Cathedral Rock National Park, in the New England Tablelands, is great bushwalking and rock-climbing territory, and offers peaceful camping and myriad opportunities for photography. The Cathedral Rocks park is mainly made up of dry eucalypt forests with occasional Heathlands. In spring, the flannel Flowers blanket whole areas and the other wildflowers. Beautiful Australian wilderness.

Cathedral Rock | NSW Australia
The day started early with a 4:30 am wake up as the sound of my alarm cut through the cold morning air. We were camping in the Barokee Campground around a 1 hour hike from the top of the boulders of Cathedral Rock.
With a quick breakfast filling our bellies, we packed a few snacks, filled our water bottles and then set out in the pitch black. Using the lights of our phones to light the way we began the hike to the top with our fingers crossed for a spectacular sunrise.

Our adventure in the National Parks of New England Highlands Australia! Ebor Falls, Cathedral Rock

We begin our adventure in Glen Innes, from their when traveled north east (50mins, 64km) to our first stop know as Raspberry Lookout. A short drive from the main road will bring you right to the edge of a magnificent lookout, so breath taking we poped back in on the way home for a view at sunset!
Next stop was suppose to be boundary falls but due to wet weather the road in was closed so we continued on to Granites trail. (12min 12km) This was an easy walk through bushland, speckled with huge boulders and rock formations, finishing in beautiful views!
On we went to our next stop ( a fav for the day! ) Washpool walk (11min 4km). Here there were a number of tracks we could choose from. Due to it getting late we took a shorter track known as Coombadjha walk which was a perfect choice because what we discovered on this track was a stunning array of ferns, mushrooms, mosses, trees and wildlife, like walking through a secret garden! When we thought it couldn't get any better we hear a faint trickle of water, growing louder and louder. Soon we came across a little staircase peeking out on a crystal clear pool. It was so relaxing to sit upon and taking in the peaceful serenity. The girls loved exploring, hopping along the rocks, peeking though the ferns and feeling the cool water flow as they dipped their fingers in the stream. One day we will return to take the trek to Washpool falls!! but for now we had to return back to camp, with a quick stop in at raspberry lookout to catch a breathtaking view as the sun set.
The next morning we set our sights south! Travelling from Glen Innes to Cathedral Rock National Park. First stop was Ebor, home to Ebor Falls ( 2hrs 174km). These magnificent falls are located close to town with about a 2min walk (2secs for excited kids) from the car park. (very accessible to all ). But we like to take the long route haha so we took a stroll along path skirting the falls and river system to see what else we could discover.
Our last and most ambitious stop was the Cathedral Rock National Park Loop walk. ( 20mins 14km) We began at Barokee campgrounds and hiked 2.2km to the start of the climb. Due to it being a grade 5 summit climb only Daddy climbed all the way to the top. ( although we were happy for the rest haha was about a 2hour up hill hike to get this far! ) Luckily the walk back was all down hill so only took about an hour return. It was well worth the effort as the track had ever changing scenery, a range of different plant clusters and so many different species of birds!

Barokee Campground Cathedral Rock National Park
This camping area offers undesignated sites in amongst beautiful native foliage (approximately 10 sites). There are firepits and firewood is supplied at most times. This area is suitable for small camptes only as the road is narrow and windy. This area is stunning and there are 3 medium length walks from here.

Ebor Falls
Ebor Falls is a tiered waterfall on the Guy Fawkes River, located near Ebor and about 37 kilometres (23 mi) north-east of Wollomombi on Waterfall Way in the New England region of New South Wales, Australia.
The first lookout is on a sealed road, approximately 200 metres (660 ft) off the Waterfall Way. This viewing platform shows the upper falls tumbling 115 metres (377 ft) over 4 layers of columned basalt rock in two falls. The lower Ebor falls, 600 metres (2,000 ft) further on, plunge over Permian sedimentary rocks into a steep forested gorge below.[1]
The falls are a well known tourist attraction within Guy Fawkes River National Park, with viewing platforms of the falls and walking tracks, a rest area with barbecues, an information display, picnic tables and toilet. In 2008 the waterfalls were attracting up to 80,000 visitors each year.[2] Camping is not permitted at Ebor Falls, however camping is available at nearby Cathedral Rock National Park.
The falls were first protected in a recreation reserve in 1895.[2] In September 2008 new lookout platforms were opened. These replaced platforms that were destroyed by fire in 2007.

Native Dog Campground is in Cathedral Rock National Park. There are no designated sites and plenty of room for groups. This campground is set in between beautiful trees and large boulders and there area several walks for a stroll. Native Dog creek is also a short walk from the campground. There are fire pits and fire grills. Free fire wood may be available.
