Tbilisi/Georgia:
Tbilisi Georgian: თბილისი)is the capital and the largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Kura River with a population of approximately 1.5 million people. Founded in the 5th century AD by Vakhtang I Gorgasali, the monarch of the Kingdom of Iberia, Tbilisi since served as the capital of various Georgian kingdoms and republics. Between 1801 and 1917, then being under the rule of the former Russian Empire, Tbilisi was the seat of the Imperial Viceroy, governing both Southern and Northern Caucasus.
Because of its location on the crossroads between Europe and Asia, and its proximity to lucrative east-west trade routes, throughout history Tbilisi was a point of contention between various global powers. The city's location to this day ensures its position as an important transit route for various energy and trade projects. Tbilisi's diverse history is reflected in its architecture, which is a mix of medieval, classical, Middle Eastern, Art Nouveau, Stalinist and Modernist structures.
Historically Tbilisi has been home to people of multiple cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, though it is currently overwhelmingly Eastern Orthodox Christian. Its notable tourist destinations include cathedrals Sameba and Sioni, classical Freedom Square, Rustaveli Avenue and Agmashenebeli Avenue, medieval Narikala Fortress, pseudo-Moorish Opera Theater, and the Georgian National Museum.
Location:Tbilisi is located in the South Caucasus at 41° 43' North Latitude and 44° 47' East Longitude. The city lies in Eastern Georgia on both banks of the Mt'k'vari River. The elevation of the city ranges from 380–770 metres above sea level (1,250–2,530 ft) and has the shape of an amphitheatre surrounded by mountains on three sides. To the north, Tbilisi is bounded by the Saguramo Range, to the east and south-east by the Iori Plain, to the south and west by various endings (sub-ranges) of the Trialeti Range.
The relief of Tbilisi is complex. The part of the city which lies on the left bank of the Mt'k'vari River extends for more than 30 km (19 mi) from the Avchala District to River Lochini. The part of the city which lies on the right side of the Mt'k'vari River, on the other hand, is built along the foothills of the Trialeti Range, the slopes of which in many cases descend all the way to the edges of the river Mt'k'vari. The mountains, therefore, are a significant barrier to urban development on the right bank of the Mt'k'vari River. This type of a geographic environment creates pockets of very densely developed areas while other parts of the city are left undeveloped due to the complex topographic relief. To the north of the city, there is a large reservoir (commonly known as the Tbilisi Sea) fed by irrigation canals.
As a multicultural city, Tbilisi is home to more than 100 ethnic groups. Around 89% of the population consists of ethnic Georgians, with significant populations of other ethnic groups such as Armenians, Russians, and Azeris. Along with the above-mentioned groups, Tbilisi is home to other ethnic groups including Ossetians, Abkhazians, Ukrainians, Greeks, Germans, Jews, Estonians, Kurds, Assyrians & Yazidis, and others.More than 95% of the residents of Tbilisi practise forms of Christianity (the most predominant of which is the Georgian Orthodox Church). The Russian Orthodox Church, which is in Full communion with the Georgian, and the Armenian Apostolic Church have significant followings within the city as well. A minority of the population (around 1.5%) practises Islam (mainly Shia Islam), while about 0.1% of Tbilisi's population practises Judaism. There is also Roman Catholic church and the Yazidi Sultan Ezid Temple.
Tbilisi has been historically known for religious tolerance. This is especially evident in the city's Old Town, where a mosque, synagogue, and Eastern and Oriental Orthodox churches can be found less than 500 metres (1,600 ft) from each other.Wikipedia

