Blue Mountains Walks: The Cathedral Reserve Mt Wilson NSW Australia
PLEASE SUBSCRIBE!
The Cathedral Reserve is located at the eastern end of Mt Wilson. A large area has been set aside here for picnics, barbecues, camping etc.
At the bottom end of the reserve is the short (10minutes or so) walk through the Cathedral of Ferns, a small patch of rain forest on the opposite side of the road. There are other tracks leading off into the bush from the reserve which look like they are worth exploring. In addition, a track leads from Cathedral Reserve back to Mt Wilson village.

Blue Mountains Walks: The Waterfall Track Mt Wilson NSW Australia
PLEASE SUBSCRIBE!
The basalt cap of Mt Wilson has weathered to produce a rich soil on which subtropical rainforest thrives. Much of the area has been converted to European style gardens but significant areas remain undisturbed on the flanks of the mountain.
This walk descends from a picnic area to a series of small waterfalls in the rainforest before ascending by another route. Highly recommended.

Winter at Mount Wilson (Vlog + Cinematic highlights - E1)
EPISODE 1 DESCRIPTION
Today was the first day we tried out a vlog with cinematic highlights. We went on a quick spontaneous day trip to Mount Wilson hoping to see the beautiful trees that everyone talks about and of course the Breenhold gardens located at Blue Mountains. Unfortunately, there were no more leaves on the trees as it's winter and majority of the gardens were also closed! :( But that didn't stop us from finding the shots we needed! We were happy with the day and the outcome especially since I flew my DJI Mavic Pro for the first time!

Kellie, Dave and Tom on a vacation in Australia in 2000. This is a stop in a Eucalyptus forest and the Cathedral of Ferns as a part of a whole day Blue Mountain tour. Not included in the video but as part of a coffee break after crossing the bridge, we were introduced to a desert called Lemingtons. Later we stopped at a hotel for a buffet lunch.

Blue Mountains Walks: The Wonderland Track, Medlow Bath NSW Australia
PLEASE SUBSCRIBE!
The highlight of this walk, is an eroded sandstone cave know as Mark's Tomb, from the original developer of the Hydro Majestic Hotel, Mark Foy. He was a prominent Sydney businessman who gained a lot of pleasure from his exclusive hotel development.
Although he would have like to have been buried there, things did not turn out that way. See my Blog for more information (the link is at the end of the video).
The track, which is somewhat overgrown, passes through some fairly average Blue Mountains bushland. It is frequently used by climbers to access the nearby cliffs. Rock climbing is a popular sport in the western Blue Mountains.

Blue Mountains Walks: Water Nymph's Dell, Wentworth Falls NSW Australia
PLEASE SUBSCRIBE!
Water Nymph's Dell is on the opposite side of the railway line from the familiar Wentworth Falls sights, which means that it is much less often visited by walkers. It is easily accessible from the railway station, making it an ideal walk for those coming to the mountains by public transport.
The walk takes you down into a valley where a small stream tumbles over a sandstone cliff into a sandy pool, surrounded by typical Blue Mountains rain forest.
The track condition varies from good to poor, but it is never dangerous as there are no great drops along the way like there are on many Blue Mountains walks.
If there is any downside to this delightful short walk (less than 2 hours return) it is the road walking at the start and finish. Even then, this is mostly on quiet roads or concrete footpaths.

Louis Buvelot
'Near Fernshaw' 1873
Purchased 1976
The Swiss landscape painter Louis Buvelot arrived in Victoria in 1865 as an experienced and mature artist. Influenced by the French tradition of outdoor painting, he was admired for the way he used paint in a seemingly casual manner, and for revealing unnoticed beauty in the familiar landscape. Buvelot visualised the way that colonial settlers had become comfortable with their environment and no longer saw it as alien.
In Near Fernshaw Buvelot depicted a scene familiar to many city-dwellers: a dense fern glade at a popular summer retreat about 65 kilometres north-east of Melbourne. It was an uncharacteristic subject for Buvelot, who usually depicted rural scenes on the outskirts of Melbourne.
In Near Fernshaw he showed a bush scene in which tree-ferns and straight, tapering gum trees tower above a splitter and his pack horse carrying felled timber along a stretch of dirt road. Although there was considerable tree-felling around Fernshaw at this time, Buvelot depicted the forest in its natural state. His painterly surface suggests the different foliage, and the low viewpoint makes the viewer part of the scene. The splitter and his horse humanise the landscape and make it seem homely and familiar.

Blue Mountains Walks: Katoomba Falls to Scenic World Katoomba NSW Australia
PLEASE SUBSCRIBE!
This short walk (30 minutes return) links two of Katoomba's main attractions. There are very few steps and the track is in good order.
A short diversion down to Vaniman's Lookout provides great views of the Falls, but does have about 60 steps.
At Scenic World there is a range of attractions (Skyway, Scenic Railway and Cableway), food outlets and souvenir shop. The iconic Katoomba Falls Kiosk is at the beginning of the track.
There is plenty of parking at either end and regular buses serve both locations.
