Yokohama - A Walk in the Exotic Yamate Area (Part I)横浜 山手地区散歩（I）
Yokohama is one of the pots that first opened its port to foreign countries. Therefore, here and there in Yokohama we can see and feel exotic elements. The hilly Yamate Area may be the most exotic even today. You can see western style residences, churches, various museums in the western style. On this video you see Diplomat's House, Bluff No. 18, Catholic Yamate Church and Berrick Hall. You can even see the interiors of the Bluff No.18 and the Berrick Hall.
I made a mistake about the spelling of Diplomat's. Diplomat's, not Diplomant's, is correct. I'm terribly sorry about this blunder.

The church choir sang a classic Filipino Christmas song, Ang Pasko ay Sumapit. Here's my rough translation of the lyrics:

Sancta Maria School 1962
Parents Day in March 1962 at Sancta Maria Garden School in Nerima Ward, Tokyo, Japan, near Grant Heights, Momote Village and Camp Drake. (In the mid-1960s, following Vatican II reforms, the school was renamed from its Latin name to the Spanish vernacular Santa Maria International School.) It was built in 1959 by both Catholic and non-Catholic parents of American dependent children at surrounding U.S. military bases and foreign expatriate families living in the Tokyo area, and was operated by the Spanish missionary order Sisters of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ. The K-12 international school closed in July 2012 after a half-century of service. A sister school was located in Yokohama.

Bluff No. 18 is a registered historical building of Yokohama. It was originally built at 45 Yamate Town as a residence for foreigners after the Great Kanto Earthquake. It became the property of the Roman Catholic Church Diocese of Yokohama after World War II, and was used as the parish house of the Yamate Catholic Church until 1991. Located within the Yamate Italian Garden.
大正末期に建てられた外国人住宅で、1991年までカトリック山手教会の司祭館として使用されていました。
建物は木造2階建てです。1、2階とも中廊下型の平面構成で、フランス瓦の屋根、暖炉の煙突、ベイウィンドウ、上げ下げ窓と鎧戸、南側のバルコニーとサンルームなど、震災前の外国人住宅の特徴を残しながら、外壁は震災の経験を生かし、防災を考慮したモルタル吹き付け仕上げとなっています。
1993年にイタリア山庭園内に移築復元。館内は震災復元期の外国人住宅の暮らしを再現。ベイウィンドウ・上げ下げ窓・鎧戸・サンルームなど、当時の外国人住宅の特徴が見られます。
位于山手意大利庭院内的洋房。1991年之前，曾是山手天主教会的祭司馆。