See the women of Dagestan make salt just like they did 500-years-ago
Subscribe to our channel! rupt.ly/subscribe
Footage released on Monday shows women from the small village of Kvankhidatli in southern Russia making salt out of soil and water.
Salt used to be the one and only thing locals 'could do for a living', head of the 900 people strong Kvankhidatli village Israil Saygidinov says. The salt making tradition was handed down through the ages for at least 500 years, he emphasises. They used to travel to Chechnya, to Tsumadinsky and Tsutinsky districts of Dagestan to sell the salt, to trade it for meat. Some say, 10 kilos of salt could be exchanged for 2-3 big sheeps, he describes. Now it's not that popular in Kvankhidatli, but some families stick to ancient traditions and make salt themselves.
As it used to be ages ago, women are the wain workers of the so-called salt industry in this Dagestani village. Men may help, but not take the lead. On their turn, these women's husbands and sons are responsible for more difficult things, for example, the wood to make the fire and evaporate the salt.
Anyway, boiling the salty water is one of the final steps of the process. As one of the salt makers, Zabihat Davlatova, describes, they start with mixing the soil and sludge with the water from the Andi Koysu river which lies next to the village. Sludge is meant to filter the water, which becomes really salty draining away in stony containers put just next to the river hundreds of years ago.
We take this water, take it to these houses over there, and there we boil it, make a fire and boil it. The water evaporates, the salt remains there. Then we keep this salt in the basket for 24 hours, then we put it in the sun to dry. We are getting snow-white salt at the end, Davlatova says.
The basket itself seems to be older than its owner too. Davlatova doesn't know exactly how old is it. 'Probably about a hundred-years-old. It is ancient. My mother-in-law's friends have made it,' she guesses.
Relatives are supposed to provide the newcomers with not only tools, but the soil for salt making itself. The plots of land belong to the families of Kvankhidatli. When a daughter gets married, her parents decide on how big the plot of land of a new family should be. These small pieces of land used to cost much more than now - just like salt. The tradition itself becomes rare and may disappear as young people from mountain village do not want to spend their days under the sun or next to the fire with their hands covered with salty soil.

Caucasus mountain military exercise global force Russia Georgia army drills 高加索山地軍事演習環球力量
Russian defense and interior ministry troops have each staged large-scale military exercises, one after another. Military drills take place across Russia practically year-round, but what was interesting about a recent series of exercises is that they were conducted in the mountainous regions of the North Caucasus. Russia’s borders with Georgia and Azerbaijan pass through the Caucasus Mountains, raising the question of whether these two countries are somehow linked to Russia’s future moves.
In mid-March, three-day command post exercises were held in Stavropol region and North Ossetia. Over 2,000 military communications specialists participated in the exercises, and about 500 pieces of special equipment were used (Kavkazsky Uzel, March 17; see EDM, March 24). Two weeks later, on March 31, the press service of the Southern Federal District announced that command post exercises were again being held in North Ossetia, this time with the participation of an anti-aircraft missile brigade based in Vladikavkaz. The exercises involved over 250 soldiers, over 50 pieces of military equipment and Su-25SM attack aircraft. The brigade’s management teams and unit designations were put in a state of high alert. The brigade then marched 150 kilometers to the area of Sernovodskoe in the Stavropol region, where they practiced skills necessary for combat operations (Mil.ru, March 31).
A day later, the Russian media announced that even larger Russian army exercises had taken place in South Ossetia, involving personnel from the Russian military base in South Ossetia, other Russian forces and South Ossetian armed groups. More than 800 Russian soldiers and about 200 pieces of military equipment were used (Pravoslav-voin.info, April 1). They were supported in the exercises by the air defense forces of the Southern Military District, along with Russian forces based in Armenia that included Mi-24 helicopters, MiG-29 jets and air defense systems (RT, April 3).
Earlier this week, military sources announced that military reconnaissance troops had also begun holding exercises. According to the sources, 250 soldiers from mechanized infantry units of the Southern Military District and the Black Sea Fleet launched exercises in North Ossetia’s Darial Gorge. The Southern Military District spans both the North Caucasian Federal Districts and the Southern Federal District (RIA Novosti, April 7). According to the press service of the Southern Military District, the units will operate behind the lines of a simulated enemy for two months. Under conditions close to actual combat, the military will practice rock climbing, crossing spaces through water and air, setting up observation outposts, reconnaissance ambushes, raids and other actions (Kavkazsky Uzel, April 7). The press service specifically mentioned that the military reconnaissance troops would learn how to seal off areas where illegal armed formations are located, destroy subversive groups, and locate weapons caches and ammunition in the highlands and forests. Also, Russian soldiers practiced operating as part of assault groups in urban areas to eliminate militant bases, rescue hostages, and capture buildings and infrastructure.

