Georgian Orthodox Church Celebrates Easter
Georgian Orthodox Church Celebrates Easter
2011-04-24
Today is Easter -- the central religious holiday in the Christian liturgical year. According to Christian scripture, Jesus Christ was resurrected from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion on Easter Sunday.
This year Catholic and Orthodox Easter coincided to be marked on April 24, and this made the holiday a bigger celebration. The Divine Liturgy came to an end in all acting churches several hours ago.
Festive liturgies on this occasion were held at all active churches across Georgia last night. The divine church service began at Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral at 11 PM and was conducted by Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II. The Easter Epistle of the Patriarch was then read out.
The believers were celebrating Easter during the whole night. The Holy Fire that came down from Christ's Sepulture in Jerusalem, was brought to Tbilisi late last night.
The believers were expecting for it at the Tbilisi International Airport during several hours. The fire was first delivered to the Sameba Cathedral and then was distributed among all churches from where people could take it home and try to keep it lit during the whole year.
The Easter put an end to a 40-day Great Lent. A door of paradise was opened for humans with the Christ's Resurrection.

Orthodox Christendom marks the Day of Transfiguration of Jesus today, August 19.
Catholic Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II will deliver a divine Liturgy at Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral in Tbilisi.
The Gospels state that - Once at the top of a mountain Jesus became transfigured, his face shining like the sun, and his clothes a brilliant white; a bright cloud appeared overhead, and a voice from Heaven proclaimed, 'This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased'.
Transfiguration Day of Jesus is one of the twelve Great Feasts of the Orthodox Church. Traditionally, fruit is brought to church to be blessed on this day.

I know that today's world is awaiting from us the word of life, since today's human being is in desperate need of a cure that only the witness of those who were risen from the dead with their Lord can give. This is what our forefathers accomplished before us, as they transmitted our living tradition to the language of their time, and so we must do today.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written
language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through
audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio
