Cathedral Quarry, Little Langdale, Cumbria, England - 10th March, 2014
This film features footage within the Cathedral quarries, which are a small network of inter-linked quarries above Little Langdale, in the Lake District National Park, Cumbria, England.
The main chamber of the quarries stands forty feet in height, and is lit by two windows off the main quarry. They are frequently referred to as Cathedral Cave.
The film begins at one end of the quarry, and ends at the other side near Tilberthwaite, having gone through two tunnels.
Hodge Close to Cathedral Cavern in Little Langdale
Not diving itself but I thought I would post this short video showing the route from Hodge close to Cathedral cavern, the two main caverns at Cathedral & the tunnels in case any divers fancied a visit during their surface interval. It is a 30 minute walk to main entrance from Hodge Close, then have a bit of an explore & 20 minutes back to Hodge from the 2nd entrance. You will need a torch & waterproof footwear. PS I've just watched Snow White & the Huntsman and the Dwarfs cave is Cathedral

LAKE DISTRICT - HODGE CLOSE - QUARRY - CATHEDRAL CAVERN - AND - SLATERS BRIDGE - EXPLORING - WALKING
So this is bank holiday weekend in the Lake District. Me and Mrs Wasdale together with Grandad Keith decided to head for the hidden gem Hodge Close and it's almost deserted car park. This was a very relaxing walk designed to bring back a few great memories from Hodge Close above and bellow. From here we headed to cathedral cavern, one place that the weather struggles to spoil. Then on to the ancient foot bridge that brings the whole walk together, the Slaters Bridge. I hope you enjoy the video and the footage from seven years ago, before HD and widescreen.
Regards
Wasdale Man

Lake District Guided Walks: Little Langdale | Cathedral Quarry | Hodge Close
Little Langdale is a stunning valley just west of Ambleside and north of Coniston. It is surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery rising on all sides around Little Langdale Tarn.
This is a guided walk showing the route to Little Langdale Tarn and over the beautiful 16th Century Slater Bridge to Cathedral Quarry. Sometimes known as Cathedral Cave the quarry is a vast open chasm with a cathedral like feel inside.
The route follows a track to Hodge Close and takes in the dramatic open quarry which plunges over 100ft into icy dark waters.

Cathedral Cave - Lake District
HI All,
It has been a while since I have been out so we decided to head to the Lakes. We went to Cathedral Cave again, and had a blast at the rope swing! The camera overlay was made by myself, and the shutter sound is from the actual camera!
It was a fun day to be out and just enjoy ourselves, the weather was kind too!
I was so happy to be out again and had a good few selfies taken.
Its good to be back.
Enjoy.

Disused Inter-linked Quarries | A Lake District Walk | Cathedral Cave | Hodge Close Quarry
Little Langdale has been heavily mined and quarried over the last several hundred years particularly for copper and slate although there is little activity there at present. Workings in the vicinity include the extensive slate quarries at Hodge Close, Tilberthwaite and the mines on the southern slopes of Wetherlam. A nearby mine at Hawk Rigg possibly dates from the Elizabethan era and it was reported in 1709 that iron ore was mined in the area. Slate mining particularly boomed in the area in the Victorian Era after the introduction of compressed air drills for making the blast holes, and continued until the introduction of high quality bricks for building.
Cathedral Quarries (Grid NY308028), a set of disused inter-linked quarries for green slate, is above the valley in Atkinson Coppice. The quarry site is now managed by the National Trust and can be entered by the public. It features various chambers and tunnels, including one which is 400 feet (120 m) long. The quarry's main attraction, 'The Cathedral', is a high main chamber 40 feet (12 metres) high, lit by two windows with a huge rock pillar supporting the roof. Some of the quarry smaller chambers are closed off for safety or have already collapsed. The quarry features at least 25 named rock-climbing routes that are graded Extreme and are 30–40 m long.

The video describes and explains some of the main cave features and the commentary may assist teachers when using it as a classroom resource.

Lake District - The Langdales - Chapel Stile-Little Langdale Tarn-Skelwith Bridge-Elterwater round.
This is a video of a guided walk in Lake District. We start our walk from Chapel Stile in Great Langdale and walk to Little Langdale Tarn and Colwith Force in Little Langdale. We then walk on to Skelwith Bridge and Skelwith Force at the head of the two valleys then on to Elterwater and back to Chapel stile in Great Langdale. We did this walk on rather a rainy day so the waterfalls were spectacular with their thunderous white water spilling into the swollen River Brathay,