More information about the video content bellow:
1. Krasnodar Krai is a federal subject of Russia (a krai), located in the North Caucasus region. The third most-populous federal subject, the krai had a population of 5,226,647. Adygea is an enclave entirely within the krai.
2. During the 6th century BCE, Pontic Greeks founded the area's first cities.
3. Krasnodar is a city and the administrative center of Krasnodar Krai. Krasnodar officially reached a population of 1,000,007 on September 22, 2018, thus the city is the 16th most populated city in Russia, and also the country's 16th city with at least a million inhabitants. Krasnodar was founded on January 12, 1794 as Yekaterinodar. The original name meant Catherine's Gift, recognizing both Catherine the Great's grant of land in the Kuban region to the Black Sea Cossacks and Saint Catherine of Alexandria, who is considered to be the patron of the city. City status was granted in 1867. On December 7, 1920, as a result of the October Revolution, Yekaterinodar was renamed Krasnodar (Gift of the Reds).
4. Novorossiysk is Russia's main port on the Black Sea, one of the few cities awarded the title of the Hero City.
5. Sochi was host of the XXII Olympic Winter Games in 2014.
6. Krasnodar krai is the warmest region of Russia. The climate is mostly temperate continental, on the Black Sea coast from Anapa to Tuapse - semi-arid Mediterranean climate, south of Tuapse - humid subtropical. Winters are mild and summers are hot. Tourism is an important sector of the economy of Krasnodar krai. It is actively developing on the coast of the Black and Azov Seas, as well as in mountain and steppe districts of the region. The main centers of tourism are the resorts of federal significance (Sochi, Gelendzhik and Anapa) and the resorts of regional significance (Yeisk, Goryachiy Klyuch and Tuapse district). Due to a combination of favorable climatic conditions, availability of mineral waters and curative mud, Krasnodar krai is the most popular resort and tourist region of Russia and in fact the only one in Russia seaside spa and recreational center.
7. Mount Tsakhvoa is a mountain in the Western Caucasus, and is the highest point of Krasnodar Krai, Russia. The height of the summit is 3346 meters above sea level. On the northern slopes of the mountain is located one of the largest glaciers in the Krasnodar Territory with a total area of about 2,500 square metres, descending the steep slopes with three narrow tongues. Mount Tsakhvoa enjoys popularity with tourists and climbers.

Contents
According to the Azerbaijan Development Gateway, the name of the town goes back to the ethnonym of the Sakas, who reached the territory of modern day Azerbaijan in the 7th century B.C. and populated it for several centuries. In the medieval sources, the name of the town is found in various forms such as Sheke, Sheki, Shaka, Shakki, Shakne, Shaken, Shakkan, Shekin.
There are traces of the large-scale settlements in Shaki that date to more than 2700 years ago. The Sakas were an Iranian people that wandered from the north side of the Black Sea through Derbend passage and to the South Caucasus and from there to Asia Minor in the 7th century B.C. They occupied a good deal of the fertile lads in the South Caucasus in an area called Sakasena. The city of Shaki was one of the areas occupied by the Sakas. The original settlement dates back to the late Bronze Age.
Shaki was one of the biggest cities of the Albanian states in the 1st century. The main temple of the ancient Albanians was located there. The kingdom of Shaki was divided into 11 administrative provinces. Shaki had been one of the important political and economic cities before the Arab invasion. But as a result of the invasion, Shaki was annexed to the third emirate. An independent principality was established in tames of a weakened Arabian caliphate. She was also managed by Georgian Kingdom, Atabegs of Azerbaijan and Khwarezmid Empire before Mongol invasion. After the collapse of the Hulakis in the first half of the 14th century, Shaki gained independence immediately after the states of Shirvanshahs and the Orlat dynasty came into power. Shah Tahmasp put an end to the independence of Shaki in 1551 and annexed it to Safavid Iran except Ottoman administration between 1578-1603 and 1724-1735. Then the Shaki khanate was established in 1743, and was one of the strongest feudal states among the Caucasian khanates.

Caravanserai in Shaki
As a result of the flood in the river Kish, the city of Shaki was partially ruined and the population was resettled in the present day city. The Shaki khanate became a vassal of the Russian Empire in accordance with the second Kurekchay Treaty of 1805. The area was fully annexed by Russia by the Treaty of Gulistan in 1813 and the khanate was abolished in 1819 and in its place the Shaki province was established.
During its history, the town was devastated many times and because of that, the oldest historic and architectural monuments currently preserved are dated to only the 16th-19th centuries. For many centuries, Shaki has been famous as the basic center of silkworm-breeding. Originally located on the left bank of the river Kish, the town sited lower down the hill, however Shaki was moved to its present location after a devastating flood in 1772 and became the capital of Shaki Khanate. As the new location was near the village of Nukha, the city became also known as Nukha, until 1960 when it reverted back to the name Shaki.
Shaki is famous for the 18th century Khan's palace and caravanserai. (wikipedia)

