MOSCOW - Kremlin and Cathedral Square
The name Kremlin means fortress inside a city.
The Moscow Kremlin is a fortified complex at the heart of Moscow, overlooking the Moskva River to the south, Saint Basil's Cathedral and Red Square to the east, and the Alexander Garden to the west. It is the best known of the kremlins and includes five palaces, four cathedrals, and the enclosing Kremlin Wall with Kremlin towers. Also within this complex is the Grand Kremlin Palace that was formerly the tsar's Moscow residence. The complex now serves as the official residence of the President of the Russian Federation and as a museum.
Cathedral Square is the central square of the Moscow Kremlin where all of its streets used to converge in the 15th century.
The square owes its name to the three cathedrals facing it - Cathedral of the Dormition, Cathedral of the Archangel, and Cathedral of the Annunciation. Apart from these, the Palace of Facets, the Church of the Deposition of the Robe and the Church of the Twelve Apostles are placed there. The tallest structure on the square (and formerly in all of Russia) is Ivan the Great Bell Tower.

MOSCOW KREMLIN: How BEST to Visit! | Armoury, Cathedral Square & St. Basil's Cathedral
On our third full day, Katie and I visited the Moscow Kremlin and we've figured out the BEST way to visit, skipping as many lines as you can and enjoying the fewest crowds!
The Kremlin, Red Square & St. Basil's Cathedral are all hugely popular and busy, so it's best to strategize a bit for the perfect pictures and to avoid crowds. Within the Kremlin, you'll be visiting Cathedral Square and the Armoury and possibly even the Diamond Fund. Pre-buying tickets is a huge advantage, so you can avoid some of the morning lines and not have to arrive super early.
You'll also have to arrive very early to Lenin's Mausoleum red square if you want to see it and not wait for hours in line.
Watch closely and we'll show you the best way to visit -- be sure to subscribe for the videos to come! Lots of amazing sights to see, we LOVED Moscow and Russia overall.

Saint Basil's Cathedral Moscow Red Square Full Tour Inside
Here is a full tour inside the famous Russian orthodox church.
St. Basil's Cathedral, Moscow (Russia) - Travel Guide
Take a tour of St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, Russian Federation -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
It looks more like a cluster of brightly colored hot air balloons than a cathedral.
This is St. Basil's, or the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Virgin By the Moat.
This flamboyantly shaped and colored building is one of Russia's most important churches.
The cathedral was started in 1555 as eight chapels built around a larger ninth.
There have been several theories about the design of St. Basil's, but no certain answers.
The cathedral has had several additions, and the whole church narrowly escaped destruction under Stalin.
St. Basil's is no longer a church, it now operates as a museum.

LIVE: Kremlin Christmas tree arrives in Cathedral Square
Russia's biggest Christmas tree is due for delivery through the Spassky Gates into the Kremlin's Cathedral Square in Moscow on December 18.
This time Red Square will be decorated by a 110-year-old tree that’s 30 metres tall and 60 centimetres in diameter. It was cut down on December 16 in the Dmitrov district.
This year will be the first time that designers, and not office staff, will dress the Kremlin Christmas tree. The winning design was chosen in a competition. The tree will be decorated with 3,600 baubles of different sizes, 1,500 metres of garlands and 4,500 LED lights. The upper part of the tree will be dressed up in white-golden colours, the medium part – in blue and gold, the lower – in red and gold, so it reflects the colours of the Russian tricolor.

Kremlin Cathedral Square Moscow Overview
Кроме того, на Соборную площадь выходит вocтoчный фacaд 3oлoтoй Цapицынoй пaлaты и цepкoвь Pизoпoлoжeния — дoмoвoй xpaм мocкoвcкиx митрополитoв и пaтpиapxoв.
KREMLIN MOSCOW | CATHEDRAL SQUARE | रूस
I visited Kremlin which is located in the Red Square ,the heart of Moscow. The Kremlin is a fortified complex enclosed by iconic red walls and 20 towers. Inside there are five palaces, four cathedrals and an enclosing wall. The Grand Kremlin Palace is also located inside, which is the official residence of Russia’s president…like The White House.
1) For visiting the architectural ensemble of the Cathedral Square (center of the Kremlin) which includes most palaces and churches – 700 rubles.
2) For visiting the Armory Chamber – 1000 rubles.
For more information, visit – it’s available in English.
How To Get Tickets Inside:
Depending on what parts of the Kremlin you want to see, there are separate tickets to purchase.
There is 1 ticket to purchase for The Armoury and another for Cathedral Square.
The Diamond Fund (located in the Armoury) has a separate ticket too. The Diamond Fund can be purchased at the door the day of your visit.
1.) I recommend purchasing your tickets online at least 2 weeks in advance. Waiting in line the day of is a risky business!
You’ll likely wait for a couple hours, and there’s no guarantee you’ll actually get a ticket (especially to The Armoury) because these tickets can “sell out.”
Even 1 week before the ticket for The Armoury Chamber was not available online. The Armoury Chamber has limited capacity.Thats why they allow only certain no of tourist inside.
2.) Even if you purchased your tickets online ahead of time does not mean you don’t
have to wait in line. you will have to take your printed voucher and wait in the ticket
line to get your actual ticket inside to either the Armoury or Cathedral Square.
I recommend going early because this line is LONG.
Fortunately in my case the queue was less.
I only visited Cathedral Square.
Get an audio guide from information counter during your visit to Cathedral Square and TheArmoury.
(the audio guides are free and only require a deposit to make sure you return them).
