Die Handschrift der 1856 komponierten Messe in D-Dur galt während vieler Jahre als verschollen bis diese am 10. Oktober 1975 im Archiv des Kirchenchors zu St. Florin, Vaduz, Liechtenstein wiederentdeckt wurde. Der Kirchenchor zu St. Florin, Vaduz hat sich 2016 dazu entschieden, die Handschrift an das Landesarchiv / Rheinbergerarchiv zu übergeben. Aus Anlass dieser Übergabe hat der Kirchenchor zu St. Florin diese Messe in D-Dur am 20. November 2016 in der Kathedrale und Pfarrkirche zu St. Florin, zur Aufführung gebracht. In den Archiven konnten wir nur einen einzigen Hinweis auf die Aufführung dieser Messe finden.
Am 3. April 1875 schreibt die Liechtensteinische Wochenzeitung (zweiter Jahrgang Nr. 14): Am Palmsontag (i.e. 3. April 1874) diente die Orgel (Beim Neubau der Kirche wurde auch eine, von Rheinberger konzipierte, Orgel angeschafft, welche er auch kollaudierte) zum ersten mal zur Begleitung des Kirchengesanges, wo Rheinberger ebenfalls die Orgelbegleitung zu einer von ihm 1856 (mit 17 Jahren) componierten Messe übernahm und wo Componist und Sängerpersonal mit aller Hingebung sich sich die gute Durchführung dieser Composition angelegen sein liessen. Die Orgel und das kunstvolle Spiel derselben befriedigten die versammelte Gemeinde, deren meisten Glieder sie zum rrstenmale hörten, im höchsten Grade

Vaduz is the capital of the principality of Liechtenstein and the seat of the national parliament. The town, located along the Rhine, has about 5,100 inhabitants (as of 2009), most of whom are Roman Catholic. Its cathedral is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Vaduz.
Vaduz is said to be mentioned in historic 12th-century manuscripts as Farduzes. It is, however, commonly believed to have been founded circa 1322 by the Counts of Werdenberg. In 1322 a mention of the castle is made, which was sacked by the Swiss in 1499 during the Swabian War. The entire town was also destroyed.
In the 17th century the Liechtenstein family was seeking a seat in the Imperial diet, the Reichstag. However, since they did not hold any territory that was directly under the Imperial throne, they were unable to meet the primary requirement to qualify.
The family yearned for the added power a seat in the Imperial government would bring, and therefore sought to acquire lands that would be Reichsunmittelbar, or held without any feudal personage other than the Holy Roman Emperor himself having rights on the land. After some time, the family was able to arrange the purchase of the minuscule Herrschaft (Lordship) of Schellenberg and countship of Vaduz (in 1699 and 1712 respectively) from the Hohenems. Tiny Schellenberg and Vaduz possessed exactly the political status required: no feudal lord other than their comital sovereign and the suzerain Emperor.
Thereby, on January 23, 1719, after purchase had been duly made, Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor, decreed Vaduz and Schellenberg were united, and raised to the dignity of Fürstentum (principality) with the name Liechtenstein in honour of [his] true servant, Anton Florian of Liechtenstein. It is on this date that Liechtenstein became a sovereign member state of the Holy Roman Empire. As a testament to the pure political expediency of the purchases, the Princes of Liechtenstein did not set foot in their new principality for over 120 years.
The most prominent landmark of Vaduz is Vaduz Castle, the home of the reigning prince of Liechtenstein and the Liechtenstein princely family. The castle is visible from almost any location in Vaduz, being perched atop a steep hill in the middle of the city. The Cathedral of St. Florin, Government House and City Hall are also well-known landmarks, displaying the various styles and periods of architecture that the city is known for.

1:03 - The Red House: a gabled stairs structure with a large tower containing living quarters, is located in the Mitteldorf area of Vaduz.The house gets its name from the dark-red colour the building has had since the middle of the 19th century. Documents show that work began on another construction on the same site several centuries earlier, before being abandoned in the 15th century. The Red House's many owners over the years include the St. Johann Monastery. Since 1807 the building has been in the possession of the Rheinberger family. Egon Rheinberger - a famous painter, sculptor and architect from Liechtenstein - extended the Red House between 1902 and 1905.

