► PARTICIPATION OF MASSES THROUGH MEDIA
LIVE broadcasts of Masses via the Internet help Catholics to pray and is especially useful with those who are homebound, sick or cannot attend Mass for valid reasons.
... those who hear or view these broadcasts should be aware that, under normal circumstances, they do not fulfill the obligation of attending Mass. Visual images can represent reality, but they do not actually reproduce it.(177) While it is most praiseworthy that the elderly and the sick participate in Sunday Mass through radio and television, the same cannot be said of those who think that such broadcasts dispense them from going to church and sharing in the eucharistic assembly in the living Church. For many years, the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd was left in a state of disrepair. Plagued by a shortage of funds and a crumbling foundation, the now restored Cathedral stands tall and proud — as living proof of the immutable power of faith and community.

PLEASE NOTE: With regard to fulfilling the obligation of Christmas mass, the Faithful are required to attend the Christmas mass besides the normal Sunday mass. It is recommended that they attend the 4th Sunday of Advent on Saturday sunset mass or on Sunday morning. If they attend the Christmas vigil mass on Sunday evening to fulfill their Sunday obligation, then they would have to attend another Christmas mass on Monday.

All Saints' Day is a solemn holy day, dedicated to the saints of the Church, that is, all those who have attained heaven. It is a day of obligation.
We all have this universal call to holiness. What must we to do in order to join the company of the saints in heaven? We must follow in His footsteps and conform [our]selves to His image seeking the will of the Father in all things. [We] must devote [our]selves with all [our] being to the glory of God and the service of [our] neighbour. In this way, the holiness of the People of God will grow into an abundant harvest of good, as is admirably shown by the life of so many saints in Church history (Lumen Gentium, 40).

Day 1 (14 Feb 2017) - Dedication Mass @ Cathedral of the Good Shepherd
Day 1 (14 Feb 2017) - Dedication Mass presided by Archbishop William Goh
The newly restored Cathedral of the Good Shepherd was dedicated on 14 February 2017 at 7pm, on the 120th anniversary of the Consecration held in 1897. This was followed by a 2-week celebration of daily activities at the Catholic Mother Church of Singapore. Thousands participated in this joyous occasion. Learn more about this at .
The Dedication of a church, more so a Cathedral of an archdiocese is a very solemn celebration. The rite of the dedication begins with the entrance into the church followed by the sprinkling of Holy Water on the Cathedral and on the people (who are the spiritual temples), then the walls of the church, and finally, the altar. After the Liturgy of the Word, the litany of the saints is sung, and is followed by the Depositing of the Relics of a martyr (St Laurent Imbert) and St Francis Xavier. This sacred ritual denotes the fact that the sacrifice of the members has its source in the sacrifice of the Head, and that the sacrifice of the Mass is always enjoined to the communion of Saints followed by the Rites of Anointing. In virtue of the anointing with chrism the altar becomes a symbol of Christ “The Anointed One”, Incensation, Covering and Lighting of the Altar are symbols of the prayer of the Church and her mission to be light to the nations. When the altar has been prepared, the bishop celebrates the first Eucharist upon the newly dedicated Altar, which is the principal and integral part of the rite of the dedication of a church. This is so because the altar is the symbol of Christ the “keystone” of the Church built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets (Ephesians 2:20). The Dedication Mass is followed with 12 days of celebrations. Biblically, these 12 days symbolises the fullness and completeness of the celebration; the 12 tribes of Israel, the 12 apostles. Come and celebrate with us and offer our prayers and love for Singapore's Catholic “Mother Church”.
Special thanks to:
- Fr Luke Fong for his wonderful commentary
- Fr Ignatius Yeo for his insight on the liturgy

Good Friday Service 2019 @ Cathedral of the Good Shepherd

Good Friday (of the Lord’s Passion), is the second day of the Easter Triduum and the day that Catholics and other Christians throughout the world commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus.
The Good Friday liturgy has three parts: the Liturgy of the Word, the Veneration of the Cross, and the Service of Communion. On Good Friday we do not celebrate Mass. The Eucharist that is received on Good Friday was consecrated a day earlier at the Holy Thursday liturgy.
During Good Friday service, Catholics go up to the front of the church to kiss a cross. This act is called Veneration of the Cross and in which Catholics honour the great sacrifice Jesus made on the cross. At the end of the Good Friday service the ministers and assembly depart in silence. Watch the entire service celebrated by Archbishop William Goh which includes a homily.
