Kotor is a coastal town in Montenegro. It is located in a secluded part of the Gulf of Kotor. The city has a population of 13,510 and is the administrative center of Kotor Municipality.
The old Mediterranean port of Kotor is surrounded by fortifications built during the Venetian period. It is located on the Bay of Kotor (Boka Kotorska), one of the most indented parts of the Adriatic Sea. Some have called it the southern-most fjord in Europe, but it is a ria, a submerged river canyon. Together with the nearly overhanging limestone cliffs of Orjen and Lovćen, Kotor and its surrounding area form an impressive landscape.
Since the early 2000s Kotor has seen an increase in tourists, many of them coming by cruise ship. Visitors are attracted by the natural environment of the Gulf of Kotor and by the old town of Kotor. Kotor is part of the World Heritage Site dubbed the Natural and Culturo-Historical Region of Kotor.
The fortified city of Kotor was also included in UNESCO's World Heritage Site list as part of Venetian Works of Defence between 15th and 17th centuries: Stato da Terra – western Stato da Mar in 2017.

The Many Street Cats of Kotor, Montenegro [4K]
The cats of Kotor are so ubiquitous, they’ve become a prominent symbol of the city. Some say the official symbol of Kotor. Not only can furry felines be found at every cobbled street corner, the souvenir shops are cat crazy and there is even a museum dedicated to cats. Kotor used to be a busy trading port and with all the ships came cats from all around the world. Clearly many of them got left behind and today Kotor not only has a very large pussy population, but also a very multicultural one!

Kotor, Montenegro: Cats and Steps
By far Kotor and Montenegro have some of the prettiest views we've seen in Europe! We loved the fjords and it was perfect to climb the Kotor mountain and see the city from every angle. As we went Peyton even built up the courage to like and pet cats. Kotor is absolutely beautiful and we wish we could do a better job of capturing it. Every street we went down was gorgeous and looked like it should be on a postcard!

I found a stray cat in the village of Kotor, Montenegro
While my mom, my two godmothers, my aunt and I were on the tour to Kotor, Montenegro, I found a stray cat by the Catholic church building. It seems pretty cute and it let the kids gently pet it. Too bad my mom won't let me touch stray animals because she doesn't like stray pets she thought they are filthy and have rabies on their bodies without veterinary shots they didn't get. I was going to pet it but I have to go and catch up to my mom and the others because otherwise, I'll might get in trouble if I was caught by my mom of touching this stray cat.
There are other stray cats and kittens in this village. We went around for like 5 or 6 hours until we head back to the cruise for resting. This is Day 10 of 2 week cruise vacation.

11 Kotor, Montenegro is AMAZING CATS - Block Explorer
Kotor is a coastal town in Montenegro with a population of about 13,500. It is well-known for its World heritage medieval structures (including churches and fortifications) and its stunning natural setting at the very edge of the mountain-rimmed Kotor Bay.
Kotor is situated in a most secluded tip of Boka Kotorska bay, in the northern part of the Montenegro coast on the Adriatic Sea. Kotor has developed around Stari Grad (local language for old town), the city's old town and best known landmark, which is listed with UNESCO World heritage sites. Kotor Bay is the deepest natural fjord-like bay in the Mediterranean Sea, and the scenery around it (including the steep mountains which come almost straight down to the waters edge) is spectacular.
Kotor is also unique because it is the only town on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea to be located by name in historic and strategic maps. Old Kotor was built like a maze for protective purposes and it is very easy to get lost here. In fact, even the locals get lost. Take a wrong turn and you will wind up far from your destination. This can happen even with a town map in hand. However, looking for landmarks, such as the 12th century St. Tryphon Cathedral, will help—and these landmarks are listed on nearly every tourist map.
The population of Kotor is multi-ethnic: less than half are Montenegrins, less than a third are Serbians, and a tenth are Croatians. Kotor is still the seat of the Catholic Bishopric of Kotor, which covers the entire area surrounding the gulf of Kotor.
Kotor'un Kedileri - Karadağ (Cats of Kotor - Montenegro)
Kotor: The City of Cats
Kotor has a large population of cats that have become a symbol of the city. The city has several cat stores and a cat museum, as well as the Cats' Square. Water and food is left throughout the city for the cats to feed on, and cardboard boxes are often arranged to be a place for the cats to sleep in.
Kotor : Maritimum Museum
The urban core of Old Kotor is a network of streets produced by Roman urban architecture. It is a unique maze of streets, turning and ending in places where no one would ever expect.
The Maritime Museum of Montenegro in Kotor has grown out of the collection founded by the Boka Marine Fraternity, around the year 1880 and opened to public in 1900.The Maritime Museum of Montenegro in Kotor has grown out of the collection founded by the Boka Marine Fraternity, around the year 1880 and opened to public in 1900.In the period from 1982 to 1984, conservation and restoration works were finished .

Kotor, THE CAT CITY ???????? MONTENEGRO
We drove from Split straight to Kotor. It took us about 6 hours including the border crossings, which weren't all that bad.
As a US citizen, I needed only show my passport (as all other citizens of other countries must do). Nothing extra was required and no payments.
Motor itself is awesome. The old town is small and beautiful and of course the hike up the walls was difficult but rewarding.
Food is delicious here, anything seafood is recommended. We stayed 1 night and thought that was plenty on our short schedule, but a second day wouldn't have been bad.