Kathedrale St. Florin
Als 1342 die Grafschaft Vaduz gegründet wurde, wurde die Florinskapelle zur gräflichen Eigenkirche. Mit Erwerb der Grafschaft auf die Fürsten von und zu Liechtenstein, gingen 1712 auch die Patronatsrechte über. Es wird vermutet, dass eine Kapelle schon im damaligen Mittelalter entstand, erwähnt wird sie aber erstmals 1375. Die Kapelle, die zeitweise auch Grabstelle der Landesherren aus den Familien der Grafen von Werdenberg, von Sulz, von Hohenems und von Brandis war, wurde mehrfach vergrößert und renoviert.
1602 wurde sie neu geweiht. Von 1844 an ist der Friedhof südöstlich von der Kirche zur allgemeinen Nutzung geöffnet. Seit dem siebzehnten Jahrhundert war Dieser der gräflichen Familie und ihren Hausangestellten zugeteilt. Im Jahre 1860 entschied man sich für einen Neubau der Kirche. Der Bau wurde 1868, parallel zur Südflucht der alten Kapelle, begonnen. Gebaut wurde nach den Plänen von Friedrich von Schmidt und unter der Leitung des Architekten Ignaz von Bank. Grundsteinlegung war am 17. August 1869, Richtfest am 18. Juni 1870. 1872 wurden der alte Turm und die Sakristei abgerissen und 1873 wurde Vaduz zur selbständigen Pfarrei mit eigener Kirche.
Nach dem Kollaps der österreichisch-ungarischen Monarchie mussten die liechtensteinischen Fürsten ihre Schlösser in Eisgrub und Feldsberg verlassen. Vaduz wurde zur Residenz und es wurde notwendig, eine neue Familiengrabstätte zu errichten. 1960 wurde die Fürstliche Gruft bei St. Florin fertig gestellt. Die Fürstengruft befindet sich rechts neben der Kathedrale. Neben Mitgliedern der liechtensteinischen Fürstenfamilie sind hier auch die Fürstin Georgina von Wilczek (1921-1989) und ihr Ehemann Fürst Franz Josef II. (1906-1989) beigesetzt. Patron der Kirche ist St. Florin (Florinus), der im siebten Jahrhundert lebte und aus Matsch im Vintschgau stammte. Am 2. Dezember 1997 richtete der damalige Papst Johannis Paul II. das Erzbistum Vaduz neu ein und ernannte Wolfgang Haas zum ersten Erzbischof.
So wurde aus der einfachen Pfarrkirche St. Florin eine Kathedrale. Zu bewundern gibt es in dem Gotteshaus zahlreiche Schätze. Unter anderem eine 47 Zentimeter hohe Büste des heiligen Florin aus dem Jahr 1520. Die barocken Wandfiguren von Petrus und Paulus neben dem Hochaltar, Christus als Weltenherrscher in der Seitenkapelle, Maria unter dem Kreuz und Johannes wurden wohl um 1670 herum für die ehemalige Florinskapelle hergestellt. Der Hochaltar mit Statuen der Evangelisten wurde 1873 von Josef Leimer in Wien geschaffen.
Die Kirchenorgel entstand 1872 bis 1874 nach Plänen des Komponisten Josef Gabriel Rheinberger (1839-1901) in der Firma Steinmeyer in Oettingen in Bayern. 1947 wurde sie umgebaut und erweitert und 1979 erneut renoviert.
Im Jahre 2013 wurde die Orgel im Zuge eines restaurativen Neubaus durch Hermann Eule Orgelbau Bautzen in den ursprünglichen Zustand zurückgeführt. (Quelle: Wikipedia)
Die Glockengießerei Gebrüder Graßmayr aus Feldkirch lieferte 1873 die Glocken: Johannes-Glocke (2442 kg), Muttergottes-Glocke (1288 kg), Lucius-Glocke (734 kg) und Florinsglocke (302 kg). 1965 lieferte Emil Eschmann aus Wil zwei weitere Glocken,
die Dreifaltigkeitsglocke (6190 kg) und die Engel-Glocke (736 kg).

Day Trip To Vaduz, Liechtenstein | Travel Vlog | Shot on GoPro
After exploring Luxembourg in a day on #TheDayTripShow, we took a day trip from Lucerne, Switzerland to #Vaduz, Liechtenstein.
Exploring a new country in a day is definitely exciting when it is one of the least visited countries across Europe. Our day trip to Vaduz started with a trip to the tourism office and getting our passports stamped. Next, we hiked up to see the Vaduz Castle where the royalty lives and then headed to a Subway to grab the cheapest available lunch. Liechtenstein is definitely expensive, even more than Switzerland.
After lunch, we walked some more around the Vaduz for our Vaduz city tour around the town centre, the cathedral and headed straight to the Liechtenstein-Switzerland border. However that was not the end of our day. Our last trip was to the isolated Gutenberg Castle. It got dark and somewhat creepy with no soul to be found on the road. After an eventful day, we took our train back to Lucerne via Zurich.

Das Fürstentum Liechtenstein liegt in der Ostschweiz am Rhein an der Grenze zu Österreich. Wir machen einen Rundgang durch den Hauptort Vaduz. Wir starten an der Kathedrale St. Florin und gehen über den Platz Städtle zum Liechtensteinischen Landesmuseum. Von dort geht es geradeaus weiter bis zum zentralen Kreisverkehr am Restaurant Adler in Vaduz. Von dort geht es über die Hauptverkehrsstraße 28 zurück zum Ausgangspunkt der Sightseeing Tour. Bei der Kathedrale gibt es einen großzügigen Parkplatz und die erste Stunde Parkzeit ist kostenlos.

A parish hall and provision of good restaurants reflect the success of the global companies that are located there. Liechtenstein Castle looms majestically above Vaduz, the capital. Saint Florin is located on the edge of the old town it was built in 1868 in Neo-Gothic style and in 1997 officially dedicated as a cathedral. From the Sareiser Joch there are several trails along the ridge such as the Princess Gina Route that traverses various mountains of the border triangle. More than four hundred well marked hiking trails are offered throughout Liechtenstein, plus a hundred and sixty kilometres in the Alps. The Principality is a treasure trove of both landscape and culture with mountains, pastures, castles, fortresses and museums. But Liechtenstein has also become a small, modern state with a vital and indelible focus on finance and industry, a tiny paradise that is also an important economic power.
