OMSK - St. Nicolas Cossack Cathedral
St. Nicolas Cossack Cathedral designed by a great Russian architect V. Stasov was built in 1840. It used to contain the main relic of Siberian Cossacks — the legendary standard of Yermak troops, which had been produced by the masters of the Kremlin Armory for the Moscow Streltsy regiment in 1690 and thus became a symbol of Siberian Cossacks in the 18th century. In 1882 it was brought to Omsk from Berezov town, but it disappeared without leaving a trace during the years of civil war. It’s believed that in the year of 1918 the relic was stolen by Ataman Annenkov’s troops. Currently a copy of the lost standard is located in the cathedral.

Travel Russia - Visiting Suzdal Cathedral of Nativity
Take a tour of Suzdal Cathedral of Nativity in Suzdal, Russian Federation -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The inclement climate of Russia has not deterred the faith or architectural prowess of its citizens.
An amazing house of worship is the Suzdal Cathedral of Nativity in Suzdal, Russian north of Moscow.
The cathedral breaks the sky with five colorful domes, each with a cross-shaped spire.
The clean white exterior belies the church's 11th century origins.
The cathedral has seen hardships, including several fires, but has survived through the centuries.
The interior has many frescoes of great artistic skill depicting the Virgin Mary and a newborn Jesus.
Suzdal's Nativity Cathedral is a lasting monument to God as well as to Russian medieval structural design.

Хр. Христа́ Спаси́теля - Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, Kurtarıcı İsa Katedrali
Christ the Saviour Cathedral was built in gratitude for God's intercession in the critical period of Russian history as a monument to the courage of Russian people against the Napoleonic invasion of 1812. December 25, 1812, when the last soldier 600000th of Napoleon's army was driven out of Russia, Emperor Alexander I, in honor of the victory of Russian army and in gratitude to God, has signed the manifesto of the highest building in Moscow in the name of the Church of Christ the Saviour, and issued a Decree of the Supreme Holy Synod of the establishment of the festivities on December 25, in commemoration of deliverance of the Church and the Russian state from the invasion of the Gauls, and with them dvadesyati language. As conceived by the emperor in the ancient capital, while lying in ruins, had to get up a grand memorial church, the main idea of which was set out very clear words of the king's Manifesto: The preservation of the eternal memory of that unprecedented effort, loyalty and love for Faith and Fatherland, What in these difficult times extolled the Russian people themselves, and to mark our gratitude to Divine Providence for saving Russia from threatening her death, we set out to our capital city of Moscow to create a church of Christ the Saviour ...
The Moscow Going Home Guarantee! (7 Days in Russia)

Russians have endured much over the centuries—weather extremes, ruthless dictators, pointless invasions, civil revolutions, and such. As a consequence, they have become ingeniously self-reliant and confident they can weather any storm (figuratively).
By contrast, a wimp like myself, is intimidated traveling around a country like Russia. The Cyrillic language is like Greek hieroglyphics on steroids, the spoken word, spoken at normal speed, is impossible to understand, and the normal body language (to Russians) used for a word as simple as good bye (pronounced dos-vi-dan-iya, and spelled до свидания in Cyrillic) is intimidating.
Against all these odds, and the fact I had already gotten terribly lost in each of my first two days wandering around Moscow, my friend Gennadii Kuznetsov, who I met on my first trip, convinced me my trip back to my Hotel was a piece of cake (no Russian translation)
We video-taped his confident instructions. He agreed that they could only be played to Americans if I got lost. He guaranteed I would return to my hotel tout de suite (15-20 minutes). He was close. Three hours and 1,200 rubles lighter, I stumbled into my hotel at the Olympic Center.
Enjoy the video!

Wow! A church made out of snow is fully functional
A tiny snow Orthodox church was built in Omsk region of Russia's southwestern Siberia.
Everything in the three-square- meter construction looks real and local churchgoers can pray there. The church was built for one and a half months by a man named Alexander.

Russian Orthodox Cathedral
The Russian Orthodox Cathedral also known as the Nativity of Christ Cathedral was designed with the Byzantine style in mind. It was designed by R. Pflug and constructed between 1876 and 1884. It has five domes and there is a bell tower above the main entrance. It was turned into a planetarium during the soviet era. The interior needed to be renovated and rebuilt after the destruction by the Soviets during World War II. Every day of the week one will find large numbers of Riga's Russian speakers under its arches, lighting the traditional long Eastern Orthodox candles. Its Neo-Byzantine exterior is matched on the inside with icons traditional of Orthodox cathedrals, some of which are painted by Vasili Vereshchagin.

St Issac's Cathedral - St Petersburg, Russia
Summer 2008 Baltic vacation. The opening section contains a panorama of the cathedral exterior and an up-close of one of the many monuments to Catherine the Great. This architecture is stunning! St. Isaac's Cathedral was originally the city's main church and the largest cathedral in Russia. It was built between 1818 and 1858, by the French-born architect Auguste Montferrand, to be one of the most impressive landmarks of the Russian Imperial capital. One hundred and eighty years later the gilded dome of St. Isaac's still dominates the skyline of St. Petersburg. Although the cathedral is considerably smaller than the newly rebuilt Church of Christ the Savior in Moscow, it boasts much more impressive facades and interiors.
The cathedral's facades are decorated with sculptures and massive granite columns (made of single pieces of red granite), while the interior is adorned with incredibly detailed mosaic icons, paintings and columns made of malachite and lapis lazuli. A large, brightly colored stained glass window of the Resurrected Christ occupies a prominent place inside at the main altar. The church, designed to accommodate 14,000 standing worshipers, was closed in the early 1930s and then reopened as a museum. Today, church services are held here only on major ecclesiastical occasions.
