The Cathedral Marie-Reine-du-Monde ( Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral) is the third largest church in Montreal. It is located in the central district Ville-Marie and is certainly one of the most beautiful cathedrals. After a fire destroyed the Cathedral of Saint-Jacques de Montreal in July 1852, Bishop Ignace Bourget gave the order for the construction a new cathedral. Template for the building was a scale model of St. Peter's in Rome.
The inauguration of the new Cathedral Marie-Reine-du-Monde was in March 1894. With 333 ft. of length, 150 ft. of width, 252 ft. of height, and a cupola with a diameter of 75 ft., the cathedral is about half the size of St. Peter's Basilica.
Since May 2006, the Cathedral Marie-Reine-du-Monde is part of the National Historic Sites of Canada.

Die Kathedrale Marie-Reine-du-Monde ist die drittgrößte Kirche von Montreal. Sie befindet sich im zentralen Stadtbezirk Ville-Marie und ist sicherlich eine der schönsten Kathedralen.
Nachdem ein Feuer im Juli 1852 die Kathedrale Saint-Jacques de Montréal zerstört hatte, gab Bischof Ignace Bourget den Auftrag zum Bau einer neuen Kathedrale. Vorlage für den Bau war ein maßstabgetreues Modell des Petersdoms in Rom.
Im März 1894 war die Einweihung der neuen Kathedrale Marie-Reine-du-Monde. Mit 101 m Länge, 46 m Breite, 77 m Höhe und einer Kuppel von 23 m Durchmesser ist die Kathedrale ca. halb so groß wie der Petersdom.
Seit Mai 2006 gehört sie zu den National Historic Sites von Kanada.

Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral (French: Cathédrale Marie-Reine-du-Monde) is a minor basilica in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and the seat of the Roman Catholic archdiocese of Montreal. It is the third largest church in Quebec after Saint Joseph's Oratory (also in Montreal) and the Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré east of Quebec City. The building is 101 m (333 ft) in length, 46 m (150 ft) in width, and a maximum height of 77 m (252 ft) at the cupola, the diameter of which is 23 m (75 ft).
The church is located at 1085 Cathedral Street at the corner of René Lévesque Boulevard and Metcalfe Street, near the Bonaventure metro station and Central Station in downtown Montreal.
