason we come back to The Lakes, year upon year. As you drop down into Keswick on the road from Ambleside, the Lake comes into view and there is Catbells .

Hike up catbells in Keswick United Kingdom
This is a quick video of our hike up to catbells. It's a pretty easy hike, with a little bit of scrambling on the trail. Do it!
Great walks: Catbells
A BMC TV production with Mary-Ann Ochota, supported by Marmot.
Getting kids into the hills could be easier than you think. This walk ticks all the child-friendly boxes; a fun boat ride across Derwentwater, a lakeside woodland stroll and a spectacular climb of Catbells, a true mini-mountain for mini-mountaineers.

Bertie Visits... Keswick - Day 2: Cat Bells
So day 2 of our weekend and we attempt Cat Bells, the biggest clibm Bertie has done to date.
We took the tougher of the two routes up which saw us scrambling a little at times but nothing overly challenging even for Bertie. A good selection of treats and several short breaks were needed (as you would expect for a four year old!) but manage it he did.
Fantastic views from the top where we stayed a short while before going back down the easier route and down in the direction of Derwent Water taking the lower route back to the car park.
This walk clocked in at just over 4 miles, a little further than I thought but that's mainly down to all the zig zagging involved in the climb up.
A map of this walk can be found here:
Lake District Country Walk - Keswick-Walla Crag-Derwent Water round.
Our video is a guided walk in the Lake District, Cumbria. We start from Keswick up to Walla Crag and return by Cat Gill and Derwent Water. The descent from Walla Crag down Cat Gill is very steep. The views of the Derwent Water and the surrounding fells are beautiful.

Julia Bradbury follows the Wainwright Walks on Catbells
This was part of the first series of walking programmes with Julia produced by Skyworks for BBC4. It was deemed as one of the most successful of its time. Crossed Derwentwater on the boat and then began the ascent up the gentle path. It initially heads up through woodland then the path splits in two. This walk follows the route up the north breast of the fell, taking the engineered zigzags. The path then is interrupted by a short scramble before reaching a plateau. From here you walk up the distinctive ridge for which Catbells is famous for… One last climb then leads you to the exposed summit. A personalised dvd with the full programme can be bought on

A Walk Up Catbells Keswick In The Lake District Cumbria
In this video we take a walk up Catbells overlooking Derwenwater near Keswick in the beautiful Lake District.
The music used in this video is Run Like The Wind sung by Barbara Dickson. As I don't own the rights for this song, any money made from this video goes to the giant Sony corporation who obviously need it more than me. I could have replaced it with some royalty free music, but I thought the music went well with the images. I hope you enjoy it.

Catbells (1481 feet) on the shore of Derwentwater and one of the most popular fells in the Keswick region.
Alfred Wainwright described it as a truly lovely walk, an understatement in my humble opinion.

Keswick, Hope park, walk along by Derwentwater and up to Castlehead.
Hope park has attractive landscaped grounds with a stream, garden and woodland walk. It has developed considerably since 1925 when the land was used for grazing the railway coach-horses. Sir Percy Hope owned the land and began developing it into a miniature golf course. It was opened on 27th May 1927.
Castlehead stands at 250ft. An impressive view can be seen down the length of Derwentwater towards Borrowdale and the highest mountains in england.
