Saint Patrick Cathedral of Melbourne Australia
St. Patrick Cathedral - Melbourne, Australia (unofficial video)
St Patrick's Cathedral is the mother church of the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne. The Centenary of its official opening and Consecration was marked in 1997; however, the first Mass was celebrated on the site in February 1858 in a former partially completed church, some of which was incorporated into the south aisle of the present building. By 1868, the completed nave of the Cathedral first served the needs of the community for regular worship and prayer.
St Patricks is one of the worlds most elegant and inspiring neo-gothic Cathedrals.
Overlooking Melbournes bustling city grid, St. Patricks is both a monument to the faith and generosity of Melbourne Catholics in the boom and bust years of the 19th century, as well as a place of lively worship, prayer and reflection in todays busy world.
The Presbytery (residence) and Cathedral Office is located in Cathedral Place to the right of the Pilgrim Path entrance, next to the Cathedral Shop.
Office hours are 9.00am - 5.00pm Monday to Friday.
We are delighted to share the St. Patricks story with you.
