Cathedral of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Zagreb, Croatia.
Cathedral of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Zagreb, Croatia.
Built in the 11th century, this magnificent cathedral, partially demolished after an earthquake in 1880, has a new face since the Austrian architect Hermann Bolleadded two big towers / arrows that make this cathedral a symbol of Zagreb. Herman Bolle has also worked on two other symbols of the city of Zagreb : the cemetery of Mirogoj and St. Mark's Church.
Inside the Cathedral is Kardinal Stepinac’s grave, Archbishop of Zagreb from 1946 to 1960, the year of his death. The grave was made in 1991 when Croatia became independent. It was a way of recognizing the importance of that man who worked hard for the independence of his country and spent 15 years in prison because he was convicted of promoting the Croatian language by the Yugoslav communist regime. The cathedral has also one of the largest orgue in Europe.

Zagreb In Your Pocket - Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is wonder of neo-Gothic artistry. The impressive and sharp looking towers stand out from nearly anywhere you are in the entire city. Though it's in an evidently permanent state of reconstruction, it's undeniably overwhelming and will push you to ponder those larger things we can see you've been avoiding. Go ahead and wander inside but don't forget to turn the mobile off. A brief history: 1093 - founded; 1242 - the initial Romanesque construction is finished. In the next 21 years it's heavily damaged in various sieges by the Tatars; 1624 - a series of sweeping fires practically destroys it; 1645 - another wave of fires picks up where the last left off. It's reconstructed; 1880 - sustains serious damage during an earthquake. A 12-year restoration takes place, at which time the neo-Gothic bell towers are raised skyward; 1990 - exterior renovations set in motion to battle against the effects of time. Mass: 07:00, 08:00, 09:00, Sunday 07:00, 08:00, 09:00, 10:00, 11:30.

From Wikipedia
The Zagreb Cathedral on Kaptol is a Roman Catholic institution and not only the tallest building in Croatia but also the most monumental sacral building in Gothic style southeast of the Alps.[3] It is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and to kings Saint Stephen and Saint Ladislaus. The cathedral is typically Gothic, as is its sacristy, which is of great architectural value. Its prominent spires are considered to be landmarks as they are visible from most parts of the city.
In 1093 when King Ladislaus (1040-1095) moved the bishop's chair from Sisak to Zagreb, he proclaimed the existing church as a cathedral. Construction on the cathedral started shortly after his death and was finished in 1217 and consecrated by king Andrew II of Hungary. The building was destroyed by the Mongols in 1242 but rebuilt by bishop Timotej (1263-1287) a few years later. At the end of the 15th century, the Ottoman Empire invaded Croatia, triggering the construction of fortification walls around the cathedral, some of which are still intact. In the 17th century, a fortified renaissance watchtower was erected on the south side, and was used as a military observation point, because of the Ottoman threat.
The cathedral was severely damaged in the 1880 Zagreb earthquake. The main nave collapsed and the tower was damaged beyond repair. The restoration of the cathedral in the Neo-Gothic style was led by Hermann Bollé, bringing the cathedral to its present form. As part of that restoration, two spires 108 m (354 ft) high were raised on the western side, both of which are now in the process of being restored as part of an extensive general restoration of the cathedral. [4]
The cathedral is depicted on the reverse of the Croatian 1000 kuna banknote issued in 1993.[5]
When facing the portal, the building is 46 meters wide and 108 meters high.[6] The cathedral contains a relief of Cardinal Aloysius Stepinac with Christ done by the Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović. The cathedral was visited by Pope Benedict XVI on 5 June 2011 where he celebrated Sunday Vespers and prayed before the tomb of Blessed Aloysius Stepinac.

Memorial to Saint Filipović in Zagrebačka Katedrala (Zagreb Cathedral), Zagreb, Croatia
The detail of the art is beautiful, which is why I chose to film it; however, it's better seen in person. As I understand, though, this saint was killed because of his faith; but he remains an important figure to Catholics in Zagreb. :)
