Places to see in ( Teruel - Spain )
Teruel is a high-altitude town in the mountainous Aragon region of eastern Spain. It's known for classic Mudéjar architecture, a style combining Gothic and Islamic elements. Examples include the Santa María de Mediavilla Cathedral, dating to the 12th century, which features an elaborately painted ceiling. The Torre de El Salvador, a 14th-century Mudéjar tower, has an intricate facade and stairs to the top.
Teruel is a town in Aragon, located in eastern Spain, and is also the capital of Teruel Province. Teruel is noted for its harsh climate (hot in summer and very cold in winter), its renowned jamón serrano (cured ham), its pottery, its surrounding archaeological sites, rock outcrops containing some of the oldest dinosaur remains of the Iberian Peninsula, and its famous events: La Vaquilla del Ángel during the weekend closer more to the 10th July (Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday), and Bodas de Isabel de Segura around the third weekend of February.
Teruel is regarded as the town of mudéjar (Moorish-influenced architecture) due to numerous buildings designed in this style. All of them are comprised in the Mudéjar Architecture of Aragon which is a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.
Teruel's remote and mountainous location 915 metres (3,002 feet) above sea level and its low population has led to relative isolation within Spain. A campaign group with the slogan Teruel existe (Teruel exists) was founded in 1999 to press for greater recognition and investment in the town and the province. Due in part to the campaign, transport connections to Teruel are being greatly improved with the construction of a motorway between Zaragoza and Sagunto, large parts of which are now open. However, Teruel remains the only provincial capital in peninsular Spain without a direct railway link to the capital, Madrid.
Teruel was founded in 1171 by Alfonso II. In the Middle Ages Teruel possessed a prominent Jewish community, which was robust during the centuries Muslims were in power and enjoyed several privileges. Later on after the Christian reconquest of Spain, the Jewish community paid a yearly tax of 300 sueldos (in the 14th century).
Teruel was fought over in the Spanish Civil War and suffered much destruction. The Battle of Teruel in December 1937-February 1938, was one of the bloodiest of the war.
The beauty of the town's cultural inheritance, which has some Islamic influence, has been recognised by UNESCO, which includes four churches in the World Heritage Site Mudéjar Architecture of Aragon, notably the town's ornate cathedral in the Mudéjar style.
One of Teruel's best known monuments is very small statue of a bull on top of a tall column, known as El Torico (the little bull). It is located in the main square, Plaza Carlos Castell, more commonly known as the Plaza del Torico in the middle of the town center.
Other sights include:
Torre de El Salvador (14th century), in mudéjar style
Cathedral: Catedral de Santa María de Teruel, in mudéjar style
San Pedro, a notable mudéjar church (16th century) with a tower similar to that of the cathedral. This story is known as los amantes de Teruel and has inspired writers (for example Hartzenbusch) and an opera composed by Tomás Bretón.
Church of La Merced, with a bell tower in mudéjar style (the upper sector added later in Baroque style).
Church of San Salvador (17th century), with one of the most outstanding mudéjar towers. It houses a 14th-century wooden sculpture of Christ.
Church of San Martín (17th century).
Torre de San Martín (14th century), in mudéjar style
Church of San Miguel (12th century), remade in the 17th century in Baroque style.
Castillo de Alambes, a 15th-century fortification built over the Arabic Alcazar.
Casa El Torico, Casa Ferrán and Casa La Madrileña, 1910s liberty style houses
Palace of the Marquis of Tosos (17th century)
The Gothic church of St. Francis (1391–1492). It has a single nave with chapels covered by a ribbed vault with no crossing.
Los Arcos, an aqueduct with two orders of arcade from 1538.
On the outskirts of Teruel is Dinópolis Teruel, a combined theme park and museum centred on dinosaurs. The chimney of the Teruel Power Plant is one of the tallest freestanding structures in Western Europe.

The Plaza del Torico is the urban epicenter of this cold city, but at the same time fascinating. Teruel The showcases exhibit reproductions of the Mudejar towers scattered throughout the smallest capital of Spain. The alleys of the Plaza del Torico lead to the Cathedral, consecrated to Santa María de Mediavilla. The tower of the Turolense cathedral is a dazzling geometric example of bricks and tiles where Christianity and Islam seem to shake hands for the benefit of the unique work, far from any religious complication. The tower of El Salvador is next to the Plaza de las Monjas, and is twin to that of San Martín. San Pedro is a temple erected entirely from the Mudejar postulates. The church began to be built in 1319. Its bell tower encourages certain aesthetic similarities with the cathedral tower. The cover is packed with geometric motifs intertwined with glazed ceramics that provide an extraordinary color and the tower of the church of San Martín forms the Mudejar de Teruel, HERITAGE HERITAGE since 1986. This inscription confirms the exceptional and universal value of a cultural site and natural that must be protected for the benefit of humanity as a whole. Mudejar Art is the result of the fusion of Arab and Christian elements that give rise to a genuine and proper style, reflecting a context of coexistence and melting pot of Muslim, Christian and Jewish cultures.
In the singularity of the Mudejar of Teruel two very well differentiated artistic traditions converge, which end up integrating into one, thus achieving their strong and unquestionable personality. One is the Aragonese Islamic tradition and the other, the influence that will come from the Almohad world and other Mudejar foci from the rest of the peninsular territory. An original feature of the medieval Mudéjar towers of Teruel is its location on the road network that crosses them.
This video is a general view of the city. In successive videos I will discuss emblematic places in particular. Visit in June 2111.

CATEDRAL DE TERUEL playerbcn1

The four towns most charming of Spain in Teruel with wheelchair
More information and
Our tour of the province of Teruel took us to meet four of The most beautiful villages of Spain found in this land and that they are accessible with wheelchair.
Valderrobres.-
It is located in the region of Matarranya, is the most difficult to cross them in a wheelchair because their streets are steep and even using is dangerous. Therefore I propose several options that can traverse uneven despite what we have, those who can not follow these recommendations can help:
Browse lower areas and then up to the Collegiate and enter the museum, whose access is not accessible at the moment but if the inside with toilets, elevator and very spacious. The other option is to climb to the Collegiate with the car, park it there if there's room, entering the museum that I have mentioned and worth and from there down the streets to the square, city hall and bridge. Logically, this option requires someone to lower the car.
Rubielos de Mora.-
It is located in the county of Gúdar-Javalambre. It is very comfortable to visit planito and Wheelchair. We can access with a ramp gable inside the old market.
Its streets are full of history and beautiful homes that you can enjoy without worry, with the wheelchair.
Albarracín.-
It belongs to the region of Sierra de Albarracín. It is as beautiful as complicated in some of its streets. The floor is all paved but has wide slabs why can move more comfortably with our wheelchair. If the chair is electric or you carry as Stricker Baker Rodem one, you will not have too much trouble to go most of the streets, but if you use manual wheelchair without electrical assistance I recommend accompanied.
You can visit the cathedral with help because currently have no access adapted but once inside you will touch you without problems and will enjoy the fantastic restoration they are doing and where you can enjoy until finished.
Views and beauty that touched me in this town of Teruel.
Cantavieja.-
It is located in the region of Maestrazgo. Mostly it is very convenient to travel with wheelchair and you can visit the Tourist Office which is also the Museum of the Carlist Wars of Cantavieja. Breathe history and beauty through the streets and visit the church perfectly adapted with two ramps gable exceeding two gates that give access to the interior.

A 1080 y 60 fps.