Russia Deploys New Weapons in Black Sea in Response to NATO Plans.
The military is planning to test the fresh forces, infrastructure and weapons deployed to the regions bordering the Black Sea in the headquarters exercise Caucasus-2016, scheduled for September, the sources told Novaya Gazeta daily. The exercise will include joint use of various forces in the Caucasus Mountains and on the Black Sea, they added, RT reported.
The plans to reinforce Russia’s southwestern borders must be tied with NATO’s plans to boost its military presence in the region, as well as with its constant effort aimed at increasing the combat abilities of the Ukrainian Army, the newspaper suggested after receiving the sources’ information.
Novaya Gazeta’s military expert, Navy Captain Oleg Shvedkov said that despite the fact that combined strength of NATO forces and their allies will be more than the one of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, deploying more aircraft and missiles to the region would successfully negate the new threat.
Chief spokesman of the Black Sea Fleet, Captain Vyacheslav Trukhachov, told reporters that over 15 new Russian combat ships arrived to the Black Sea in 2015 alone. Of these, two missile carriers and two submarines are equipped with the most modern cruise missiles Kalibr-NK with the effective range of up to 3,000km that have recently proved their effectiveness in strikes on terrorists’ positions in Syria.
The press service of Russia’s Southern Military District added that the units deployed in the Northern Caucasus and Rostov Region are equipped with combat aircraft capable of controlling the whole territory of the Black Sea. In addition, the district possesses two brigades of Iskander-M ballistic missiles that have effective range of 500km and can penetrate any of the existing missile defense systems, the press service added.
In August 2015, Ukraine hosted a military exercise in the Black Sea with NATO forces, involving 2,500 troops and some 150 military vehicles, from warships and helicopters to armored cars. Back then, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement criticizing the war games and the US military presence on Ukrainian territory as a violation of the Minsk Accords – the treaty and roadmap aimed at peaceful settlement of the conflict in Donbass in the east, FNA reported.

Russian Airborne Troops
With the demise of the Soviet Union, the number of VDV divisions has shrunk from seven to four, as well as one brigade and the brigade-sized training centre:
7th Guards Air Assault (Mountain) Division in Novorossiysk
76th Guards Air Assault Division in Pskov
98th Guards Airborne Division in Ivanovo
106th Guards Airborne Division in Tula
31st Guards Airborne Brigade in Ulyanovsk
242nd Training Centre of the VDV in Omsk
45th Detached Reconnaissance Regiment in Kubinka
1182nd Guards Artillery Regiment
38th Signal Regiment
Russian Airborne Troops on exercise in Kazakhstan.
The 11th Air Assault Brigade in the Central Military District (former Siberian Military District) and the 56th Air Assault Regiment in the Southern Military District (former North Caucasus Military District) are partially infantry formations reporting directly to the military districts they are stationed in. The VDV's training institute is the Ryazan Institute for the Airborne Troops named for General of the Army V.F. Margelov. In addition, in the mid-late 1990s, the former 345th Independent Guards Airborne Regiment was stationed in Gudauta, Abkhazia AR, Georgia. It later became the 10th Independent Peacekeeping Airborne Regiment. The unit was further designated the 50th Military Base.
In the early 1990s, General Pavel Grachev, the first Russian Defence Minister, planned for the VDV to form the core of the planned Mobile Forces. This was announced in Krasnaya Zvezda ('Red Star,') the Ministry of Defence's daily newspaper, in July 1992. However, the Mobile Forces plan never eventuated. The number of formations available for the force was far less than anticipated, since much of the Airborne Forces had been 'nationalised' by the republics their units had been previously based in, and other arms of service, such as the GRU and Military Transport Aviation, who were to provide the airlift component, were adamantly opposed to ceding control of their forces.
From 1996 the VDV dispatched the 1st Separate Airborne Brigade to Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of IFOR's Multi-National Division North. The brigade, unusually, used Ground Forces equipment such as BTR-80s.
After an experimental period, the 104th Parachute Regiment of 76th Airborne Division became the first Russian ground forces regiment that was fully composed of professional soldiers (and not of srochniki -- the conscripted soldiers aged eighteen). It was announced that the 98th Airborne Division is also earmarked for contract manning, and by September 2006, it was confirmed that 95% of the units of the 98th Division had shifted to contract manning.
